    Carbonated Drinks

I havent been banded yet. Waiting for my thyroid to stabalize. I am curious to know how carbonated drinks can erode the band if the band is on the outside of the stomach?
  2. The next step in my research - I go for my first consultation tomorrow with Slimband and then one on Friday with SWLC. I am very excited and anxious at the same time...lol My husbands insurance doesnt cover wls so I will be self paying. Of course I have all the doubts I am sure most of you had when self paying - such as - am I worth it, is it fair to put us in debt by getting a loan for the surgery, will it work. Well, I ran into the wife of a co worker today and I remembered she had the lap band put on almost 10 years ago. She is an amazing woman who is slim and so self assured. I told her I was going to the consultation tomorrow and she immediately pulled a picture out of her pocket and said - "this is me at 300 lbs. It was the best thing I ever did" I told her I was worried about the port being uncomfortable etc and she said, here touch my port. You could feel it through her blouse. She told me that when she first got it , it was about 3 inches under all her fat and now it is fairly close to her skin. She has had absolutely no problems with it. I was surprised at how small it was. Dont know what size I was imagining it to be - certainly not that small. So, I will see how I do in the next couple of days because I have decided I am worth it and it will be worth going in debt for 5 years to get my life back. Lynn

    Have to postpone surgery :(

Hi Dulci, My dr also told me to change the way I take my levothyroxine. I have to take it by itself as well and then wait an hour to eat. Sure hope it is working because I am very anxious to get this surgery done. Did you lose any weight with the increased dose of meds? Lynn
  4. My bloodwork came back and my thyroid is totally out of whack. I have been on the same dosage of thyroxine for 25 years with yearly blood tests. The meds keep my thyroid normal. Now my numbers are almost off the scale. Dr. thought I had stopped taking my meds but I have been taking them faithfully every morning. So, now I have to postpone my surgery date for a couple of months. The date was October 21. If all goes well with the increased dosage of thyroxine, I should be able to have my surgery at the end of November. Lynn

    Have to postpone surgery :(

Hi, I have had the same generic brand for 12 years and it is only this year that the test showed my thyroid was acting up. The only thing I can think of that I changed in the past few months is that I started taking PGX (a Fiber pill) that is supposed to expand in your stomach and make you feel full. I followed the instructions on the bottle where it says take PGX at least an hour after any medications to give the meds time to be absorbed. I wonder because my metabolism is so slow that the PGX didnt allow the meds to absorb into my system. Just a thought but I cant think of anything else that I have changed. Lynn

    Emotional & goodbyes

Beautifully written! You have expressed how a lot of us have felt or in my case are feeling right now. My surgery had to be postponed due to thyroid problems and I am anxious to get this over and start my new life. Like everyone else says, say hello to the new you. You are taking the best of you on this journey and leaving the worst behind.

Help, I am so confused :(

I have been doing a ton of research regarding the lap band and have read so many opposing opinions that I am totally confused. So I thought I would post here since this is a lap band forum. I have been told by many in my research that the lap band wont work for me because I have a bmi of 50.4. Several times I have been told that I am only setting myself up for disappoinment and that it will be a waste of money. Is there anyone out there that started with a high bmi and has found the lap band an effective tool. I am not looking for a miracle, just for something that is less invasive than gastric bypass and will aid me in my Quest for a healthier life. I am 60 years old and dont want to spend the rest of my life morbidly obese. As it stands now, I will be 65 before the loan for this surgery will be paid off. I dont want to go into this feeling I am wasting all that money. Lynn

Help, I am so confused :(

wow ! Thanks for all the encouragement. You have all certainly put my mind at ease. I think I have done just about all the research I need to now and will concentrate on my consultations this week. No need for me to go on to any other site to ask questions or read horror stories. Thank you for this forum . It is both helpful and informative and I plan on participating on here for a very long time. Lynn
