Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!

Exhausted
Interesting: just had an email exchange with my doc office in which I complained about fatigue and malaise. I just don't care about doing anything. Absolutely nothing engages my interest. I also bled copiously during surgery but not enuf to require xfusion. But I go to the gym and come home to sleep at least 2 hrs. After that I don't know what to do with myself. And, I'm hungry, to boot. I'm 5 weeks out today and graduate to meat mush tomorrow. Big whoop. I felt the same @ the surgery and think I still do. I need a hobby that doesn't require creativity...cuz I think that was excised with the ghrelin gremlin. Oh the doc office said I wasn't getting enuf Water (rolling on the floor doing the backstroke) ha!

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Hi...do yourself a big favor...be glad you found out way in advance that you don't care for the diet regimine your surgical group follows and find some other group before u commit. Once you've gone thru it, and are craving protein shakes, you won't be able to change then. Also, you might want to ask if chewing gum, sf Jello and Soup will be permitted. I can't have any of those, either. I do think my group is using a diet they give to RNY patients and haven't bothered upgrading it t meet the needs of sleevers. Whatever, wish u the best of luck!

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Well, its my body, right and I think I know what I'm feeling/doing but my track record as a body 'keeper' isn't that terrific, is it? I mean this mess is self created. That's why id hesitate to tell the doc he is totally off beam. Do I really know? Do any of us? Your def. of insanity reminds me of a song my personal trainer shared with me "I love to bang my head on the wall" (4x rep) bop bop "I love to bang my head on the wall cuz it feels so good when I stop!"

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
I treadmilled for 20 minutes with HR at 107, did 12 rep curls with 12 # bar and dunno what its called but lifted bar to feet and up again 10x. Did a bench march for 2 min and then something else laying down...I need to find out the names of the movements. I had two Protein shakes, one egg, 2 oz turkey sli8ces (not deli prep) several bottles of water, 1/4 small can sliced beets and 2oz chicken fillet done in the pan without any oil and 3 icepops. So for that, I'm punished. Eh. I know this will change, too, but am anticipating (worrying) that I will have to be constantly moving if I am to lose another ounce. Foooey. if I wasn't sleeved, what would be the difference? Ty for the cheer.

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Oh wow, you really went through the mill with both surgeries. I just gained a full lb probably from using liquids with calories which my surgeon forbid. Sigh. What do I do now? If I fast all day and just drink Water then maybe I can lose that pound again? This is the crux of the matter, Dave. I know I signed up for a lifestyle change and I have changed and am changing progressively. But I didn't sign up to be obsessed with a flipping scale and the diet police waiting for me on a monthly basis. I'm o.k. with the gym and the swim. Its becoming a new religion...fine! I just want to be able to have a life without constant worry @ how much I weigh ...I wanted to get away from defining my success or failure in life by how I look and what I eat. I keep wanting to shake it all off like a dog shakes water off its coat and runs away to roll in the mud....

Itchy, Itchy, Itchy
Just fyi the nurse from the surgeon's office said not to use hydrocortisone and she sent me to the pcp. I don't recall the type of creme and I don't know why she didn't recommend hydrocortisone.... My situation is that my surgeon is 45 minutes away from where I live so I have to rely on the pcp to 'rescue' me. Good luck, again! And let us know what's 'tickling' you! <grin>

Itchy, Itchy, Itchy
Hi beyon, I bhad a definite rash on my arms my sides and my upper thighs. My pcp gave me some zyrtec and a creme. It went away. I was allergic to something and we didn't know what it was but glad it wore off. I think you should let your pcp know and look at the rash. You shouldn't scratch and make an infection! Good luck

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Daisy and soupawoman, 3 or 4 bites a meal? In my dreams! I envy you that ability. I'm only starting my 5th week on Tuesday and wasn't rx'd ANY liquid calories (but, we just heard that Protein shakes aren't considered liquids...so that's a new thought) I wonder how many of these shakes can be consumed per day? Those of you who were given the go ahead: were u given a limit on how many could be consumed? I'm a hurry up and get to the gym morning person. I don't like to eat before my workouts. So I would normally (pre surgery of my own devise) drink a double shake before heading out. I'm going to do that this a.m. and will follow with dense protiens for lunch. Gotta get to wild foods (my name for the health food store) for a box of their Amazing something or other powder that's green in color and the most satisfying Protein Drink I ever had. Expensive as all get out, as well. Since I have a tendency to overdue anything...please respond if you were given limits on Protein Shakes or instructions for how to use them. Thanks

