    Just Wondering...

For me, it was like losing a part of myself. Before being banded, my addiction to food was comforting. Deep down inside I wondered if I would be able to change my bad habits. So, I gradually let go of the girl that ate so much junk and failed at so many attempts to lose weight. I was a little sad and very overwhelmed. So, my body began to change, but my mind was almost the same as it had been for years leading up to the decision to have lap band surgery. With time (lots of time) I began to see a new person. With my band half full, the weightloss began to pick up. Every time the scale would go down I was amazed. Sometimes I would get back on it, just to make sure it was working right, ha. I feel like I never really lost myself. It is more like I found myself underneath all that food and weight. It has not been easy. I am very careful about what I DO need now. I get my rest, take my Vitamins, have a lot of Protein and exercise 30 minutes, five days a week. Not only do I look better, I feel better and that makes me happy. I would say give it a little time. If you find yourself slipping into depression, call your doctor. You deserve to be happy.

    Need Help And Info

You are not doing anything wrong! It just takes me. I remember being able to eat A LOT for a couple of months. You just have to do the best you can. The first six weeks are for healing . Maybe now you can begin getting your food choices in order....protein first, veggies, whole grains, Water and Vitamins. Good luck...you can do this!!!
  5. I think my first fill was 3cc's. The next one was 1cc, then 1/2 cc......I'll be honest, it took a few months before I felt good restriction. You will get there! My band is a little over half full at 6cc's. It is working I love my band!

    Yayayayaya Got My Date!!!

Happy Day I am so excited for you!!! I remember the day I got my date, I was in a daze, ha ha...
  9. Its hard, no doubt. My doctor only required me to do the Sugar Buster's diet. I had a five day liquid diet after surgery, a week of creamy, and a week of mushy. I don't know why doctor's are so different. I know the purpose of the Sugar Buster's diet (2 weeks) is to shrink your liver. I know that Protein makes all the difference in the world. (I'm going to change my name to Ms. Protein because I preach about it all the time) What kind of liquids are on your diet? Can you have creamy Soups? Maybe a puree'd sweet potato with lots of low fat milk, splenda and cinnamon? It will be worth it, this I know for sure.

    Lots Of Questions!

Welcome to the journey! I take chewable Vitamins. My very favorite Protein drink is Syntrax nectar. I like the cappuchino flavor, I put it in coffee. They also have strawberry kiwi, fuzzy navel, Cookies and creme, etc. Now that sodas are out, I like some of the flavored waters. Excess skin...hmmm...what can I say, I'm 51, so it just doesn't snap back, ha. But I do exercise regularly and lotion up repeatedly during the day. After surgery I had chicken broth, popsicles and Jello. A day or two later I found out that I love cream of chicken Soup. After five days or so, I put homemade veggie soup in the blender. It wasn't pretty, but it was goooooood! Go get em'

    You Don't Need Surgery...

I lost 11lbs pre-op on the Sugar Busters Diet. I know in my heart and mind that if I had not had lap band surgery, I would have gained it back and then some. One of the posters said before the band they were never full. Now, I'm full....and happy!!!

    Phsyc Evaluation

I had the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). It was about 560 yes or no questions that were re-phrased and repeated along the way.I just answered honestly and evidently I am not crazy, ha. Then I had an interview with the phsyc doctor (who was overweight too by the way). She just asked me why I wanted the surgery, and I was honest again. (failed dieting, health issues, etc.) Then she collected her $350 and gave me my approval. Just another hurdle.....keep jumping through the hoops, its worth it!

Left Shoulder Pain 6 Days Post Op

I believe what you are experiencing is referred pain. My doctor explained that the nerves on the top of your stomach run to your left shoulder. Anyway, I had it BAD and wondered if I would have to live like this the rest of my life. Fortunately, it did subside and I rarely have any shoulder or neck pain. It should get better

How Many "perfect" People Are Out There?

I am far from perfect. Still, the band keeps me in check. Even if I have cake, cookies or something fried, I can only manage a little. I know I could be losing faster, but, as long as I'm losing and living, I'll take that any day of the week .

What Was Your " Ah Ha" Moment?

For me, the option of WLS had to build up over time. I kept thinking that I have lost weight in the past and I could do it again. I would lose and gain more over and over again. Then in the spring of 2011 I went to my cousin's wedding. The dress I wore was my "fat dress". It was so tight that the seam began to rip in the back whenever I sat down. I kept thinking "my dress is going to rip"...."how have I gotten this way"...."I'm so out of control"...This was my ah ha moment. I began to diet, again. My doctor said I needed surgery on my feet. My hips and knees hurt all the time. I had a realistic talk with myself. I finally knew I would have to have surgery. Do I want to have surgery on my feet, my knees, my hips or do I try lap band? I scheduled a consultation and had the surgery less than six months later. Foot pain...gone; Knee pain...gone; Hip pain...gone.....36lbs...gone.

Help, I Can't Win The Food Fight Mentallly.

We get frustrated from time to time, no doubt. I think thats normal. I didn't get good restriction until my band was more than half filled. That said, I know I have to make better choices too. The band is just a tool. There are some foods that I just cannot keep in the house because I will eat them. Also, I had to make exercise a regular part of my life. I don't want to, but, I do. When I get on the scale and the numbers have gone down, I realize it is worth it. You can do this!

Looking For Pcos Stories Of Encouragement

I don't have PCOS, but, I can tell you lap band surgery is changing my life. I am so much healthier and happier. I wish this for you too:) Congratulations on having the surgery! Remember, the first six weeks are for healing. It takes several fills to feel restriction. You really have to have patience with yourself. I look forward to hearing about your success in the future. Find your joy....its out there.
