    Question

You are the same as before surgery....until you have some fills and get to YOUR restriction point. Stick to it and do watch what you are eating. My doc's fills....take around 1 minute. I had to stand at first..now I lay down. He manipulates your tummy to find the port. Bing Bang Boom...your done....no pain.....later down the road you could get an over fill.....not pleasent...but fixable. Good Luck....
  2. I love the Unjury...chocolate and vanilla. My husband still prefers Muscle Milk and can get 72 grams of protein in 1 shake. Higher in calories,,,but has worked well for him.

    High Protein/low Fat Foods...

Salmon fresh or in the water pack.. I mix the package with cottage cheese and some fat free Ranch dressing. I am lucky; I can eat small amounts of chops and steak. I love Greek yogurt too much. I have a problem with cheese so don't eat much of that. When in doubt Muscle Milk shake. Make sure you get enough daily protein...I have for the start...have not lost any hair, nails are still good, and I do think I have found a muscle or too as the fat has gone.
  4. Started at a 24...wearing a 14 now, however my male cousin commented about my sagging ass pants yesterday. I think I will stick with 14's until fall and buy new then. Hope to have hit my goal weight by my year anniversary on 11/30. My husband started in a 48 jeans, and bought him 36 in June. I still have a weight goal..set by my doc.....so we will see how it goes.

    7 Hrs Post Op

It's all about attitude .... and you have a good one. Follow doctor's order's to the letter, and if you have concerns call the doctor's office.....that's why you paid him $$$$$$$$$$$. Good Luck

    Hungry Every Two Hrs

You are early on in the game. My savior was coffee...doc said it was ok if I used fat free cream...I drank it hot and iced. Now I drink lots of water and ice tea. I had 5 fills before I had restriction, then that #5 was an overfill and I thought I was going to die. Hang in there; You Can Do It.
  7. I had my total knee at 270 pounds, it was a struggle to recover. My husband just had total knee and thanks to the Lapband on 11-29-11, his recovery is amazing. As I have lost weight 75 pounds my knee is working better than ever and my other knee will remain until later. I would check with a PT and see what they suggest for rehabbing a knee when you are obese. My rehab at 270 is far different from my husband who now weighs 220. Wishing you the best.
  8. Get to your dentist, I had to get new dentures as I was unable to chew meats and was living on hard boiled eggs and tuna. Someone once posted: Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. Stay positive; you can do this.
  9. OMG... this is why I logged in today. Tried to eat a bite of watermelon. I chewed and chewed and chewed. Did not go down and was afraid it would get stuck. I rarely eat fruit so this is not a big deal....but who would have thought ?
  10. YES, this has been the best 7 months; though I have had to work to learn how to use this tool called a Lapband. No fast food, no fruit, just a little healthy food is all you really need. I'm afraid of carbs....I try to compose my day with protein....my big splurge is a baked potato once a week.
  11. Medicaid in most states requires a 6 month monitored diet prior to requesting surgery.

What To Do When Food Gets Stuck?

PB PB PB....when it happened it is because I did not chew or the bite was just more than I needed. Th e slimes are the worst. I agree; I rarely go out to eat; can;t eat enough to make it work buying A TACO at the Tex Mex place. Had a stuck while out with friends, they thought I was choking and asked if I needed help.
  13. Agree with lawgirl...the more you lose the easier it will be. My surgeon is the guy they send to when others are unable to do the fill. I would think they would have had you under Fluoroscopic as soon as the problem occurred. Our doc books every 15 minutes on fill days...we go in together....he his done with both of us in 5 minutes....The dietitian and Center leader spend about 15 minutes updating and answering questions. GOOD LUCK
  14. We were told to start daily vitamins during our pre-op and should continue from there on. So many chewables.....any type of deficiency will affect you in some way... LOTS of PROTEIN and a daily. Have not lost any hair. When I go the the surgeon's office I see SO MANY ladies with no hair... or big bald and thining spots; he does the bypass as well so maybe they had that.

    Drinking Soda's??

Last diet coke, the night before surgery...really wish I would have made it a beer...had to give up that too. Carbonation and the bands are not friends....surgeon said no fizzy....so no fizzy.

    Frustrated!!!

Still vomiting on post op day 5 ....contact your surgeon's office...play it safe..Good Luck.

    Salmon Patties

Made salmon patties last week, same recipe I have used for years. Could not eat one; texture ? one bite and I could tell it was going to get stuck. In the old days I would have put tartar sauce on it. Settled for a Greek yogurt that night.

    Cream Of Wheat

My pre-op and post-op included cream, grits, and tomato soup. EACH surgeon has their guidelines....you picked your surgeon for the reasons. Listen to and follow his suggestions. Good Luck.
  21. Each Dr. is different as are the insurance companies....I had a fast approval.. about 4 days. There are soooo many people involved in the process; if one drops the ball is slows everyone down. I had surgery on Wed. and returned to work on Monday. Good Luck.

    Someone Noticed!!!!!!

    WOOT WOOT WAY TO GO.....
  23. My surgeon instructed me to eat for no more than 20 minutes; then stop.... I get 3, 1 cup meals a day and an am & pm high protein snack. So by the time I chew and put the fork down etc... I have only ate about half of my meal. After getting a stuck because I was over filled....I really try to take little bites and have learned what I can eat and what I need to leave behind. Still have some slimes, like the other day at a family event. I always have a paper towel, napkin something in my purse....cuz...when it blows it blows.
  24. I could have tomato soup on my full liquid. It put a little more in the tummy than water. I agree with get moving....I was fortunate and skipped the gas pains...Hang in there..it will pass..no pun intended. Good Luck

    So Much Info

Welcome; you will find lots of information and opinions on the site. Always refer to your medical professionals for solid advise and concerns. As we are all individuals so are body's. What works for one is not the be all end all. The band was the right choice for me; down 70 pounds in 6 months, unsure if that is typical. Some report over 100 pounds in 5 months while others have struggled to get 25-30 in 6 months. Hang in there girl and good luck.
