  1. I think you just have to get a new "mindset" about life. Some things we do are out of habit. Example: I have a 2 hour appt. twice a week. It is over at around lunch time. ALWAYS stopped at McDonalds. Yesterday I finsished the appt. and drove straight to McDonalds. Sitting in line I realized: You dope..you are on liquids. Pulled out of line and had abottle of water. Good Luck in whatever you decide.
  2. Bev, we are the same age. I have not heard anything negative about our age group and the band. Where do you live?
  3. Dr. Mike Hovey, Omaha NE. He is a partner in Omaha Gastric Bypass. He prefers the band, but does all WLS. He is also a Vein specialist. Really nice guy, I feel comfortable with him. So important!
  4. Cream of wheat on my pre-op, life is good.

  5. Just started the pre-op yesterday, so nothing to report yet. I lost 14 pounds from my first surgeon's visit to my pre-op weigh in on 11/17. Pretty darn proud of myself. Bear gained a pound. Our pre-op is liberal for a liquid plan. Low sugar yogurt, cream of wheat !!, and canned tomato soup made with water, and all the similar stuff. Had a bowl of cream of wheat with Almond Milk for lunch. Just hanging in there.
  6. Hey Bev, Welcome to our link with sanity. My hubby (pic) and I are doing it together. His date is 11/29 and I am 11/30. I am really excited, and I am sure you are too. We are taking a big jump into a new life. Stay in touch and be mine friend if you would like.
  7. The nurse navigator told us that if you have the Sleeve or Bypass, they expect you to wait 12 -18 months before becoming pregnant. CHECK with your F-doc and also with the WL surgeon about the time frame you will need to wait before attempting. Good luck,
  8. Someone said they bought yogurt with only 6 carbs. I have not been able to find anything less than 18 which was Greek with fruit. Please any info would be great. I am close to Omaha so most stores are available. Thanks,

LOW CARB / HIGH PRO Yogurt

Thanks for all the ideas. Would not have considered adding sugar free jam to the Greek yogurt. Great idea. Found out that our Bakers Store up here in the Midwest are actually Kroger. Going to also try to CARBMaster/
  10. My birthday is on Thanksgiving this year. I heard there is a protein shake called cake batter; anyone know what brand it is?
  11. So all patients with the Surgeon's Group attend a 2 hour pre-op info. seminar. It was pretty general, considering there were folks there getting all the WLS. I really love the idea of being home that night, and not doing 2-3 days at the hospital. I choose the band. Learned about the Sleeve, a little to scary, I get being stapled, but cut off a chuck off me. Not for me. More of the folks getting the Sleeve or GB than the band yesterday. I had to laugh, someone said, I'm getting the Sleeve so I never have to worry about it again. Well, I'm here to tell you; nothing in life is certain. I know many (16) people that have had the GB and have gained it all back. Life is tough, we just have to be tougher. Have a great weekend; and think thin.

    taking meds/cutting/crushing etc.

You should have an appt with a pharmacy through you surgeon. We did our yesterday, and I have already called our PCP to change 2 of Bear's meds.
  15. Final appt with surgeon yesterday. He likes to do 4 fills the first 6 months. He reports that he has seen the best success with this routine. Post op visit in 7 days, first fill within 30 days. $125 a fill. I asked about people who are losing with out fills, he said this is his preference and is the best option. Any thoughts or input ???

    Food Funeral

Had some of those ideas last week, not my husband, he did say he'd like to drink a beer, but decided not to. I have lost 14 pounds since my first visit in Sept. so the doc was pleased and so was I. Bear stayed the same but doc was ok with that. Pre op starts Friday for both of us. We have an invite out tonight for birthday dinner. Think I will have a piece of catfish, and a slice of brisket; nothing crazy like a buffet, just a hometown Bar B Q. November 2011 is a good thing.

Question for Eating after the Surgery

I went and bought some small appetizer bowls and plates this weekend. Really pretty and I moved the real dishes up to the top shelf.
  25. Hey Matt; I'm glad you posted today. I had the same questions. Guess I will go but 2 heating pads, don't think I'll be in the mood to share. Liquid Tylenol, would not have thought about that for after the good drugs run out..
