Yes, you can ask and google. There are quite a few foods that cause absorption problems, including the following:
VEGETABLES
- BROCCOLI
- BRUSSEL SPROUTS
- CABBAGE
- CASSAVA ROOT
- CAULIFLOWER
- KALE
- MUSTARD GREENS
- RADISHES
- RUTABAGAS
- SPINACH
- TURNIPS
FRUITS
- STRAWBERRIES
- PEACHES
- PEARS
LEGUMES/SEEDS/GRAINS
- MILLET
- SOYBEANS
- PEANUTS
- PINENUTS
OILS
- CANOLA
you can also google some more.
Its not like you WILL DIE OR YOUR THYROID WILL SHUT DOWN IF YOU EAT THEM, but then again, you want to lose weight right? Then you need to keep your thyroid working at it's best.
This is just mere google-ing. But I have talked to my doctor about it too.
-
Humm, I don't know about those symptoms but I sure know you can't take any of the acid reducers for the next 4 hours after you take your thyroid meds. I take mine at 7:30 and have my Prilosec 4 hours later. Same thing with Calcium and Iron supplements. They cause absorption problems if you have them less than 3 or 4 hours after your thyroid med.
Hope it helps...

My doctor did not say this, but just so you know, Calcium and Iron supplements must be taken at least 4 hours after taking your THYROID medication. Also with antacids. I just recently discovered that and now understand why I wasn't losing as much. I had been taking my Prilosec WITH MY THYROID PILL!!

Hello Eddie! Welcome to the Florida sleevers!
-
Oh my God! Can I get some of that cake too??? LOL
-
It will come off, something similar happened to me last week, I put on 2 pounds and lost them the next day. I stayed on Proteins and low low carbs the day after. From what I understand, since Protein is metabolized a lot slower than the carbs you had the night before, your body will try to use whatever calories you still have in your system from the bruschettas and then start using the protein.
Let me know what happens tomorrow.

You can do it for sure! Just don't over do it.

Lol Congrats! @sleeveigirl-Tx Did you do anything special to break it?
-
Hi my fellow sleevers! I thought this was very important to share since it broke my 6 day stall. I understand that people have different diets according to the doctor who sleeved you, but I think your body also plays a great part in this stall. So you need to listen to it.
My doctor's daily diet for me was the following:
scrambled egg white (I use eggbeaters) with any veggies
fruit in mid morning
chicken or fish for lunch with a little portion of veggies or lentil/ beans/ chickpeas Soup
yogurt at mid-afternoon
4 oz of Protein shake for dinner
another fruit 2 hours before bed
I did this to the T and it wasn't working. I had lost 9.8 pounds my first week and only 2 pounds my second week. Now I was stalling. I had read everyone's posts and was ready to go back to my liquid diet as one of our sleeved guys suggested (his dr. or nurse had told him to do that when stalling). But then I remembered that back in the day when the "anti-diet" came along (eat lots fruit only before 2 pm, amongst other rules) and I tried it, I hadn't lost any weight. Every diet I went on that involved too many fruits never worked for me.
So, I did what usually worked for me. All Protein, all day.
I had 3 turkey pastrami slices (they are really small) with a tablespoon of hummus (it only has about 4 carbs) instead of my Snacks and dinner.< /p>
AND VOILA! I lost 1 pound each day that I did this and broke my stall.
I do plan on telling my doctor. But I thought I'd share it with you first. I don't know what he'll say. Maybe you should talk to yours before you try this if you want to try it, but I doubt eating all protein all day is bad for you (if you are having your Vitamins and minerals, etc.).
HOPE IT HELPS!

Very inspirational! I think I will set my self a goal of getting into mine too. Although I was just 45 pounds lighter than now. I wasn't thin at all. You look so beautiful and joyful!

supermom, can you specify the amounts you are eating. I am not sure I'm eating enough.

Hey sweetie, cheer up, change your habits and definitevely kick out the alcohol. It really isn't good for your tiny little stomach. I suggest you keep a food diary and write EVERYTHING on it, even the stuff you shouldn't have had. Try to switch up a few things here and there (things you are permitted to eat), avoid carbs. Are you exercising? Try walking. The endorphins are sure to cheer you up and the weight will start coming off.
you can do it. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

That's awesome Nancy! I'm on week 2, maybe we can be buddies and help each other out. I lost 9.8 my first week. Woo-hoo!
Don't you just love your sleeve?
-
Thanks DivaDee! =) I lost 9.8 pounds the first week and just figured I'd be like all the people on youtube and lose 5-7 the second week. I am doing everything correctly so I guess I'll just have to wait. I haven't started exercising because one of my "wounds" hasn't healed completely, but I will next week and I hope that makes a difference.
How far ahead are you?
-
Great job! What an inspiration!!

Oh my Gosh! This forum is a life saver =) I was so sad this morning, this is my second week post op and I've done everything correctly and have only lost 2 pounds this week. I'll take the two pounds, don't get me wrong, but I've been watching youtube videos and everyone seems to lose around 6-8 the second week. =(
I hope I do start losing some serious weight this next week.

I had a band done 10 years ago and just got sleeved (10 days ago). My doctor informed me there was a lot of fybrosis (I think that's what it is called) but he successfully removed the band and got the sleeve done. He did the leak test during the operation So far, there hasn't been any problem at all.
My doctor gave me a week and 3 days of clear or almost clear liquid diet. I just started eating Beans, egg, yogurt, etc. So far it's been great. I do take esoprax every morning to avoid reflux, etc.
My best advice to you would be: this is something you are doing to yourself, it's not a favor the doctor is doing for you, it's your life, plus it's not free. So talk to other people your doctor has "revised" or get a doctor that makes you feel better. In the end, it is your precious life that's at stake.
Hope it helps,
Maraki

Hello Florida Sleevers!
I just got sleeved one week ago, I started at 297.4 and so far I am down 9.8 pounds. Yay!
I'm glad to have found this place and to find other sleevers.
Support is crucial.
Does anyone know of any in-person support groups in the Miami area?

in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Posted
Courtines, from my experience I have found that even those who love you will ask if you have thought about doing it the "old fashioned way". But from what I hear, this person you were talking to said it in a mean way. What I have noticed is that some people think you will automatically lose weight because you had the surgery done, and well, it isn't so.
If you see the posts from fellow sleevers you will see that there are stalls, and problems with what you eat, and that you need to exercise. So what I tell people is that the operation is a tool that helps manage a very important aspect of the problem. It is not an automatic solution.
Besides, why would you do it the old fashioned way if there are some better options out there?
