  1. I did it alone and I prefered it that way. No one for me to worry about being bored as I slept. I was able to concentrate on me which was good. I would say pack really light and if you can have your luggage with wheels so that it makes it easier to pull. Other than that you are stronger than you may think. Plus you will meet other people having the same surgery who you can talk with if you so feel inclined to do.

I forgot to post last week so it looks like I had a really big loss, which I didnt. But I am still losing just a little slower than before. I do not think I will make the labour day challenge but I am going to get as close as I can.

Labour day is around the corner and I will not make my final goal weight. Good news is I am still losing so that is a positive. Onward and downward!

  3. Well I had an insatiable appetite. I would eat till bursting and then an hour later I would eat more. And it was not always junk food. I could gorge on meat and potatoes, rice you name it I probably ate way more than a normal person should eat. I would think about food most of the time, preplanning what I was going to eat for my next meal or the meals the next day.

I was sleeved almost 6 months ago. I eat 4 times a day and on occasion have a small evening snack. All my meals are small and very satisfying. I do not think about food all the time like what am I going to eat for supper (you know what I mean). Now I live I drink plenty of Fluid and my body loves me for it. I have been slowing down with my weight loss lately (lose1-3 lbs a week vs my 5 lbs a week). I knew it was going to come and now I am figuring out a work out schedule (as I still have not started any major exercise yet). I do walk and I can run up the stairs now but I need to get in more exercise.

That being said I am past the hunger. I know what feeling full means and not wanting another bit of food for several hours. I am happy that I self payed and got the sleeve. I will be successful at getting to goal and keeping the weight off.

Congratulations on starting your journey to a healthier new you.

  4. I went by myself there was another person in the van but he was not a social person. He took off the instant we got to the hotel. So I ate alone in the downstairs diner. It was an enjoyable meal and yes it would have been nice to have someone to talk to but I did come alone. At the hospital there were people that came the day after me and I got to talk with them (they were much nicer and sociable :D ). I stayed an extra day at the hotel (already planned as I could not get a flight on my discharge day) and rode back to San Diego with them.

Just go room to room and introduce yourself.

Slow and steady but hoping now that I am doing Diva's 30 day challenge that I may lose a bit more than my 2 to 3 lbs per week. Keeping my hopes up!

  6. Have you been prescribed a PPI for your GERD? If so you may need to change types if it is not working.

Sounds like you are expending a lot of calories and not bringing in too much. So your body is probably in starvation mode. I found the first 2 months were a guessing game as to how much exercise and how many calories and my Water intake to optimize my weight loss. Now that I am further out things are slowing down a bit and I will have to readjust again to boost my weight loss.

  7. I had a high BMI and doing really great with the sleeve. I wanted the sleeve vs the bypass because I did not want problems with eating certain foods or having to take a million Vitamins and minerals the rest of my life. Plus no being able to take certain kinds of drugs.

I love my sleeve and know that I will be able to maintain my weightloss.

Note: if you check SammyNYC post the signature line has the date of surgery posted as 11/23/2010

  8. I think I was in the same boat for a while at 2 weeks out. I tried to see how I could boost my calories as I could barely get in 400. As time progressed it got easier. I would say for the interum it is ok but for the long haul you would not want to be at that amount of calories. As yes it will do harm to your body over time. Take it easy and try to slowly build your calories up. You will notice that your energy will be low on that low of calories.

  9. Help!!! I am only 4 weeks out from my band to sleeve revision and I can eat anything and everything. I feel hunger all the time, and started my nexium after reading on here that it helps. When will that kick in. I reread my paperwork and I am only supposed to be able to eat 1/4 cup of food 4x a day... I am eating at least 1 full cup at a sitting. This is so different from the band, I almost crave that "one bite too many" feeling back.. I feel like a failure.. have I stretched my new stomach out already... what am I to do?

Just a note your nerves in your stomach have been cut and you will NOT feel a full signal for the first while. It takes a bit to feel it. So please measure your food and only eat the recommended portion your doctor or nut wants you to eat. You do not want to over eat and cause a leak.

About the PPI I have heard several people talk about nexium not working for them. I was prescribed prilosec 20 mg (omeprazole is the generic name). And it works great for me. Try to get your PPI changed and it should hopefully help with the hunger. The first while is a real learning curve on figuring out how to eat drink etc...

  10. I only confided my surgery to my personal doctor here and all of the people on this forum. Other than that I went to Mexico by myself and left a note as Foxbins did in case something happened. When I got home I told my immediate family and told them it was to go no further than them. I have family and friends that are real horrible gossips so I will not provide the fodder for their gossip.

It is personal preference for each and every person.

  11. What did your doctor recommend? I was eating approx 2 - 4 oz of food (depended on the thickness of the food). I think I ate 3 times a day with 2 Snacks (it has been so long since I was at that stage).

Mushy foods are foods that you can mush to applesauce consistency with a fork.

Scrambled eggs, black Beans, hot Cereal (cream of wheat), mashed potatoes, cottage cheese, tuna fish with mayo, yoghurt, soft cheese, soft poached fish. And get in all your clear and full liquids.

Try to contact your doctor and see what he/she recommends as the different types of foods and how much you should be eating. Make sure you get your Water in as well.

  12. Did not tell a soul. Well except for my personal doctor and she was very supportive, and all of you my loving sleeve family. I did however tell my immediate family within a week of returning from Mexico what I had done. They are now very supportive of my progress.

I however will not be telling anyone else as it is not their business. I just do not want the talking behind my back or even worse to my face with their ignorance. To protect my mental health I will not share with anyone else.

  13. I had it too. It will resolve in a couple of weeks. I can not remember exactly what causes it and I am not going to make and uneducated guess. All I know is I had it and it took awhile but now it is all gone.

    Congratulations on starting your journey!
