  1. Just walk. Get a pedometer and see how many steps you take on a regular day. Then keep increasing. Then increase the speed (if possible) Eventually you should join a gym and work out other muscles (arms abs etc) I have a treadmill and walk briskly for an hour and try to sprinkle a few mins of running. Hopefully I will increase my running time. Get some good music that makes you wanna groove!
  2. GREAT POST!! I'm getting my band on friday and will be reffering to this post when times get tough. A little reminder of the rules will do me good. Can we be friends lol
  3. Your post makes me extremely nervous. WHY are you still so hungry 6 months later?????
  4. No, your certainly not the only one. With me its SO weird! I honestly have no clue if i'm cheating or not because my doc was SO VAGUE! And now i think he's on vacation so I doubt i'll even be able to confirm with him This morning I had part of a protein shake Omlet with cheese (this was his recommendation) and some watermelon I honestly am so confused
  5. So so glad tohear that! I was begining to think I was the only one NOT doing liquid diets before surgery. With your diet, are you allowed to eat cheeses/meats? I'm just confused bc my doc said "atkins" and I know that atkins includes everything besides carbs. However does it make sense that I'm allowed fatty foods!?
  6. I'm in a similar boat. My diet is just lots of protein and low cards (atkins style) and I've REALLY been struggling. I'm terrified but my surg isn't till Friday so I will just drink protein shakes till then and cross my fingers. #sososcared
  7. Oooh Stacie what happened?? Are you in pain?
  8. @ajbo33 Me too! Much luck to you
  9. Personally, I did not tell anyone besides my sisters and mother. And I don't plan to tell anyone else. As someone else said, they will be always curios and asking questions (obviously no one tries to be rude but I cannot stand the badgering). Maybe they'll be negative and try to talk you out, and that would be very hard for you. Furthermore, it's very possible that it will take a few months to lose weight/get properly adjused and 99% of ppl don't realize this. Do you really want them writing you off as a "failure" when the pounds don't magically melt off? It's just not worth it in my opinion. As for the liquids, you can just say you have a bad flu or a stomach virus and the doc recommends liquids for a few days to hydrate you. I know you probably won't like lying, but maybe you can say you got your appendix removed or something?
  10. Thanks guys, I'm pretty good on the ski so I'm not worried about falling out, and i wear a life jacket so i'm guessing my incisions won't get too wet but i'm still gonna wait at least two weeks Thanks everyone
  11. see your doc and get a fill Plan meals in advance (protein filled so you'll actually be full) so that when your grandkids ask you to dig in you will be able to control yourself better I know your in a lot of pain and plantar fascitis sucks big time, but what about weight lifting, even just lifting 2-4 pound weights while watching tv? There are exercises that do not involve legs that will be beneficial to you
  12. plication=folding, so in this context the surgeon literally "folds" your stomach (using stitches) reducing it's volume
  13. wow u lost 51 pounds with no restriction??!! Thats amazing
  14. I'm assuming that with this chart we're only supposed to be eating one row for breakfast, right? (otherwise that seems like quite a lot...)
  15. Now i'm even more annoyed that my doc won't do plication for me I kept asking him about it but he said no. Also, my insurance won't cover it (Wellmark) Seems i'm reading more and more about the miracles of plication and i'm bummed that its not in the cards for me
  16. Hello Personally I would NEVER tell someone just because I don't want them to be pissed that I'm not eating chinese food at their party. This is a medical issue and a lifechanging operation that you should keep to yourself if you so choose. If your already so sure she's gonna spill your secret then is she really such a good friend? Tell her your really not feeling well and your sorry but your too sick to eat chinese or drink alcohol. If she's not mature enough to be understanding of your pain/health/feelings then she's probably not mature enough to be going to university Just my two cents Good luck with whatever u choose !
  17. don't let her get to you she's obviously threatened by you. Rise above it by being kind to her and ignoring her insults/jabs. Your kindness will drive her MAD lol!!
  18. my preop diet seems like a walk in the park compared to the 2 week liquid diets everyone talks about My doc just said i should be on atkins for 2 weeks before surgery, does that make sense? (is it possible he made a mistake? or that i misunderstood his orders?!)
  19. Wow I'm so glad I stumbled into this thread. I have been debating telling anyone about this decision. Truthfully, most people I know do not understand WLS surgery. They do not understand that it's JUST A TOOL. They think it's magic, and i'm scared that when I don't lose weight fast they will look at me as a complete failure. I understand the work that comes with losing weight with the band. I understand that the weight comes off (sometimes painfully) slowly. I understand that it's not a miracle cure for obesity. My friends/family unfortunately do not understand. Case in point: My mom went with me to my final doc appointment before surgery and he explained that in the beginning i probably won't lose much weight until i heal and am properly adjusted. As we left the office my mom whispered "he's just trying to downplay the weight loss. I know you're gonna lose 50 lbs before october" WTF!!! My dad is the same way. He keeps saying I will loose 100 lbs in 8 months. These people are dreaming. For this reason I know that no matter what I accomplish I will look like a failure in their eyes because i'm (fairly) certain that I will never live up to their expectations. That's why the less people that know the better. I can't be a failure to my friends too yes it's very sad that I won't be getting proper support from my parents but I guess i'll just have to be strong and never feel like a complete failure
  20. getting banded in a week from Friday!! whooohooooo!!
  21. lookin good! keep up the great work
  22. Wondering the same thing! My doc is also over an hour away and I wonder how many times/how often I will need to go I guess it varies so there's no hard answer ??
  23. My doc seems wayyy too chilled, so I would love to get opinions from people who have actually had surgery and can tell me how long it took for them to be able to get active/go into the Water Thanks everyone! BTW, surgery is scheduled for 8/17! can't wait! Oh, and BTW, how to I edit my ticker to reflect a 2 lb weight loss? I keep pressing the "edit" button but it prompts me to make a whole new one THANKS!
  24. When you get that full feeling after a few bites, is it very difficult being at a table full of food and surrounded by people eating tons? That's basically my problem, when i'm at a table full of awesome food i overeat