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Thanks for the sentiment, CC. In an effort to prevent an incendiary situation, I won't reflect on the negative: what's done, is done and I'm confident I handled it with equanimity. I also want to say that, at my advanced age, I've been on listservs and discussion forums since DOS was the only way to go. While these 'attacks' never are pleasant, one CAN recognize certain limits in an attackers communication and choose to deflect the attack by 1. Responding mildly and 2. Not responding directly or 3.responding selectively to the most helpful messages. IOW just blow it off. I have no ill feeling toward anyone who responded here. We've all jumped the gun and misinterpreted comments and provoked with seemingly innocuous messages. A good friend of mine from my working days has to deal with the most contentious groups of people (elementary and jr hi school teachers) and she always comments "bless them" even to the most rabid. I try to emulate that attitude. I hope no one feels excluded or disrespected as a result of anything I wrote. I've been relying heavily on the good advice of these forums since I woke up after my surgery and I've found the majority here and in other discussion lists are plain good folk who share a common goal and a willingness to reach out to others. All best, Rosie

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
I don't have a separate NUT like u do. Just the nurse in the surgeon's officce. I've emailed her several times and didn't get any answer plus the fact that she "screeched at me" about noncompliance in one early email...well, id rather not ask. Thanks for sharing what your NUT said. I couldn't believe how very calm I felt after my protein drink. I could actually stop thinking @ food. Plus, I took the hint from someone else who said she uses th canned vegs if she's hungry...I had sardines for dinner and I did want something a couple hours later so had some mushrooms (which I didn't like) and then some canned beets. I'm ready for sleep now. Got an early workout at the gym. I think, maybe, I have found a path or something to work wth. Most people are very caring and willing to share...tho some try to dominate with their own experiences, most can listen to another's point of view and be compassionate. Here's to you...and most people. <grin>

Thanks for that sentiment. I sure hope I come to terms with this and that I can be peaceful @ it. Best to u, too.

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
The doc never put me on a diet before the surgery and after I had ensure for 2 weeks and then well chewed protein introducing a different kind first week cottage heese, yogurt, potato, thin Cereal. The second week lose the potato and cereal and start fish, 3d week chicken and turkey, 4th week meat (which I don't eat red meat) and jan. 15 add salad and raw veggies and 60 grams protein. He claims later I can have vegie juice etc but not this first 6 weeks. He said he wants to take advantage of the sleeve. But the sleeve was taking advantage of me. Betcha I'll have more energy in the gym tomorrow. I dunno if you are having too much but I was also denied soup except for broth. Shrug

Huh? What is she going to do? Demand he do it again? Are you 100% in control of your sense of hunger now that you've been sleeved?

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Swizzly and Bionic kiss kiss! I just had a few hours of peace! No driving eat eat eat sensation. No freezing. Just peaceful sit and do whatever...focus easily. Holy cow and all it took was a Protein drink. Thanks both so much for the support and feedback. I used protein drinks before the vsg and they helped tide me over and I was lost without them. Now I will integrate them int the plan and use them as snack and supplements if I go nuts again. I am contracted 3x a week with a personal trainer and the other 3 or 4 days I workout on my own so....

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Swizzly you got me convinced. I'm going out for a new container of almond milk and going to load up on a Protein shake. My mouth Is frozen from the ice pops.that's the only snack I was given. Though I wonder if canned mushrooms or greenbeans would be considered a snack? I don't really understand how to use those because he said 2 oz protein and if any room left then the veggies...hmmmm...maybe that's supposed to be my snack? Well, I wonder how chocloate syrup (absolutely no nutritive value) would go with strngbeans???? Uh nah ....???? Thanks for the feedback

