  1. Remember we have alot more regulation in the US and ways of seeing how many deaths have happened with certain procedures - I don't believe there is that oversight in Mexico and many other countries. I don't know if I can believe your statement - maybe there are more REPORTED deaths in the US but how many happen in Mexico that are not documented by any authority? We only hear by rumor.
  2. Ok just found a study that suggests some regain after 5 years. This is a 2011 report. They are saying 43% failure after 5 years. They do suggest looking at similar numbers for other procedures - wonder what the rate is for RNY? http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/matrix/bt_supp0511/index.php?startid=3#/8

I thought this article was good - see the last paragraph about size http://bariatrictimes.com/2010/02/18/the-history-of-sleeve-gastrectomy/
  4. Thanks - I have dug around and wasn't able to find anything either - I just wonder if this Dr is stuck on RNY although he said he has Labband patients as well - really frustrated when I hear they negativity from a Dr.

  8. Jens, My insurance is the same - 6 visits in 6 calendar months so really 5 months. I went to the orientation 1/7 and sure wish I had visited my Dr that month instead of waiting til February! Wishes, No date yet, just hoping for the second week in July!
  9. My program allows us to switch to the petites after a month - I agree the chewables are nasty.

Mine is using a 40 and he is calling it the middle size. I had thought the range was 32-40 so that surprised me.
  11. I have been taking prenatal (other Vitamins make me sick) for my pre-op and no problem, my nutritionist said take what you normally do pre-op then after I have to use Bariatric Advantage

    Anyone Else in August?

Well ladies, August is just a few weeks away and I notice all the other months have cute names - May is Red Velvet Gang, Jewels of June, July FIrecrackers.,...what should we be??? August Angels? Sorry no creativity! Anyone have any ideas???
  13. I too am at the end of all the hoops, have my last of the 6 month visits with my doctor on Monday then will be submitted to insurance that day hopefully! Hoping for a sleeve date mid August....
  14. My goal is a size 10 - that also will keep me very slightly above my normal BMI but I have been there before and liked who I was and how I looked. So what to BMI!
  15. My Dr said 4-6 weeks and when I asked this question alot of people said 3 weeks was when they started feeling really well. I work from home and have a very flexible schedule but still planning 3 weeks at least - FMLA since I don't have that much paid time.

    What scale do you use???

Same with my Tanita's - consistently 1 lb heavier than at weight watchers.
  18. beautiful!! we need to see a before picture if you thought you were at 14 now!!
  19. My insurance specifies that they use the BMI from the start to qualify for surgery.
  20. If so, I am interested in how you did it, any information you used to persuade them, etc.

    Pre-Op Weightloss

I have to do a 6 month medically supervised diet for my insurance and that is currently how I am losing. I understand alot of people lose 15-20 in the actual pre-op diet - mine will be 2 weeks of 4 shakes a day, non carb veggies and 6 carbs a day (like cream of wheat, V8, sf pudding, no sugar added applesauce and fruit flavored yogurt - no fruit).

    What scale do you use???

tanita brand, this is what WW uses at their meetings. I had best luck finding online. I own 2 for about 8 years now.

    Anyone Else in August?

Seems like so few of us in August so far!! Wonder where everyone is??? Hoping for the second week of August here...
  24. I have my last of the 6 months MSWL visit on July 11th and then submitted to insurance!! I have a nutrition class (going over the pre-op diet) that same day and am planning to stop in to the program office and check to make sure they are all set to submit me!! I am hoping for surgery the second week of August, As far as losing too much in your MSWL time, my insurance's (BCBSIL) medical policy states: NOTE: The initial BMI at the beginning of a weight reduction program will be used to meet the BMI criteria for the definition of morbid obesity used in this policy.
