You are lucky... I would love a pre op diet of Clear Liquids for 2 days.
My pre op diet is lose 10% of my body weight. That's on a 1200 calorie diet. I have 29 pounds to lose before surgery.

My mom has told everyone and I am just in the beginning of the process. I think she is more proud, than worried...

Whole new you !! Beautiful!!!

I just joined this website because my husband and I are looking into getting the Gastric Sleeve Surgery done, and wanted some information on what it is exactly. I have been reading comments, and one of them said, "My Sleeve rocks", does this mean there is like a sleeve around your stomach? Forgive me for asking stupid questions, just trying to understand what its all about.
Check out Youtube to watch a VSG operation. There are some good ones posted and they are informative....

Do you know any one who quit the bariatrics program and then returned after a long time? I was wondering if when you came back, did you get a new pre op weight goal or did they make you keep the same goal?
I was gone for 4 years and gained 40 pounds. They wouldn't expect me to lose all that weight pre op would they?

That is good news....

...and now disrespectful.

Well, everyone's pre op requirements are different. My surgeon has me doing a low fat, low carb,
low Protein liquid diet for an entire week before surgery of which today is day 4 for me.
Below is a list of items I can eat
Broth- Low fat and Low sodium
Decaf coffee or Tea with no sugar may sweeten with sweet & Low, equal, splenda, stevia etc.
sugar free Popsicle
Crystal Light
Propel
And a shake or yogurt or Soup with additional Protein added to meet daily requirment of 20 grams-
If using yogurt then I must use the low fat, no sugar added such as carbmaster from Kroger.
The yogurts and shakes are not free foods in which I can just eat until I'm full either-
tho I have yet to see an exact limit- I'm guessing it's 1 or 2 per day until the protein requirement
has been met for the day.
I was scared to death that I wouldn't like the protein- especially Isopure made me ill when I tried it months
ago- but I was pleasantly surprised that my unjury vanilla powder tastes great in yogurt.
I'm sure there are many different pre op diet plans - so it would be interesting to see what other people
are doing- and it's really best to do what your specific surgeons directs - because each is different.
*High protein... right?

...and again rude.
Get off the cross, someone might need the wood...

For being rude. People come here for support and not to be judged. I apologize about my first post, as you see I amended it. I shouldn't have mentioned your name. But, seriously, there was no reason for those responses.
'
I was supportive and helpful and she didn't like the answers I had for her, just like she didn't like the requirements that Kaiser had for her to get surgery through them. I will not apologize for being truthful, no matter how rude you think I was, that's your problem.

FluffyChick, you need to apololgize. It is not up to you or anyone else to judge what anothers decision is on how to go about their journey. There was no reason to be rude or obnoxious. If I could have, I would have self payed too and not jumped through the hoops. Most insurances put those hoops in place so that you will give up and not pursue the surgery. Maybe then I wouldnt have had to wait for a year to get my surgery done. We pay for insurance to take care of what we need done medically. TigerLily needs to call and find out for sure if she is covered for after care if there is a problem, of course, but you being mean and nasty does nothing for anyone but make yourself feel better. My Mom had a saying that if you have nothing nice or constructive to say, dont say anything at all.
TigerLily, I am with you, if they wont cover you, and you can switch, then by all means switch.
Apologize for being honest and stating facts??.

I jsut sent Fitday and email asking these questions. I wan tto be able to use an online program no matter what computer I happen to be on, where I can track daily calories, foods eaten, exercise, meds, etc.. I appreciate your help.
really ? I don't know... I have been with them for years.

Hey, thanks,
I am looking at it online right now. It says the download is $29.95- does that mean that is the only fee I will pay? So, it's not like you are going to a website that just saves the info? boy what a learning curve!
I use the free version.

