  8. I kinda thought the same thing at first, so I found someone on this board that was from my area and contacted them directly. She had gone to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and really helped be believe that it was real! I finally called and talked to Nina at Dr. Aceves office and it made all the difference for me! I am almost 7 week out and doing great! I would not trade my trip to Mexico for anything! It was great! Hope your wife can learn to support you.
  9. I had surgery on Nov 29th with Dr. Aceves, my mom went with me and stayed in the room. I couldn't imagine her not staying with me. They have a nice cafeteria where she ate everyday. It really worked out perfect because she was there to help do whatever. We went walking the halls and outside a few times, it was a little cold when I was there. It was a great experience. I am almost 7 weeks out and I am down 46 pounds since the day of surgery, no complications. I have followed Dr. Aceves' post op instructions to the letter! Good Luck! You will do great!
  10. Count me in! Weight today is 284. Would love to loose 54 by April 13! We can do this!!!!
  11. I was sleeved on 11/29 and I just started eating mushies yesterday. So for the past two weeks I have had a Protein shake for breakfst, some soup for lunch, protein shake for and afternoon snack and maybe some soup for dinner (if I felt I could hold it). And lots of Water, maybe some Propel Zero. Yesterday I had my first egg and couldn't eat the whole thing. Last night I had some Pintos and cheese from Taco Bell, it was really good, I only ate maybe 1/3 of it. I think I am afraid to eat to much!
  12. I was there on Nov. 29, 2011. My cell phone worked great, no international charges. My mom went with me and hers worked good too. Dr. Aceves will call someone after surgery for you. The hospital is the cleanest I have ever been in, and it is literally one block from the border. You can see the fence from the hospital. You will do great, Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos check on you about 3 or 4 times a day along with other docs. The nurses are great, they don't speak much english, but they will try their best to figure out what you are asking. You will be in great hands! Good Luck!
  13. You are doing great! you should be very proud of yourself! Congrats!
  14. I went to Dr. Aceves on Nov. 29, 2011 in Mexicali. Everything was wonderful! Can't say enough good about him, Dr. Campos and their team!
  15. Well it has officially been one week since my sleve surgery! I have been so lucky with the ease of this whole process. Dr. Aceves and his team were wonderful. I had no gas pain and very little pain at my incisions. The worst part so far was trying to choke down the nasty blue stuff for the leak test! I am still on Clear liquids for a few more days. I am doing my best to get all the liquids and Protein in, it seems to get easier every day. I have been very lucky! The best news is that as of this morning I have lost 21 pounds since surgery! I could not believe my eyes! I am so so so glad to finally be on that damn loser's bench!

  17. I just left there this morning. It is wonderful! Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos are great! The hospital is on block from Tue border and you can see the fence from the front door of the hospital. I would definitely recommend them to anyone! They seem to genuinely care about you and your success. @Serephina - hope you are doing well. I think I saw you when you checked in yesterday morning. My room was right by the nurses station.
  18. Everything went great! Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes! Surgery was yesterday at 9am and I slept most of the day and night. I did get up once and walk to the endot the hall and got very nauseated. After I sat back down I was fine. Today was good except for drinking the nasty blue stuff! It was not good at all, but no leaks!!! Yippee!!! I walked outside today and it was so nice, the weather is perfect! I also got to shower today, so I feel like a new woman. Now I am sipping on Camomille tea and Vitamin Water. So far, so good!
  19. Well, it is finally my turn! I have been watching all you father's go before me, so ecxitingly, and now I am finally up to bat! I had been doing a ton of research, since February, when I learned my insurance wouldn't pay for the sleeve. So, here I am in Mexicali, Mexico getting ready to head to the hospital in about 6 hours. Everything has gone exactly as I was told so far. Ernesto pickup me (& my mom) up in San Diego and brought us straight to the hospital. Once wewalked in things started moving fast. I'm from Tennessee, we don't tend to realty move that fast, we're a little laid back. I had blood drawn, peed in a cup, EKG, and chest xrays before I could sit down! Everyone has been super sweet and fun. Then I got to meet with Dr. Campos. He was great, very thorough in his explanations ( and pretty easy on the eyes too!) After all my questions, Ernesto brought us to the hotel and we ate like queens! With the 3 hour time difference and the early flight yesterday We were sound asleep at 6:30. Now I am wide awake! I am so excited to begin this new chapter in my life. I have a similar story to some, always a little chubby as q kid, nothing major. Then college, marriage, a baby, an emotionally stressful job, and the next thing I know I weigh 325. Well that stops tomorrow!!! (actually today) I'm ready to feel good again and have some energy! I am ready!! Send some good thoughts and positive energy my way, prayers work too! Thanks to all you who put your stories on here, You helped me find a way! Love VST!!! I will post as soon as I can!
