  1. I hadn't even thought about the 10k version! Great idea! I'll check it out for sure. I was at an all day meeting today and after driving 2hrs to get home the first thing I wanted to do was go for a short run! It was good to get outside for a change too. This was my first run outside in the evening and it was really nice.

    ideal body type

Superhero... Wolverine. That man is so ridiculously proportionately beautiful- it's almost strange. Maybe he's an alien... Magic Mike... Joe M (however that Italian last name is spelled) who is also on Trueblood. He's the whole reason I saw that movie, which was really kind-of depressing imo! However, I'll watch Trueblood reruns just to get glimpses of dear Joe! That said, my last major real life crush was on a bald Korean guy who is far more Buddha than Boy Toy. It's all about the personality and brain! Most of the time the really hot guys just shouldn't talk. They should just sit there and look pretty because talking usually ruins it! I'm sure there are hot guys who are smart, funny and nice... this is all very tongue in cheek, so no haters...
  3. I discovered I really need the extra push I get from following a program so I put myself back on week 5 and have upped my speed (treadmill) to 5mph. I'd been doing 4.5-4.7 before. I have a crazy few weeks coming up - events every weekend with a 4-day Disneyland trip with my 4yr old in early May... but I NEED to find time to exercise because I get so down when I slack off!
  4. Oohhh fancy! There are so many options and gizmos out there. I'd like to have a heart-rate monitor because I think that would give me some very useful feedback. I'd like to have something that tracked distance/speed for outdoor jogging in a watch format that I could easily look at while still in motion. I'm also fairly frugal and the though of spending several hundred dollars sort-of hurts. I picked up a Beginners Running publication at Costco recently and they had some decent comparison info so I'll probably hunt around a bit more before deciding what to go with. I'm a July baby so maybe something for "happy birthday to me". We call that a "Dear Bertie" in our family!
  5. I did W8D3 yesterday so I guess I'm officially a c25k graduate! The next day is "run 5k". Yikes! That said, I still have a way to go to actually run 5k at a time. I upped my treadmill speed to 4.8mph and I need to keep it up. I've slacked off on walking in between run days and I need to get back on that bandwagon. Keep up the good work all!
  6. fitbit has a new bracelet version coming out. is it called flex? I might look into that after it comes out and people start to use it. let the first generation bugs get worked out! I wonder if it will have gps? I do have mapmyrun for outside. I've only had the opportunity to use it once so far. I don't hold my phone in my hand when I run, so I can't see my progress like I can in glancing down at my treadmill. That's what makes me wonder between something like fitbit and a runner's watch. The visual aid I get from my treadmill keeps me going and not having that visual outside lets me wimp out quicker! Decisions, decisions... and more research to do!

    Can't lose weight with exercise?

This is so true. I've taken up jogging in the last two months and got a quick drop of 5lbs but haven't done much more. Now the scale bounces between 173 & 175. Really, I should be more like 155-160 if I want to get to goal weight... brutal!

    So...I joined a gym

Good for you! My mom and her husband joined a local gym and if they stick with it I may do it for myself and my son. It's close to my home and they have a pool - two things in its favor! It's great that you're going with your husband. Having someone to share the fun with is always a good way to keep on track.
  9. W8, D2, done! I had a quick break to get something for my son but I added an extra minute at the end to make up for it do I jogged a total of 29 minutes. I even ran at 4.8mph for most of it but slowed down to 4.5 for the last few minutes. I can't believe I'm still doing this! I can't believe just a few weeks ago the thought of running five minutes or eight minutes seemed totally impossible... What a crazy journey. I need to make some time specific playlists for runs. Right now I have a single running playlist that I shuffle, but I think it would help me to have a few lists that I knew had a specific period of warm up, then run and then cool down. When I run outside, I really miss the treadmill display that tells me how far I've run and for what period of time. Maybe one of those running watches would help me with that? Happy running all!
  10. I found a new love for split pea soup at that stage! I really needed to thin down refried beans if I ate them. Out of the can they were way too thick. Greek yogurt is good just watch for sugar. Stick to sugar free plain if you can.
  11. Welcome back! You'll do great - just do everything they tell you!
  12. Congratulations! You look fantastic and so happy! Keep up the great work!
  13. Fiddleman, it's not flu! There's no way I'd try to push through that... it's more like a cold trying to come on. I haven't had any fever at all and had a little hint of a sore throat that's gone away. I actually think the running (in general) has given me a boost in fighting whatever this is my son has that hasn't hit me yet (knock on wood). I actually feel pretty good today! =) I think my son is at the end of it too!

