    Restriction- What Do You Mean?

I guess its the same for me. I can eat what I want minus bread because it just doesnt go me at all. I just stop when I feel it is a portion. I dont do any of those aweful things either. Some things dont go down well and I avoid them but basically I can eat what I want I just dont eat a lot anymore. I wouldnt say they are should be looking for restriction because there is a hole still there and a bottom stomach that still works and food no matter how tight your band is still goes through that hole it just might take longer. Im happy with three meals a day and no snacks thats my choice. But I eat when Im hungry and that means stomach growling not just feeling empty.

    Still hungry

I wouldnt be so quick to use oatmeal or beans this soon in the game to much carbs. I would stick to whatever protein you can and leave the carbs alone for now until you adjust to the eating meat. Just my opinion.

    To unfill or not??? Scared....

That would be a question for your doctor I dont see why you would need to have an unfill just for surgery unless you need more calories after but ask your doctor

    Trying My Darnest!!

I would definitely dont do starbucks and maybe have protein in the morning instead of oatmeal its so many carbs to start off your day. Have some eggs or a shake it would be better.

    Having a bad day

We all have moments, days, hours, its all a trial and error. You cant beat your self up because you gain 1.5lbs it might just be water retention. Just do liquids like they said and upgrade to soft foods in a couple days. We all have days its part of the process. Chin up. You can do it.
  6. Thats almost as bad as the idiot that posted pictures on here of how to fill your own band. Because some insane person will do it.

    HUNGRY after 1st fill

I understand that you all are hungry but I want to know why you dont think you will be hungry? Im not being smart about it either I just want to know why everyone thinks they wont ever be hungry. Your body even with a full band will get hungry because that is what your stomach is meant to do. You may eat less and stay full longer but you will get hungry. I dont understand it. Maybe you all can help me understand it. If your surgeon gave you the correct information you would know that you are going to be hungry. The band does not stop hunger it only keeps you fuller longer once you reach your right fill amount your hunger will be there just not as much. Unfortunately you have to be on liquids after a fill to rest your stomach so you are going to be hungry.
  8. Sorry for all your trouble but I can tell you that working in surgery that your time in the hospital starts from the time you go to the floor not from the time your surgery starts. That is not counted in that time so you figure 1 hour in surgery and 1 hour in pacu would leave you at less that 23 hours as an inpatient. They dont count the time before, during and in pacu because you are not admitted til you get to your room.

    Lap Band 1/17/11 Male 300pds

I spent three days post op in the hospital because of this pain. Everytime I got it I would have dry heeves. It will get better but still see your doctor just in case. I know you must be scared but it will get better. I would just take the pain meds and rest your stomach. You should have only been on clear liquids today and no shakes yet. Just take your meds and rest your stomach it will get better and make sure you keep your appointment. tomorrow. Take care and good luck

    Pack my bag for me!

How long are you staying? Overnight 23 hours or a couple of days? I wouldnt take too much if your coming home the next day except something to read, your own PJ's and toiletries. If your just getting banded you proably will be on a liquid diet or so after surgery so I wouldnt take any thing to drink because you dont know what they will want you to have.

    Tired of being miserable

Well I dont know what to tell you here except Im sorry you are having such a hard time. Unless you are having some signs of medical necessity I dont think the insurance companies will just take it out that easily. Even at two years post op Im not sure unless you are having medical issues with the band its self will they pay to have it taken out. I would first start by calling your insurance company and asking them what their rules are in band removal before you approach your doctor. Maybe they can guide you of even finding a new doctor that would be better for you.

    Slowed Momentum

Start back a couple days on your post op diet of protein shakes and liquids that helps me when I get off track. If your working do it on the weekend or whatever your days off are then increase your diet over a period of three to four days after two to three days of liquids. Might help you
  13. I take them whole I dont crush them. Sometimes certain things will become sensitive to your stomach after banding so thats why I dont take it anymore.

    Nurses

As caregivers we only think of others. My weight was surely affecting my ability to do my job especially standing on my feet for 12 hours and working in rehab, then surgery. I think knowledge plays a big part of it as well because we know all the risk associated with the surgeries but yes we for the most part eat unhealthy because there is barely time in a 12hour shift to sit for 30 minutes and eat healthy food. Its easier to grab cookies that patients brought to you or candy or all the crap that is always sitting at the nurses station then to pack lunch or eat horrid hospital food. I would say that over the years the sweets took a toll on me for the most part because it was just easier to grab then actually sit down and eat when there wasnt enough time to eat. A doughnut was better than having nothing I thought at that time.

