    Double Minded /Confused

All surgeries can have complications even something as simple as toe surgery can end up in big complications. Whenever you are put under anesthesia you are at risk for complications. The benefits far out weigh the risks.

    Month one plateau

It is not considered a stall unless it is more then 6 to 8 weeks. There will be months you will not lose at all you just have to be patient and stay off the scale. If you keep weighing yourself and it doesn't move you are just setting yourself up for disappointment.

So this is what green fells like?

You are probably in the green however you have to keep up your nutrition or you will be come Vitamin deficient and all the other things that go with not eating. Try to eat healthy things at least four times a day. Because you can't just not eat.
  4. When you have universal healthcare those surgeries including knee and hip replacements are not considered a necessity to they will not pay for them. It is an elective surgery whether for obesity or not because you do not have to have it. Now that that is cleared up in my opinion I am 5'5" and was 285 and I have lost 126lbs. I am still going to try to get to 150. Its doable. Now weather I would pay 17k for it. I don't know if it was coming out of my pocket that I would do it or not. I think at first I would try very hard to not have surgery if I did not have to before putting out almost 20 grand.

    Confused

Weight loss is different for everyone but a loss is a loss is a loss no matter how long it takes. If you lose inches or weight it is a loss. Your not gaining and some take a long time. You will get there.

    Need Talking Off the Ledge

I am sure that we all felt that way. You have to realize that yes you can fail but that should make you determined not to. It's not easy by far and you have to work at it. Just think about all the harm your body is going through not doing it. Think about how nice it will be to wear regular clothes and walk with your head held high. Think about how you won't fail instead of failing. You are getting the house now you will be responsible for the interior decorating. You will realize all the good healthy food you missed while filling your body with poison. I think if all of us can do it then so can you. Get out of the pity party and get excited about your new life you will have about a year from now.
  7. Donna has your doctor ever said anything to you about fibromyalgia. I have it and it does cause muscle pain, tendon pain and joint pain. I take nsaids daily or I would not be able to do anything let alone get out of bed. I think that your health is important but I would also see if its more then your lupus causing you the issues. Best of luck to you anyway. I know its a hard decision.
  8. Gaining weight after band removal is not a necessity. If you stop dieting and lose portion control of course you are going to gain the weight back. Some people still have restriction once the band is removed because of the scar tissue. I do not believe that band failure is as common as most think. Of course there will always be a complication to any weight loss surgeries but most patients who have their bands removed is because they did not comply with their program their doctor put in place for them.
  9. You could also have a UTI call you doctor and go see him.

Banded 4 days... Liquid phase is killing me!

This is the time you need to keep busy. The more you sit around and think about food the more you are going to want to eat. If you are feeling up to it do some light house keeping, read a book, watch a movie that has no commercials, read the news paper, play games on line. There are so many things you can do to keep yourself occupied.
  11. I chose the band because its reversible and nothing was removed or separated. The choice is basically yours but doctors are trying to push the sleeve to get away with all the after care that is involved in the band. I still would do it over again. Good luck on whatever you decide.

Don't give up it will come. You will get there.

    Low-dose aspirin

I have severe arthritis and fibromyalgia and I take two alleve every day and have for four years. I would think if you took a baby aspirin which is the same thing as a low dose aspirin and chew it up that it would not be an issue but that should be discussed with your doctor. My primary is aware that I have the lapband and I have had no issues because really nothing stays in your band for hours. It digest in less then a minute. I would think if anything it would be an issue for the bottom of your stomach. I wouldn't do anything that I thought would cause me issues and it hasn't. But that is up to you and your doctor to decided.

    So I've been thinking =/

We all have to do what is best for us and maybe you should look into the sleeve but I cant say that getting the band again would come out the same. Maybe something just upset your system to cause you to have infections and the place they picked was your band. I wouldn't just give up because what choice do you have not to have one of the surgeries. I would really research the sleeve and see if it would be of help to you, however I wouldn't give up on the band because as you can see it was fixable and even though you had to have it removed you still have the chance of getting it back. Good look on what ever you decide.

    help

Most people get diarrhea in the liquid phase. If for some reason you don't then that is great. If you ever see old people on tube feedings, most of them always have diarrhea because all they are getting is liquid and because of the surgery your body is all out of whack.
  16. There will always be risks with weight loss surgery's. My daughter in law had the sleeve and is sick as a dog and can not have anything done. It just doesn't work for everyone. Which is fine but the thing I don't like is when people post statistics that are older then the band. Yes in the beginning with the 4 cc bands and plication's a lot of things went wrong. It's never going to be perfect but you know the risks and the benefits going in to surgery and the benefits far outweigh the risks.

    Hit plateau

Patience wins in this journey. I had no weight loss for a year then all of a sudden it started going again. Try to limit your carbs to vegetables and no fruit. Protein and vegetables will do the trick.
  18. A new life on a very loving holiday. If you work with your doctor and your band you should be completely successful. There will always be small bumps in the road but it will only be temporary. Congrats on your new life ahead of you.

    Little Worried

This is the time when you have to be strong. It wont last forever. Measure your food to no more then a cup of healthy Protein because if you don't start now you will over eat when you get to restriction and the food will just back up into your esophagus. Now is the time to get accustomed to your band and to live a different life then before. Just because you can eat more don't. It wont help you in the long run.

    help

You may still be severely swollen. I would try to drink some warm tea or some warm juice. You will have diarrhea until you start eating regular food. liquids in liquids out but you still need to drink them. Ask your doctor if you can take some immodium to stop the diarrhea.
  21. Who is battleing with you. No one. For you to assume that about me is ridiculous. I am sorry you had complications but with surgery there are risks. You had it fixed now get on with life. No one is saying your band did not have complications I merely stated the band does not have a high failure rate that people imply. I really don't care if you don't answer but when people post things it is an open forum for whom ever wishes to respond. If you don't want a response to your post then don't post it. Maybe you should have posted to a sleeve forum of your complications. I am sure for the most part that most people would question their surgeons about how many patients they operate on end up having the band removed. I never said that you were at fault and I am sick of people misconveying what I say because its not what you want to hear. So before you start making assumptions about me which I wont even get into just know when you come to a public forum you can expect to get many things: pity, non pity, emotional, feel sorry for, oh hell it was your fault and a whole host of other answers. I am sorry you did not like my answer but I am more sorry for people who fall for this band complication thing like it is 9 out of 10 patients who end up getting their band removed because that is not the case.

    Crunchy textures

I have never been a crunchy eater as in potato chips and other salty crunchy things so I guess I have nothing to offer. I don't crave crunchy.
  23. No one is arguing. The study on the allergen band was done in Belgium and it was only a study of 82 patients that they screwed up on and they are also the ones that were using plication and peoples stomach tissue died because they did not have the technique right. The 1800 get thin was being sued by the FDA for giving out false information. The whole point here is that with any surgery there is always complications. But I can tell you this if I ever lose my band due to complications or because of me failing I will not resort to another weight loss surgery. That would be my choice.
  24. Get your diet that you will need from your surgeon and follow his program. If he doesn't give you that then find another surgeon. Follow up care is more important then having the surgery.
