  1. I got a massage on my collar bone & front pecs. Bit was awesome & really helped that crazy gas pain. It will get better...I promise!! Hang in there!
  2. That's not good news...day 3-5 were the worst. I've tried heating pad as well. I was really hoping for some miracle cure but truthfully I didn't expect one. Thanks!!!
  3. Ok, I've survived 3 days post-op. In general I don't feel really bad, but these gas pains are killing me. I feel like there's a huge gas bubble just under my breast bone. My collar bone is so very sore from gas. My stomach makes grumbling sounds now & again and that provides a little bit if relief. If I could let out a huge belch I think I would feel awesome. I've been going for a minimum of 4 walks a day for 20-30 minutes each. I've tried gas-x but hate them, they almost make me gag. I'm drinking my water. I've been drinking about 120ml of boost & 1/4 c chicken broth per day. I've also had a few little bites of jello over the last couple of days. I really don't know what else to do. Any suggestions? I haven't taken T3 since yesterday afternoon, don't think they really help with the gas pains. Looking for other suggestions. I plan to try a warm shower tonight since I can take bandages off today & am allowed to shower.
  4. I'm from Manitoba, Canada. Was banded 9/27. Lisa.
  5. I can relate to this. It was about 4 days before starting pre-op diet. I awoke around 4am and had this feeling of pure anxiety. My chest wad tight & I was freaking out. I went to work & almost came home because I was having a hard time holding myself together. I know I'm a worrier, but this kind of thing has never happened to me before. I stuck it out at work & when I came home for lunch, my husband was able to put it in perspective for me & really calm me down. I wad saying that my whole life was going to change. His response was, no not your whole life. You're still going to be the same person, you're still going to get up every morning and kiss your kids goodbye, you're still going to going to go to work, etc. He really does have a way of calming me down. Now I'm only 2 days post-op and I don't have any wonderful stories yet, but nor do I have Amy real horror stories either. I know it will be worth it some day and that's what is getting me through, Good luck to you. I hope you can find peace with your decision.
  6. I told my closest girlfriends and immediate family only. I told co-workers I was having surgery but that I didn't want to discuss it. I reassured them that I was fine & didn't have a life threatening illness (at thus point). And that I had to be on a very specialized diet. I told them this the day before starting my 2 week pre-op diet. During that time I got my head wrapped around a lot if things & of course lost weight on that diet so my confidence increased. I decided to fill them in on my last day if work. N Only a few asked me some questions and they seemed really supportive. I'm glad I told them, but I'm happy with the way I went about it. It's what I needed to do for me, at that time. Good luck...go with your gut!
  7. I've tried one of those heating bags you heat up in the microwave, which helped in the evening. But now in the middle of the night, not so much. I tried ice for a but. Now I've got the heating pad on it, but still feel the pain & cNt really sleep. I've put on some relaxation music & am just resting. I'm sure time will help. Thx for the advice. Hanging in.....
  8. Was banded less than 12 hours ago. I did OK,with the exception of this pain in my collar bone and neck on the left side. I am assuming it's the gas shoulder pain everyone talked about, but I can't seem to find any relief. I tried gas-x, T3 (only a 1/2), i've propted myself up on a couple of pillows-don't own a recliner, I've been drinking Water and sleeping on and off. It's 1:30AM so a walk is a little out of the question. Not sure what else to try. It's very painful. Other than that, so far so good. But if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!
  9. that's exactly what I did and "no matches found"....oh well. I will go about it another way. Thanks anyway. Lisa
  10. I am looking forward to trying that pizza! Just getting banded tomorrow so have to survived that and the post-op diet first
  11. Nope, that didn't work either. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  12. I couldn't find mylapband app...could it be because I live in Canada? That's the only reason I could think of.
