    So How Honest Were You....

I told some family and a few friends. I have one friend who was negative, it felt so bad. I thought she would be supportive or I wouldn't have said anything! I do not try to convince anyone, not my job! She had been working out and losing weight so I thought it would be ok. I have far exceeded her weight loss, maybe it's her stuff, not me. I don't know but I do not want to feel that bad again. Be careful, this is such a personal journey, you need the best with you. There are still so many people who think we are getting a free ride, oh if they only new! we work hard for the lbs. we lose, this is a tool, not a miracle!

    Bad Day

900 calories is really a very small amount, why so low?? I do understand what you are saying, because I know better now. If I make some poor food choices but stay in line on myfitnesspal guidelines, I am happy to not over do fats, sugar or carbs but I am unhappy 'cause I want to eat healthier. I sometimes feel obsessed with food now, I hope it will be a temporary thing! I just want to get healthy!!! I do think it is healthy that you are starting to see the difference. I mean, "Before and after" eating style, we are not the same as we used to be! Thank God.....

Help, I Can't Win The Food Fight Mentallly.

I have always been interested in nutrition, just didn't always eat that way! I now love to try new foods. I eat very simply, don't usually cook lavish recipes. I just want to experience better food I used to stop every day for a cappuccino & a roll b4 work! EVERYDAY!!!! that was my breakfast, sometimes I would buy 2 rolls, unbelievable. I now love breakfast and try to make it count. I sometimes have eggs & turkey sausage or a souped up yogurt with a little granola and fresh fruit. I feel more awake and it holds me for several hours. I do splurge with dark chocolate, try to eat a small square or 2. I know that if I let go and buy the rolls I used to buy, soon I will be eating them instead of a healthy breakfast. I don't always have to give in to what I "think" I want!

Help, I Can't Win The Food Fight Mentallly.

Thanks 2MUCHFUN, I have sent this info to friends, great advise!
  5. how are you doing on losing inches?? that is so fun to experience too. Are you amping your exercise? Our bodies get used to whatever exercise we do, we need to add or do more. we love to walk the dogs, had a regular route we took all the time. I decided I was bored with it and ended up adding another 2 1/1 to 3 miles to the total walk! I didn't realize how much more I was doing??

What Is The Restaurant Scene Like?

The one thing I have really started to do all the time is give them very explicate information like "no added butter, or sauces, broil instead of fry, all dressing on the side, eliminate some items from a salad(bacon)". this never bothers them but, I then feel like I have taken care of myself. One time I ordered salmon at the nice restaurant and asked them not to put any butter on the salmon once it was cooked. when the food came to the table it had a clear sauce that really tasted good with it. I was sure it was butter or something else that I didn't want added so I put a piece of silverware under the plate so the sauce was not near my salmon. the waitress came over to tell me that the chef had made a special sauce by cooking down some fresh fruit juice! OMG, I immediately took the silverware away and ate it!!!! Most restaurants are happy to do most things you need done, so many people ask for special things! One time while watching Rocco DiSpirito on Dr. Oz, he mentioned that chefs always add butter to every finished product, always!!! that really made me think. I love going out to eat!!! Love the leftovers....
  7. you are being really hard on yourself! we are all in a big hurry to get rid of as much as we can as quick as we can! the band doesn't work that way. you are doing a great job with the weight you have lost! I don't think anyone means to hurt your feelings but I understand how you feel. I think they really just want the best for you. keep posting and "venting" your feelings, it will help!
  8. I had lots of broth, jello, popsicles, and water. I really wasn't hungry for the first 2 weeks. I never worried about having too much, drink several times a day. full liquids will be better, I love my protein shakes so I really felt like was getting some nutrition! I loved having cream soups too. make sure to drink as much water as possible, it helps everything!

8 Mos Post Op Need Buddy

what are you doing on a daily basis to take care of the new you? I agree with TMF, you need to use your doc and nutritionist! they want to help and they do understand the frustrations. have you looked at the posts in the nutrition area of this forum? for myself, I try to change up my exercise, add more walking etc. I also try to keep my carbs low, under 65 a day. for me, it is hard. I do not eat bread. I eat more veggies than fruit. I drink a lot of Water, sometimes 10 or more glasses each day. my weight loss has been very slow lately, I only lose 1 lb. per week. I am just happy that I am still going in the right direction! the thing that has helped me get through this slow time is the inches I have lost. I am now wearing a size 12. I would not have believed it if I didn't try on clothes at the store. I am happy to help, if I can. you have no info on profile to tell me where you are at with weight? fill out your info, add a pic, get a ticker. thanks