Ps: you do quite well dishing out sarcasm yourself! Would u like a mirror?
-
Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
If you want sarcasm, I can produce it. Just say when! What I posted was MY definitions of heartburn and hunger. Yes I lost over 128# on phentermine. Then I broke a couple bones and ran into physical diffiulties that prevented me from exercising. Plus, the doc decided to get me off phentermine after several years. The weight started to creep back on. I freaked. That's what brought me to vsg. I was taking a medication that gave me severe heartburn which only 5 weeks of Nexium 40 would alleviate. I am still taking nexium 40 and have not had any sensation of heartburn at all even tho I am back on the medication, as well. So I am intimately aware of MY definition of heartburn. Enough people in the forums have voiced the same idea that hunger is really heartburn. That don't mean they are right. It doesn't mean some of them aren't right. What it means is, at least for me and a few other respondents, hunger sensations to do not equal heartburn sensations. It is frustrating to be told repeatedly that I am really having heartburn instead of hunger and I should take MORE of the PPI than I'm taking. Just because someone else said it, doesn't make it true. I'm not able to satisfy my HUNGER with 6 ounces (per day) of Protein. I AM HUNGRY.

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Mrs newme and all: Heartburn: an actual sensation of burning (painful) in the esophagus sometimes with burping of bad gas. Can sometimes mimic heartattack. Hunger: sensation of emptiness in stomach accompanied by salivation (sometimes) a sense of lite headedness sometimes and a desire to eat. Where on earth do u see a resemblence between these two body sensations?

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Bionicb Please don't mke an assumption that I am not eating Protein because I am. But I find if I don't feel very uncomfortable and like I'm going to heave, I am not 'full' and if I'm not full, I haven't eaten enuf. No amt of trickery will get that to change. At 8a. I had @ 3 3/4 oz protein. At 11 30 I was starved. I drank Water...no dice. I had a cup of decaf coffee and got busy planting a bulb. At 12 I put protein in the microwave to warm and ate it alllll (about 4.5 oz) and have that I'm gonna hurl feeling in my middle but my mouth is watering! And if I could, I would shove more protein. But I am out of the kitchen for the moment. I hope this 'full' sensation lasts for at least a couple hours. I am NOT eating sweets or carbs. I am 'cheating' with protein. Something is wrong with my head. The surgeon wanted me to lose another 40# by jan 31 when I see him 6 weeks after. I've lost a total of 35 (incluidng the first 20) and I don't see how I will get to the next 30 without being able to follow his diet of 6 ounces max per day. It makes no sense to me even if I could do it. Starting on he 15th, I'm to eat 60grams of protein per day. He didn't put a limit on ounces. I don't know how that works. All I know is he said NO liquids WITH CALORIES. PERIOD. SO that eliminates Protein shakes. Today is the first day my weight did not go down and, in fact is up 4 oz per the digital scale. I'm afraid I blew the chance I had already. I've tried to get back to 2 oz per meal but there is no way on earth that I can manage it....unless I have my head chopped off as well.

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
The only "snack" I'm allowed is sf ice pops. Or broth or water. My doc is a sadist. Ice pops in winter??? And NO sf jello is not approved. He also forbid protein shakes. No liquids with calories.

Really Tired After Exercising
You're 3 weeks out and you can have a banana? Drool. Who's your surgeon? Mine won't even allow veggies (canned only) or any fruit. I've been doing treadmill (3 minutes the first week) and wimming since week two. Also doing 12 pd bar curls....and I need a huge nap after my workouts. But am noticing I can do more now (almost 5 wks out) and don't nap as long any more. I say hang in.

Almost 5 Weeks Post-op And I'm Starving!
Sunshine, I was sleeved 12/5 and have the same pblm with hunger. Its not acid reflux and if I hear that again, I might scream. I know first hand what relux feels like and this ain't it. I find that I can not eat forever or I have to eat over the top. 2oz is no longer adequate. Period. I'm betting my sleeve is an utter failure. I don't think the doc made it tight enough or it already stretched out. All I do know is if I say anything to the (military like0 nurse I will be prosecuted with cries of "You are in noncompliance this early out and that means you won't be successful". So I'm not saying boo. I'm just trying my hardest to control what I eat (and another scream is coming to anyone who says weigh and measure...cuz I have everything I can eat in small dishes or baggies already measured or weighed!) And if I could really control my eating I wouldn't have needed a f&^%(}g operation. Oh yes, one more person to say "life style change" ...that rates violent responses. I've had it up to here. I think the sleeve is a load of hooey...a definite get rich quick scheme for hospitals and absolute failure for me. There. I said it.
