    Husband problems

Mysticstars post prompted me to write. I've been reading your post since it started and wanted to tell you to leave the **$$%%%!!!! but it is a decision no-one can make for you. Only you know how bad things are and only you can decide what would be the best course of action. Friends gave me advice all the time but in the end I had to make the decision for myself. I was married to a bully for 15 years and had small children and very overweight. He made fun of me constantly. I lost my mum and went through a very bad time with no support from him. Met up with an old sweetheart and started to meet him [purely as a friend] - my self esteem suddenly came back and I lost 56lbs. My prick of a husband stopped me in the kitchen one day and said "mmmmm I think I'll start f***ing you again now you're thin" - Needless to say he didn't, I dumped him and went on to marry my sweetheart [we Celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary the week after next] Unfortunately I am struggling with that ol' weight problem again but my band is being fitted Sunday. Do it - but do it for yourself - you can't stay with someone who constantly tortures you mentally - who the hell does he think he is.

    HELP! I'm losing my hair!

Hi hair loss has never been mentioned to me and this is the first time I have seen it mentioned. I might have not had it done if I'd known. I have nightmares about losing my hair [as I mentioned it is very fine already] It really does terrify me. I am in the UK - you have to be an extreme case to have the band on NHS. Even though I am 'only' 163 lbs I am only 4ft 11ins tall, have problems with hips and knees and have high blood pressure. I am going to private clinic to have the procedure so yes self pay. Not a lot of people in the UK have health insurance because we have the NHS. As you say not sure that private health insurance would cover this anyway unless you were extremely overweight. I am still classed as obese as I have a BMI of over 30

    HELP! I'm losing my hair!

This post has really, really worried me. I have been taken Atenolol for high blood pressure for the past couple of years and have hair loss with it. One of the reasons I want the band is to lose the weight, get the blood pressure under control and come off the tablets and stop the hair loss. No one told me that you could lose your hair with the band. It has really worried me as I have really, really thin hair to start with. I take Nourkrin which seems to have helped. Terrified of losing my hair.

    No Pre-Op diet??

My op is scheduled for next Sunday 11 March and I had to start a pre-op diet 10 days before. I was given vanilla and strawberry shakes and chicken and herb soup - they are all so tasty so not finding it too hard. Can have fruit and veges too. I have a low BMI but I was told that the pre-op shrinks the liver so easier to operate and also quicker recovery. Amazing how you can stick to strict diet when you know you have to for surgery.

    Day 3 pre-op Saturday

Saturday - Had a strawberry shake with fresh strawberries for breakfast. Lunch had Chicken soup and some steamed veges. Mid afternoon - vanilla shake Evening meal - steamed brocolli, sprouts and carrots. Feeling really pleased - funny knowing you HAVE to do this pre op makes you stick to it. I thought last night - so why can't you stick to a strict diet like this all the time??????? Supposed to have four shakes and two soups - along with 5 portions of fruit or veg. Stuggling to fit in all of the soups and shakes.

  17. Hi Having my surgery done by Dr David Ashton in Manchester along with two other surgeons [telemetric specialists] on 11th March. Started my pre-op this morning but as I love smoothies anyway it's no problem. As you may have read in other posts I had the gastric balloon for 6 months end of 2005 to March 2006 and lost about 14 kilos which is about 30 lbs but have regained about 7 kilos [over 14lbs] at an alarming rate and think I'm going to end up heavier than when I started. Have been on and off diets for years but always eat fairly healthily all of the time but just keep gaining the weight. Great to see a post specially for us UK bandsters.

When you break it down like that it looks like a fantastic saving. But I would have double the flights and hotel room as I would want hubby to go with me. Also I didn't know how many 'fills' were needed. The band I'm having isn't filled as such it is adjusted electronically. And how long will you actually be away? Are you in hospital overnight or two nights? I will be going Sunday morning and will be home by Monday lunch [hopefully] - I run my own business and just need to be away for as little time as possible. I run from home so I can recover plenty at home but need to be near my phone and computer. Can't afford to lose business with this to pay for!!!!!

Yes they are - they are called Weight to Go. Absolutely delicious I have to say. Imagined that they would be really bland. Did fine yesterday and didn't even manage to fit in the allocated amount of shakes and soups. Had a vanilla shake with a banana added for Breakfast, a chicken and herb Soup for lunch. Later made one of the shakes with more Water and added a spoonful of coffee granules so made like a thick coffee drink. Had a load of steamed vegetabled for evening meal and then made one of the strawberry shakes with very little water and added raspberries and blueberries to make a dessert type thing [found this very very sweet though] So first day went very well. Having surgery in Manchester with Mr Ashton and two other surgeons - sorry can't remember their names without going to get my papers out. I thought of going abroad but just thought that you still have to pay for everything else including fills/adjustments or any other consults so figured it was just as well to pay and have everything included.

Yes - Consultation, shakes and soups for the pre-op diet, the 'op', adjustments for the next 12 months, soluble Vitamins, support all included. I was like that with another group when I had my gastic balloon. The girl who sat and talked with me for about 3 hours before I had it done left the company within a week of me having it done. No one told me or contacted me so I was phoning all over to try to find out what was going on. Yes once they get their mitts on your hard earned cash ...........

I haven't been told what I can eat or not eat after the op but I assume it will be liquids, Soups, smoothies. I started my pre-op this morning for 10 days - all provided, milk shakes and soups - all delicious too. I have a low BMI 32 but I was told about shrinking the liver so that it is easier for the surgeon to operate but also recovery is quicker so gotta stick to it. Annieggs where are you having your op done??
  23. Ah but my surgeon wasn't saying that the band was "better" - he was saying it is exactly the same, has the same effect, works the same way everything. The only thing which is different is that the adjustments can be made to a millimetre because they are done electronically with the computer so is more accurate. He wasn't 'hyping' it at all - in fact he told me 'over the next couple of weeks have a really good think about it - you can choose which one you have right up to surgery' I just personally think that there is no risk of port infection and that alone makes it worth it.
  24. I am having the telemetric easyband fitted 11th March. I had the gastric balloon fitted november 2005 and was doing really well with the weight loss. Had about 20 lbs to lose. The balloon [bib] can only stay in for 6 months and so it had to come out March 2006. I have now regained about 18 lbs and still gaining. That is why I wanted something permanent. Can't imagine ever wanting it taken out once the band is in place and I have lost the weight hopefully for good.
  25. I am having the easyband fitted 11th March. I was told by the surgeon that it was my decision because they only have about a years data on it. They are hoping in the future that adjustments will be able to be made over the telephone. [obviously there are no 'fills' as such - no saline in the band as it is adjusted electronically] I saw him just over a week ago and he said that I could change my mind at any time up to the op if I wanted to go with the usual lapband. I still think the easyband is the way to go as I am sure it is the future and more people will want the freedom from needles and port infections etc.,etc.