  13. Hey I'm the 27th as well. I'm feeling a little anxious today. I have a lot of work to do today & them off for two weeks. Hopefully that will distract me today. Good luck to you! Lisa
  14. I have an IUD and haven't had a period for over 4 years, until today. Spotted a bit Sunday & Monday and here we are with a full fledged period (IMO, but still not like my normal ones before IUD). I'm not impressed. Is this diet related (on day 8 of 14 day pre-op diet), is my IUD just waring out since it is due to be taken out in April 2012, or is it just a coincidence?? I'm not sure, but as I said I'm not impressed. Lisa
  15. I don't know off the top of my head what brand mine are, they were sullied to me, but they are chocolate. At first I thought they tasted like liquid chalk. I'm on day 8 out of 14 and I'm used to them. Vi actually added some crystal light to them and they are actually yummy. If they were vanilla I think there would be more options to flavor them, but I tried strawberry-orange-banana and then the mixed berry crystal lights. I quite enjoyed them. But then again I'd probably enjoy eating a piece of cardboard right now. It has gotten easier & I'm still sticking to it. Learning that I can go to bed hungry & I still wake up on the morning...it doesn't kill me. Good luck!
  16. I live in a small town just south of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
  17. I am being banded in one week (9/27/11). I've been researching a winter vacation with friends & they are ready to book today. I'm not sure what it will be like after the band. I know I won't get my "moneys worth" at the all inclusive, but it's really more about the convenience. Also will my insurance cover me if I have any issues when I'm there (I'm from Canada & have travel insurance through my work plan & my husbands work plan)...just wondering if any other Cdns have experience with this. Appreciate any advice/insight. Thanks, Lisa
  18. Sign me up for the post opt support group. I think it will be great to connect with others after! I was pretty hungry this afternoon and was very tempted by kraft dinner of all things, but I didn't do it. I instead had 1c of spagetti swash...which turns out is a LOT of squash! I am stuffed! I still can have 1 c of veggies & my protein bar today. I can't believe the change in my nerves/anxiety over this past week. 7 days ago I didn't want to tell anyone, but I have and the support is amazing. I'm so lucky to have such great friends. Even my kids are praising me like crazy for sticking to this diet. I never thought I could do it. I was a wreck a week ago, but now I'm getting excited for the surgery. I was walking through the mall today thinking about all the different stores I'll be able to shop in again! I am very excited about that. Plus sized clothing selections suck! I can't wait to never wear plus sized clothing again!!!
  19. Hi everyone. Glad to hear those who have had their surgery already are doing well. My surgery date is Sept 27. Today is day 6 of the pre-op diet, which I was super concerned about. It consists of 2 protein shakes, 1 protein bar & 2 cups of select veggies per day. It's been tough & I'm hungry quite a bit, but I haven't taken one bite of other food. I've even gotten used to the shakes & almost enjoy them. And I've lost 8 lbs already! Thanks to everyone for updating us after surgery, please keep it up! Lisa
  20. Hi Electronicart... Glad to have you along for this ride. Today is 3 day of my pre-op diet and I'm struggling a little, but I'm going to push through. I'm going to see Keith Urban in concert tonight, so I'll be good and distracted for the evening!
  21. It's RINGETTE - it's kind of like hockey for girls, but totally different rules. It's played with a straight stick and a rubber ring. It's a super fun game to watch because they have to pass over the blue lines. It's very much a team sport. My daughter is only 9 and each year the game gets faster. Lisa
  22. Hi Martha..I'm scheduled for the next day, Sept 27th and I'm very new to this board. Just wanted to wish you luck and will be sure to check in on our journey!
  23. Hi there. My name is Lisa aka Scrapper4life. I live in a small town just south of Wpg, MB. I work full time in a credit union. I have been married to my husband for 18 years and we have two beautiful daughters, age 9 & 11. Our life is comprised of ringette, cheerleading, softball and any other activities our two girls can get away with. I also have a serious scrapbooking addiction (just in case you didn't get that from my screen name). I don't get to scrapbook as much as I like because of the aforementioned activities, but have lots to scrapbook because of the same! LOL My surgery is scheduled for Sept 27th. I'm on day 2 of the 2 week pre-op diet, which kind of sucks. I'm very nervous about the upcoming surgery and just know I'll find support here, even though I do have lots of support from family and friends. (I've got 4 girlfriends following modified dietplans with me!!!) I am looking forward to learning from others experiences and hearing everyone's success stories...have to focus on the positive things! The thing I'm most looking forward to is , in addition to the eating less and exercising more is buying non-plus-sized clothing!
