  1. Hi Lily,

Thanks for the info, I'm still on the fence, but leaning towards getting it done, just a little scared of being miserable after it's done, I love to eat and drink, but that's what got me here. Good to hear it worked out for you. were you happy with Dr.Aceves?

Yes I was very pleased with Dr. Aceves and would recommend him to anyone. I loved to eat and drink as well but now I am satisfied with what I eat and drink. I also have to say I went out drinking with a few friends this weekend and I enjoyed a few bevies.

Yah you really need to weigh the pros and cons for you. I was ready to go for smaller portions as I was getting out of control. Now I eat anything I like but in a small portion.

Keep us posted on your decison. Either way we will all support you.

  2. Dwayne I am also from Edmonton and got the sleeve done by Dr. Aceves back in February. It took me two years of debating with myself before I finally went through with it. I even made one last attempt at losing the weight by better food choices and exercising. It worked for awhile but then the pounds came back on with a bit more. That was when I made the decision to go through with it.

At first I was shocked at how little the amount of food I needed/wanted and the weight loss that I was achieving. I am almost 7 months out now and can eat more than when first sleeved. Depending on the density of the food I can eat a normal portion of less dense food (fish) but a small portion of more dense food (steak and chicken). There are slider foods for me (mashed potatoes) that I try to avoid right now as I could eat more than I should at this point in my weightloss.

Basically you need to sit down and decide if this is what you truly want/need. Once it is done there is no going back. I would do everything the same if I had another chance at this (maybe I would have gotten the sleeve sooner rather than later). I am living my life now and thank the lord that I was able to come to the right decision for me.

  3. I agree that everyone should decide whether they want to tell or not.

However since most of us can't maintain weight loss by cutting carbs, exercising and increasing Water intake alone, people will eventually figure out they were not told the whole truth.

I am not trying to convince anyone to tell or not or insult Autumn Lily. Each person should do whatever they want. My point here is to state that in my opinion people will know, will talk and will think they were lied to.

I could care less if people think I lied to them. My personal life is mine to share with whom ever I want. If they cant handle that then they are not worth having as friends in the first place. I would rather be around one true person than a hundred fake ones. The ignorant people are usually so close minded that even explaining anything to them is at a loss. Life is much easier if I just live it my way.

  4. I always like the honest answers. Why would you lie? Are you ashamed ? The reality is, when they see the weight dropping off, they are going to "talk" and come up with the truth all by themselves, no matter what you say.. People are not stupid. I say be honest !! WLS is nothing to be ashamed of and your experience could possibly help someone else. What if everyone on this board "lied"? We would never get the help we searched for.....

I have never lied. People ask me how I am losing the weight and I say cutting down on carbs and exercising. Increasing my Water. NOT one person has said did you have WLS to me. There is no shame in this what I am avoiding is ignorance from others. I have put up with the ignorance towards me my whole life. Keeping this to myself is for self preservation and nothing to do with shame. I have every right to tell whom I want to when I want to and how I want to. If you want to shout it from the roof tops I say go ahead. But please respect everyone else who does not want to share. Some of us are a lot more careful in what we share with the world.

  5. I know in the beginning (right after being sleeved) my periods were HELL!!!!! Pre op I used to get them randomly every 35 to 50 days. Now I am at 28 to 31 days and it is crazy the clots I am getting. It has however gotten better over the last month or so. You can contact your gyny and see but it just might be the hormones that are being released from your fat cells. (Estrogen gets trapped in fat when you lose the weight it is released). But if you are really worried it is best to check with either your PCP or Gyn doc.

I think a miracle would have to happen between now and next Monday for me to lose 10.8 lbs. But hey I am gonna try my darn hardest to get to my goal as I possibly can!

Hey I had a good week but alas I did not make my goal. I probably would have made it if I did not have that month were I was eating a lot of carbs. I am back off the carb monster and will set a new Halloween goal.

On the bright side I did make my short term goal of getting out of the 40 BMI and am officially in the 30 BMI. Whooot whooot.

  7. The difference with the sleeve is when you are all healed and back on full foods you can technically eat anything you want. Just in smaller portions. If I want pizza I have a slice and I am satisfied. I do not want to have any major carbs till I am in maintenence so I will avoid these foods till I get there.

You really do need to make sure this is what you want. Once its done there is no turning back. Hope you can find the answer as only you can make this decision.

I have to say I do not have buyers remorse as Yes I could have lost some of the weight on my own. The problem has always been keeping it off after losing it. I enjoy eating food and only having a small portion of it.

  8. How long does it take to get a surgery date from the time you contact their website?

and what kind of requirements do they have? thank you!

I booked my surgery several months in advance (I wanted a specific date) but I think they had openings within a month or two at the time I was booking. Best to contact them and see where they are booking right now. It doesnt hurt to ask them.

  9. Just say you are not up to going for a walk for a couple of days. No lie in that and I agree with itscometothis you should not feel pressured to have to share this surgery with anyone that you do not want to.

I have kept mine secret with the exception of my immediate family. For me this is how it has to be. For others they may want to shout from the roof tops and I applaude them that the life they have allows for the openness. You are no less of a friend if you do not want to share anything personal. I am sure she has some secret she has never told you.

Labour day is around the corner and I will not make my final goal weight. Good news is I am still losing so that is a positive. Onward and downward!

  11. Hey guys

Thanks for the feedback. I don't know really. For myself i tried eating a serving of Jello really fast (4oz) and the only thing i got was pressure and a feeling like allot of gas is being misplaced and then burping with a tiny bit of gas pain. I don't feel as hungry anymore but i still have the occasional head hunger craving for a good steak. But honestly im worried i wont feel full and can just keep eating like before. I don't drink when i eat anyway so ill just have to wait and see in a few weeks time when im back to solids.

I have my next appointment tomorrow to get the stitches out so ill ask my doctor as well :)

Your nerves have been cut and it will take awhile to feel a full sensation. Try not to push it as you could cause undue stress to your staple line and then possibly cause a leak. Just have your recommended amounts of liquids and soon enough you will know what it feels like. I felt the same way in the beginning I thought did I really get a sleeve. Well when my nerves healed I knew quickly that Yes I did get a sleeve.