How Many "perfect" People Are Out There?

perfect? hardly, I don't feel like I am on a diet. it feels like I am finally worth taking the time to eat better. I have not always thought I was worth working hard. Self esteem was a problem since I was about 13 or 14 years old! this surgery along with a wonderful class I am taking with my church have helped me to accept me, even the "warts"! I love that I go to a club to exercise, I would never have done so before the band. I never wanted anyone to look at me and my fat. I now work hard to get rid of that fat, for me. I enjoy the complements but the best it how much better I feel in general. I don't hurt all over anymore, I can walk a long way. It is amazing how different life is now. I log my food, all of it good, bad and ugly. it helps me to be accountable to me and what I want for my "new life"! some days it has way too many carbs or fat. it helps me to see it & hope that I won't do it too many times. I used to eat "crap" all the time and never accepted responsibility for it. I love how close to goal you are! I am not in a hurry, I just want to feel the best I can and live a healthy life but I want to get to that goal weight too!

When Does The Pain Die Down?

I felt the same after surgery. before I left the hospital a nurse showed me how to get up without putting any stress on my incision. she told me to turn to the side and grab something to pull myself up. it still hurt but I didn't worry that I would cause any problems. I used a heating pad on low for a long time, made me feel soooo much better. I know what you mean about trying to stand but, just get up and walk in the house. any walking will help, everyday will be better! I used to put a timer on and walk through the house, it was too cold to go out. I went around and around through the house, sounds nuts now, but it helped!! keep sipping the water too, it all makes a difference.

    Tips To Curb Sugar Cravings

you are right! this is definitely not a freebie, we work hard for the weight we lose! I think about what I am going to eat & how I will exercise all day long. kind of obsessed!! I just know I never, never want to go back to 239 lbs!!!

    Tips To Curb Sugar Cravings

I am sad to tell you that you must eliminate sugar! there are no tricks, it is like any other addiction. you will have withdrawal issues & it will take several weeks before you won't crave it. I too have a sugar addiction. I have started to buy really good dark chocolate and allow myself one, may be two pieces. I buy Lindt dark chocolate, it is divided into about eight pieces. they are about 50 calories. could this help??
  17. I will continue to take Vitamins, probably forever! your docs told you not to?? I don't understand that, I am a real fan of Dr. Oz and he thinks they are very important to our weight loss also, check out his website. http://www.doctoroz.com/

Introduction - New To The Site

Welcome and congrats on a great start! glad the surgery went well and the lbs are coming off. Most of us do not have a support group in our area, we really use this site to vent, ask questions and share the great stuff. Ask lots of questions and don't be afraid to try lots of exercise, it feels so good to move!! Sounds like you are involved with a super program in LA.!

    New Band

keep sipping liquids as often as possible. I was not hungry for many, many days after the surgery (I also had a hiatal hernia repair). try to walk too, it will help when the shoulder pain comes. this too shall pass, trust what the docs told you to do, it is sooooo worth it!

    Drinking My Last Coke

doesn't it sound ridiculous that we would mourn the loss of food but it has been our "friend" for such a long time. I understand, I understand all too well! I do have to say, I have new favorite foods now. I have tried really hard to find things to eat that make me happy. I know this will sound goofy but one of my big favs is spinach!! I eat it all the time, in eggs, salad, steamed with Protein. I buy the large box of it for $5.99 and never have to throw any away!!! I still have a drool or 2 for Taco Bell but, I can eat it just different now. I love the Fresco tacos they have. I always used to have the cheesy stuff. You will find new favorites to get excited about too!!! Good luck and welcome to this wonderful new life we get to live :- ))

    Early Nsv

Wow, that's almost better than the numbers on the scale!!! I always have a hard time believing that I can fit into a smaller size! I bought some pants for exercising and started with size large and ended in size small! I realize that all brands of clothes are different, it really doesn't matter, I am wearing a size small at the gym, I look good. I cannot believe how I can look in the mirror and see such a different body!!! Congrats to you, love this story!!!!

    In Mourning

do you have people you can call? It must be lonely without your husband. the night time is the hardest time. I will pray for strength. I have been in the same emotional state myself, I did not resist. I got back to normal "good' food the next day but, I felt like @#$%, I don't want to feel that way. I know it is temporary but keeping busy and keeping in touch with loved ones really helps.
