  1. Congrats to all of you that are about to be banded. Best thing I have ever done for myself. I have lost 44 pounds since 9-1-11 and my huband about the same and my son like 12 pounds but I was the only one banded. But if Mom eats different the whole house pretty much does because I do the cooking and shopping. Nobody is complaining though. As far as the pre op diet goes it does not get easier but you have to keep your eye on the prize. It is worth it I promise.

  2. I am from a small town called Manchester (Home of Bonnaroo) about an hour and 15 min from Nashville. My Dr. is in Nashville and I had my surgery in Nashville. I don't have any support groups around here so this website and my sister who had the surgery back in March are my support system. Had to join when I saw Nashville.

  3. I was the same way the first two weeks after surgery then I could eat anything and alot. I had to push the food away even though I could have kept going. That is what you tell your Dr. because I was losing weight still but it was more my will power than feeling full and satisfied and your Dr. doesn't want that. He or she wants you to feel full after a half to a cup of food. After 3 fills I am finally there. A cup or less is all I can do. So be very honest with your Dr. and you will get to the green zone I promise. I was thinking I wouldn't get there but here I am. Also it seemed everytime I got a fill that I thought it had worked but then like after surgery it kind of goes away. But just remember that one of the fills will work. Could be the first or fourth but you'll get there.

  4. [

    Had my second fill today!

    It went really well!

I just have a headache since i'm on liquids again for a day.

My weight loss has stalled, yet i am going to the gym every other day, or everyday with the weekends off.

    This weekend is tough!

I think i'm catching a cold, plus with pms, i'm not in the finest condition! bah! rolleyes.gif

Well this day is almost over, and tomorrow with begin fresh!

I feel you I am sick and the red tide has rolled in. Really?? fellow banders.....

I am having a strange problem....

Some meals I eat and have absolutely no problem. Then, out of the blue, the next day I may nearly throw up after just a few bites. I'm chewing well and following the rules. Is anyone else having a problem like this? I am not understanding why some meals I can eat and others not.

  5. I only ate one piece of turkey and a scoop of stuffing. If I didn't need the Protein I would have skipped the turkey and just had my scoop of stuffing. Turkey tastes too much like chicken and I get that all the time. The stuffing was awesome though!!! Just amazing to me what I ate in the past compared to yesterday. But didn't feel deprived because I went away from the table full. My husband was on his second plate and I hadn't even finished my little plate. Feels good.

  6. Feeling restriction basically means you can feel how full you get quicker. It takes way more time to eat because if you don't you will get that stuck feeling. It basically means that you can not eat as much.

I'm a month post-op. I have never felt my band. I can feel the port. I sorta like being able to feel it. Sometimes I rub it for luck before sitting down for dinner or getting on the scale. LOL!

I understand what happens when you get stuck but what exactly does feeling restricted feel like? Like your full? bloated?

  7. Congrats on the surgery. I didn't suffer from gas pains so I guess I am one of the lucky ones. It is worth every bit of the pain trust me. I just had my 3rd fill and am now finally in my green zone. Be patient because it takes some time for some us to get there. Even though I just hit my green zone I have still lost 38 lbs since my surg. on 9-1-11. Good luck.

  8. The band is a tool. You still have to make a lifestyle change. Excercise and eating right. Most people would say that if you do those two things you should lose the weight which sounds good but until I got my band I could eat too much of the good things. So it is just a helper not the whole solution to the problem. You have to be committed to a change or it won't work for you. I was banded on 9-1-11 and have lost 38 lbs. Hope this helps. Good luck whatever you decide.

  9. I didn't tell anyone but family and my boss before the surgery because I also didn't want any negative comments. I knew I wanted to do the surgery so what anyone had to say would just make me mad. After I had the surgery I would slowly tell people that I liked about it and if they told anyone else it was fine. You are right this is not an easy way out at all. It still takes work and willpower but it does help alot. Good luck to you with whatever you decide to do.

  10. Where do you get these and how much??? Is it whey isolate Protein?

I've become addicted to Isopure Zero Carb bottles, 40 grams of protein per 20 oz bottle, no carbs, no sugars, no fats, only 160 caloies. They are fruity and light, not shake like at all!! They are clear too so they are good for the "clears only" parts of the pre and post op phases. Check your local fitness retailer for them, they usually have them in singles. Isopure also sells the Zero Carb fruity flavors in bulk powder form as well. Same idea, light fruity drinks rather than shakes. It might not have been the amount of protein you were ingesting but the shake itself being too thick or milky for your body.