    Still hate my band

Unfortunately there are a percentage that dont lose weight with the band and that is the sad part. You have done nothing wrong and if I were you I would either have it taken out and maybe consider the sleeve or just have it removed. You did all you can do and thats what counts. I would say just do what your heart tells you too. Some days Im surely not happy with my band but not about losng weight but eating has become a chore since my fill trying to find things and not eat the same thing every single day. Its not that it gets stuck but there are so many things I cant eat and Im really tired of just barely eating enough calories to live. I am happy with my weight loss but some days its hard to fathom that I really have to eat like this for whatever time I have left on earth. Yes I love being healthy but a darn piece of pizza would surely be nice once in a while but I in no way can eat any kind of bread. It is a big decision and no one should take it lightly. Hope you find peace girl.

    Left Shoulder Pain

I have had chronic shoulder pain for over a year. Some people just have it forever. Its the band pushing on the nerve in the stomach and sometimes it may be caused by over eating. Try eating a little less and see if this helps. It depends on what and how much I eat that determines the serverity. But it is tolerable most of the time when its not I put a heating pad on it and it relieves it somewhat.
  17. I use spark people and I count every single thing I put in my mouth down to a piece of sugar free candy. Keeps me accountable for everything I eat every single day. I log all my calories in the morning because I plan my day of food every single day to see how many calories Im eating. Usually I try to stay under 1000 sometimes I go over but its okay. I only eat what I can since my only fill of 2 cc's in a year I can only eat a little at one meal.
  18. Hair loss sometimes occurs even when eating enough protein I had it for a few months then started taking hair skin and nails from GNC and it worked for me. If you have a lot ot lose sagging skin is not an option unless you are young and have good skin tone. But it is going to happen. You have to give up some things in order for results. As long as I can cover it up with clothes until I can get a tummy tuck Im not worrying about it at all.

    Wine

Could it be worse than the pain meds? Seriously? You are four days post op and want to drink alcohol? Apparently no classes, surgery or all the crap you have gone through is enough to say no I wont drink because its not that it will hurt the band but it will hurt your weight loss in the worst way. Empty calories mean less weight loss. Try consentrating on why you had the surgery and not why a glass of wine should be counted as liquid. What in the world are you seriously thinking. You know what your doctor is going to tell you even next friday? If he is a great surgeon he is going to tell you hell no about alcohol. You are way to new post op to be thinking about something you shouldnt. Just saying but the ultimate decision will be yours of course.

    Post-Op Vomitting

most people having bariatric surgeries will experience nausea after surgery it is quite common. You may or may not. But they will give you something for it if it occurs.
  21. Every single day will be a fight for all of us. We didnt get fat because we made great food choices, were couch potatoes and ate probably 3 to 4,000 calories a day. I stay under 1,000 no matter what. My weight loss has be at a stand still for 6 months but I have to say I am not gaining and that is fine. I have to find happiness in what I have done not the fact that it might come back. Sure its a possibility but we all never came this far to go back now did we. Good thoughts only.
  22. Ok Im going to break it as gently to the new folks as I can. YOU ARE GOING TO BE HUNGRY. If you are never hungry you would be skinny. Just because you get banded does not in any way shape or form take away your hunger. Even after fills you will be hungry. Your stomach is still there and when its empty you are going to be hungry. Over and over I see this post and it is just plain and simple you are going to be hungry. Please make a note of it. People wonder why old bandsters stop posting or leave the site its because everyone keeps asking the same questions over and over again. Your going to have gas, pain, hunger, shoulder pain, a runny nose, hiccups, gas may never go away. It is a diet forever forever forever. You can not eat whatever you want and lose weight just like with every single diet we all tried before the band. Who knows when you will get restriction. You may never but measure your food and know its enough. You dont need a whole plate of food to satisfy hunger. Write down every single thing you eat all day and drink drink drink.

    Weight Watchers help

I would talk to your doctor about that. In my opinion WLS should not be started with weight watchers especially being so newly banded. Maybe as time goes by yes but I would follow the diet your doctor gave you for now at least for the first six months to a year before I would go to WW
  24. cheryl2586

    Burning

No but I would tell your doctor. It doesnt mean your not havng reflux that is a possibility. Call your doctor