    on top enjoying the view

Beautiful views! I don't think I could deal with snow day to day. I'm a total wimp! The first time I had to shovel my way out of my house, I'd be flying south with the birds!
  15. Week 8, day 1, done! My son has been sick close to a week and I've felt like I've been fighting something too. But today was day three of staying home from work with him and we were both going stir crazy, so I figured I'd hit the treadmill. I didn't think I'd make it and in fact I did have a break when my son wanted a drink, but I did manage to run all 28 minutes. The minutes kept ticking down and I kept pushing myself to make one little goal after the next and I pulled it off. Not pretty, but I'll take it. I'm running at 4.7 mph inside. There is a 5k in June down in OC I might do with friends. We'll see. I'm not running as far as I'm supposed to since I'm so slow and that makes me worry about doing an actual race- not that I'd be racing! I'd be happy just to finish!
  16. My exercise schedule has been thrown by my poor sick son and I'm worried I'll get what he has. I repeated Week 7 day 2 on Monday night (I think it was Monday...) and I've just been taking care of my very unhappy boy since then. Not sure if I'll get out this weekend at all, but the monkey comes first!

    RIP livesaveremt

So sad to hear this. I hope his family and loved ones have many wonderful memories with him to help them through his passing. Rest in peace.

I just finished my second 5K in 26:52!

Great job! I'm thinking about signing up for my first 5k in late April and am terrified!

    OMG! OMG! OMG!

Congrats to you! My OMG moment was when I realized my son could reach his arms all the way around me. Best hug ever!

    loosing fat -confused

Start taking measurements! Just standard spots- chest, waist, upper arm, hip, butt, thigh and calf and making a weekly log. Even if you aren't seeing big numbers on the scale, you will in your measurements if you're swapping muscle and fat.

    Hot Yoga kicked my butt!

It always gives me a chuckle when people think yoga is easy- just stretching, right? you're awesome! Even when I was doing a little yoga and in ok shape I wouldn't have dreamed of trying hot yoga! That's killer! I'm totally impressed!
  22. Got outside and ran today. I used mapmyrun and found a great 5k route to work on but my run was pretty weak. I'm sure I got in 25+ minutes of running, but not all at once. I took a couple of nice walk breaks but at least I got my fanny out there, right? I really need to find sources of potassium. I had three bags put in my post-op and I never get close to what myfitnesspal indicated I need of a daily basis. I just blended a banana into my protein shake for lunch and should try to get a coconut water in me daily, but what else? I can't stomach V8.

    Daily caloric intake

I do drink almost entirely decaf coffee. I rarely go for leaded but I do drink leaded iced tea and when it starts to warm up, I drink lots of it. I tried to be good for a long time and made my own decaf iced tea, but I love the Tejava because it's so convenient. Yes, I started to run. I made it up to 22 minutes outside and 26.5 minutes on the treadmill. Working up to a 5k. Its true, I don't pay much attention to fat content and I should start really watching if I want to get further than I am!

    Daily caloric intake

I wish I had your discipline! I started running recently and I'm hungry! Maybe I'll skip the ff h & h for a week and see what happens. I don't buy coffee out much, preferring coffee I make myself, but I can easily do 5 cups in a day when it's colder. I fon't like the fat free h & h because it's too sweet. I have switched to some lower fat cheese recently though.