  11. That is awful about your exes family. Sometimes I just hate people. How much is this fitbit thing. I would like to check it out. How much weight have you lost?? I was banded on 9-1-11 and have lost 35 lbs. Not sure if that is good or not but I am happy with it. I think it's a good idea getting the fill before Thanksgiving though I have never over done it on that day. We make a very simple dinner. I hope it goes well with the exes family. They seem like they need a slap upside there heads.;)

I am getting a fill 2 days before Thanksgiving, but I have to admit I knew what I was doing. I was hoping that would help keep me under control!! I'm headed to my folks "up north" (north west Wisconsin), and will be there for a week and a half for vacation. Thank heavens my mother supports me! My dad supports me too, but if I told him I wanted a piece of pecan pie, he'd give it to me. My mother will at least try to discourage me.

I do have a fitbit, and I can not tell you enough how much I love love love it. I don't have anyone to go to the gym with either, but it totally keeps me accountable. It sets goals of 10,000 steps per day, 5 miles per day, 10 flights of stairs per day, tells you how many calories you've burned through activity, and compares that to the food you log. I log every bite of food I eat, and there is one thing I never let happen - and that is eating more than I burn in a day. I hit the treadmill in the basement, walk up and down stairs, pace around the house, or pull out one of my Wii games - anything to get my calories burned above what I've eaten. Most of the time, I'm stubborn enough to do all of the above just to hit the goals it sets for me, and my calorie burn is 1500 to 2500 more than I consume. Weight loss has been good since I got it, but I haven't weighed myself in a week and a half, because I had a bad weekend and I'm afraid. For me, it is worth every penny. Side note though, there is a fitbit and a fitbit ultra. Get the Ultra, because it tracks flights of stairs, the original does not. Both are the same price, so it's crazy not to get the one that tracks stairs.

On a personal note, I will be going to a funeral for my former mother-in-law on Friday, and I've got so much anxiety over this, that I'm making myself sick. I would normally turn to food, so this is a real test for me to stay on track. I've stayed on pretty good terms with my ex, but his parents and sister burned all ties with me, because we had no kids. He said he's only inviting 3 people, and it's really important to him to have me there, and doesn't care about how his father and sister feel about it. At family gatherings, they always made jokes about me having to go to Omar the tent maker to get clothes to fit, or some other joke about my size, and it always hurt me badly. And that's how they treated me before the divorce. God, please give me the strength to get through this with my head held high, and without turning to food. If only there was a way to loose 100lbs before Friday...

  12. Nothing wrong with chicken and almonds as long as they are chewed well. I ate alot of pistacios, tuna, chicken, lunch meat, Soups, all kinds of things. You will be fine.

I am newly banded and new to diabeties. I do not take insulin. My question to all of you is, What do you eat to bring your sugar down that will also fit the band? Before the band I would have chicken and almonds but now I dont know. I have not had my first fill yet. I just want to be ready.

    Thanks

  13. I was banded on 9-1-11 and have lost 35 lbs. My sister had it done in March and has lost 70 lbs. It is still work but the band really helps with how much you can eat. We did a total turn around in the things we eat. My big treat is the small italian ice cup you buy at the grocery store. Before I would have eaten a ton of icecream. I am so glad I did it. The weight comes off slow but I would rather be losing slow than gaining. Good luck!

  14. I take one I got from a health food store, the brand is Pioneer they are vegetarian and gluten free. It is dark chocolate flavor (but just tastes like chocolate) I take 3 halves a day because that's all I need to get my required Calcium. However when I am done with these I will be taking Citracal petites. They are small and easy to swallow. My sister had the band and she takes these. I also bought opurity brand chewable Multivitamins and hate them as well. I will be looking for a better one when these are gone. I try to chew and swallow as fast as I can. Eeesh they are nasty.

  15. I didn't tell anybody but family that I was doing it. I have told people after I had it done and only got one negative comment from a guy who is a vegetarian and very thin. People are just stupid sometimes. You are doing this for you not them so just try to tune the negatives out. Good luck, your doing the right thing.

I have only told a few people about my pending WLS, and don't understand why people think I am crazy!! I keep hearing are you crazy' and "don't you know the risks"? My hubby is very supportive - but even my mother thinks I am crazy for considering WLS. I'm am having surgery-I am doing it for my health and to get my life back! Has anyone else experienced this reaction from friends?

  16. How hard was it for you to kick caffeine?? I thought I was gonna die. I really don't know how people kick street drugs. I had a week of headaches and some throwing up too. I'm glad I kicked it though. I self paid so I didn't have to jump through hoops either. When are you getting banded??

Not to brag, but I guess I got lucky all around. My insurance didn't require ANY required diet consulations, less the 1 single visit with a nutritionist. So far no pre-op diets (althought I have been reducing carbs, weaned off carbination and caffeine) I've been doing shakes for Breakfast, lunch, small salads, Protein puddings, LOTS of Water, walking and cutting back on my dinner portions, I've been trying to get into the no drinking before or after a "meal" habit, chewing until the food is as liquid as it can be, so it might not be a full on required pre-op shrinkage diet, but I'm sure it will help come time to poke and prod...
