  1. My doc does the same. 10 days of a low carb, high protein diet. No more than 1100 calories as well.
  2. Hi! I am unable to reply to any posts using the App. I've un-installed and reinstalled twice and that didn't help at all. I checked and I believe I have the most updated version too. Here is the error I receive when I hit to submit the reply: Error The remote server sent an unknown response. This could be a result of the forum software plugin being outdated or having a conflict. thank you in advance for your help!
  3. I've been reading a lot about the cleaner eating (i.e. no processed foods) and it's very intriguing to me. I know a lot of the advice from our NUT say to use sugar free this, low fat that, etc which is not in line with clean eating at all. So, I'm just curious, is anyone doing clean eating? How is it working for your overall health and well-being? And of course, do you feel it's helped your weight loss? Thanks!!
  4. You're right. It was just funny to me that I'm reading over my pre-op diet and it has all of these sugar free items as "free" so you can eat them as much as you want. I'd really like to move to no processed foods, the reading I'm doing is downright frightening but makes SO much sense.
  5. LMAO how funny! I won't lie, while watching surgery videos on YouTube, I've thought to myself "why don't they just suck some of that fat out while they are in there???"

    Inter-Dry!

OK, I hadn't seen this when I read your post originally. That lovely ad greeted me when I logged in today though. YIKES!!! Of course, I clicked the banner and was greeted by more pictures. If you have it, you know what it looks like...you don't need to see pictures of it.
  7. I'm having surgery the same day as well and I have been struggling a bit. But you know what has smacked me back into reality and following the plan? Many have to do a pre-op diet WAY worse than me (liquids only, much longer, etc)...so I need to suck it up and do this pre-op diet. Period. I'm curious, did you have any type of program to follow prior to surgery? (Meetings with the surgeon, nutritionist visit, health psychiatrist, etc?)
  8. Wow, your transformation is awesome!
  9. GREAT JOB!!! I thought I was tall (5'9 1/2") but I've been measuring at 5'8". I've set a goal of 180 but when I hit wonderland I am going to dance a friggin JIG! :-) I can totally see changes in your pictures. Keep up the great work.
  10. Yep, my pre-op diet is only 10 days. I'm very lucky.

"you Have To Reexamine Your Relationship With Food"

Great post. The Psych I saw about knocked me out of my chair during our session. He said "food shouldn't make you happy. Food should simply be the fuel to let you go and DO things that make you happy." I seriously almost got up and left. What do you mean food shouldn't make me happy?? I bust out a little dance when something is especially good. LOL But since then I have really given the things he said some real thought and tried to put them into practice. I can enjoy food without being so emotionally connected to it. The switch hasn't been completely flipped at this point, but I'm working on it.

    Surgery Date

I think everyone gets nervous/scared. I sure am! Good luck to you, it'll be here before you know it!
  13. Hey there! I'm 9/5 if you'd like another buddy. I start my preop Sunday.
  14. Hi guys, So, I'm thinking I want to go ahead and get a therapist lined up for after the surgery just to have someone to help me sort through my feelings. I notoriously bottle things up and it's just not healthy. I'm just wondering, should it be a "normal" therapist (meaning just general therapy) or should I try to look for someone who specializes in food and/or coping issues. If you started therapy post-op, which worked for you? Thanks!

    Post Op Therapist

I have a therapist in mind, she treated my daughter a couple of years ago and we did a couple of joint sessions and one session with just me (where I bawled for a whole damn hour). I feel comfortable with her but at the time she wasn't willing to do couple's counseling with me and my husband because it was a conflict of interest. Not sure if that would still be the case. She'd be great because she has evening hours and is 10 minutes from my home. I thought about the doctor that's part of the program (I can't remember if he's a psychiatrist or a psychologist) but he books 4-6 weeks out at a time and isn't terribly convenient. I liked meeting with him though - remarkably I didn't shed a tear.

    Where Is Incision?

Unfortunately, all surgeons aren't identical. The illustration I have from my surgeon doesn't look like the one pictured.

    Sleep Study Hell!

I'm sorry you're having such a tough time with it. If you aren't able to relax and get at least some rest, I think they study will be pretty useless to the doctors. The sleep studies are for our own safety. If you do have sleep apnea and it's not treated, you could have problems coming out of anesthesia and during recovery. I think you should communicate your concerns to your doctor/surgeon so you can possibly get anti-anxiety meds prior to your next sleep study. I'm sure you aren't the first patient to have that reaction (or worse!). I know that for my surgeon, if I had refused the sleep study OR if after I was diagnosed with a very mild case of sleep apnea I had declined the CPAP, the surgery would have been off the table. He absolutely will not take the risk. They are even going to check the card from the machine when I get to the hospital to make sure I've been using it. It sucks BIG TIME, but like you, I refuse to stay unhealthy any longer. I'm sucking it up and jumping though whatever hoop they put in front of me. LOL

How Long Are You In Surgery?

See, this is so strange to me. My paperwork says surgery is 3-5 hours. Everything I've read and seen though says less than 2 hours. I wonder if 3-5 hours includes prep and the short stay in the post surgery room before you're moved to your room. I need to ask about that.

    Fitbit

So with the FitBit, does it record the calories burned during normal exercise (i.e. not walking or running)? Or will I need to keep using my heart rate monitor and chest strap?
  20. Sorry, my phone died. But, I went to the app settings and I don't see a version number at all. When I open the app, it shows 1.3.9 in the lower right corner. Is that it?
  21. Thank you! I even have the problem on my Android tablet.
  22. I completely understand. I was traveling for work, on my way back home. I had been furiously checking the seat assignments and someone was placed in the middle seat at the last minute. When I sat down, the woman next to me acted as if I had the plague. She huffed and puffed and made me feel completely uncomfortable. On the verge of tears, I went up to the flight attendant, explained what happened, and pleaded for her to change my seat. Thankfully, she was sympathetic and changed my seat. As I got off the plane, I couldn't help but hug her and say thank you for being compassionate.