It's not personal, but you are right, I have attitude because you chose to take a shortcut to get what you wanted and now you are complaining because that shortcut is causing you problems and now you EXPECT Kaiser to clean up some else's mess... Did you even consult with Kaiser about getting surgery elsewhere and if you did, would they give you aftercare? I DID. Why isn't YOUR surgeon giving you the proper aftercare???
If you would have "jumped through a few hoops" you would be better informed and you would have all the aftercare you you needed. You would have a food plan to follow, support groups to attend, and a case nurse at your beck and call if problems arose.
-
Why are you getting snarky? It's not personal for you.
Yeah, actually I do.
If I were to seek plastic surgery, it WOULDN'T be through Kaiser. If I had complications or got an infection I would want Kaiser to treat it. Seems pretty logical to me.

Do you ever wish you would have had the RNY instead of the sleeve?
-
I have had this issue my whole life... mineral oil enemas do the trick for me.
-
Okay, now I am really confused about the Kaiser thing???
I have one - yes they will cover and one - no they wont.
I decided to bite the bullet and call Membership Services. They are closed today in observance of the holiday.
If they wont cover me for this surgery than what good are they to me as an insurance company?
We will be in open enrollment next month and I may just need to change companies.
I am sure once Membership Services realizes the chunk of change they will be loosing.....I cover a family of four through my work as well as my husband. We have double coverage.
wow... "if they won't cover this surgery what good are they?" You were the one who chose to not "jump through Kaisers hoops" now you want them to give you aftercare on a surgery they did not perform. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT...

This is my first post. I was sleeved on 8/25 in Mexicali, Mexico. As I type I am weeping over what have I done to myself? For someone that was overweight, I was in really good health. Really good. No HB, sleep apnea or anything.
I am miserable. I hurt, I am tired, my kidneys hurt, I am constantly thirsty and though I am not physically hungry, it is soooo hard to make meals for the family. I went for a short tripto the grocery store with my daughter yesterday to pick up "full liquids" that started today and I was completely exhausted.
The incision above my belly button is all healed closed, but is so sore! It feels like it is tacked down to something inside and pulls. It's also hard. My drain hole is still open and oozes after a shower. I keep gauze over it Amd it's also sore if I press on it. It is also a bit pink around the edges but not warm to the touch. I am not running a fever or anything.
I start with my Water at 4:30am and sip all day long. I get about 84oz of Water a day, but an still constantly thirsty. Nothing at all tastes or smells good. I bought all these different flavors of crystal light and the all taste terrible. Every sip I take stays in my esophagus for a while.
I am scared my insurance will deny covering me as I didn't get the proceedure through them? It's Kaiser and I know they do the sleeve, but I didn't want to jump through their hoops. My hubby assures my they can't do that. It would be like having plastic surgery done and God Forbid a
complication arose they would deny me.
I've only dropped 6lbs since my surgery and and feeling I made the worst decision of my life. PLEASE tell me everything will be alright and things will get better.
I sorry I such a bummer!! I am scared and sad.
I am with Kaiser too. I am jumping through all their hoops because of this exact reason !! My pcp warned me... "Do not go out of house for surgery because Kaiser will not cover any aftercare". You are still healing, so take it easy and rest. Stop trying to make everything happen at such a fast pace. Stay on full liquids for a couple weeks, then creamed Soups for a couple weeks and then pureed soft foods for a couple of weeks. Take gradual baby steps and give yourself time to heal. Remember, you had a lot of water weight after surgery, so you weighed more when you came out than when you went in... give yourself a break. you did not gain this weight over night and you will not lose it over night.

From what I have read, this is VERY common after wls. It will settle back to it's regular schedule after a few months.

I use fitday.com

I feel blessed in this area... my boss's wife had the surgery last year and he has been really open and honest about the whole thing with me anyway... I feel absolutely comfortable talking about my journey with him and asking for the time off. I guess I lucked out in this department.

How much weight did you lose pre op? Was it a specific required amount ? How long were you on your pre op diet and what did it consist of ???

Hi Kim, Are you a Kaiser patient by any chance? Your pre op requirements sound similar to mine. Welcome to the journey !!!
