It is absolutely OK. I did not feel any serious restriction until the 4-th fill !! It is more like restriction in your mind- you have done it, and you just CAN'T eat same much as before. Though- I am the bad example- was cheating, eating all I saw... But never same amounts as before the band. Even with me being so undisciplined, even though I need to loose another 60 lbs - I have 90 lbs off by now - 8 months after surgery, and it feels sooooo good.

I have also recently discovered a new tofu product -Egg tofu- in 4 oz tubes. You cut the tube accross and squeeze perfect rounds of very tender tofu, tastes more like very light egg. I fry ( very little oil,like spray) them with little garlic and ginger. They slide down with no problem. But isn't tofu kind of fatty ? And what kind of fat does it have ?

Dear TKW May be it's by bad math, but I added all cc's in your band and it came up to 18 cc in 10 cc band. Am I wrong, or they can do it ? I am concerned because I have only 4,5 cc empty and another 60 lbs to go..

Only restriction I feel is shortly after the fill - it backs up and I feel like a toothpaste tube being squeezed . But then in couple of weeks it goes away, no restriction whatsoever. I am afraid that it will continue stretching more and more. If I am loosing anything only due to old-fashioned way- just close the mouth.

I think if I have more understanding of the ''mechanics" of how and what stretches and moves, I will avoid a lot of mistakes. So far all loss is only few days after the fill, then looks like the pouch stretches more, and I can hardly keep the plateue, as I am eating not those 1/2 a cup, but almost full size portions. I have lost only 40 in 4 months after surgery. Had 2 fills so far. Anyone can prompt me ?

As I mentioned in prev. post- I had it done by Dr. Ren on 9/19, same practice as Dr. Kurian, all- the same. All goes so smoothly there- don't be nervous. Actually my own nervousness was the worst part of the whole thing. I was not such a good girl, and was cheating both with pre-op and post-op diets ( just a little bit). I bet everyone does it if he/she can. You come to NYU, wait, then nurse screens you, then you wait a bit again. After that they take you in the pre-op room, you dress (actually undress) and talk to the surgeon and to anastesiologist. They allow your relatives to be with you toill the moment they take you in the OR, then they can come in the recovery room. By the way- on the instruction they advise you to take robe , pijamas and sleepers - don't bother. I bought sleepers, expensive beautiful robe and pijamas of Gargantua's size. All was brought back unopened. They give you gowns of really huge size, socks, all you need and bag to carry it. Do not take anything with you- you will not need it- even toothbrush. You walk to the operating room and climb on that table yourself ( which looked weird to me, as I was shaking as a sheep's tail). Anastesiologists make sure your sholders and head are in good position. May be that's why I never experienced any neck/ back pains many complain off. Then they put in the needle, you look at the wall clock. Next you see- the wall clock, only 1 hour later. I had little difficulty breathing - it was kind of shallow, and scared me, but they gave me the oxygen, and in few minutes I felt as if my lungs are opening- and the great releif . That was one of the best moments for me when I realized- I finally did it, all was behind, and NO PAIN !!! In recovery the nurse watches you constantly, gives you Heparin, painkiller, etc other shots. I am not even sure I needed that painkiller, but it made me feel more comfortable. I stayed overnight because I had sleep apnea- no problems at all - nice room with the panoramic window facing Hudson River. Never had any gas pains, nausea. You may call it light discomfort, as if you pulled the muscle, or had bruise on your stomach. It was so light, that I can't remember now. Next morning they discharge you, and you go home. Nothing unpleasant happened at home as well. Had some broth, some propel, did not feel any restriction. The first few days you just don't want to eat... But then...( the story will continue) That's it. GOOD LUCK

Hi Cindy! I am also a Brooklynite, so I was banded at NYU on 9/19. I was SO afraid before, and now all my fears seem so funny . No pain, no hassle, no gas, no nausea. Now after18 days, I feel as if I did not have anything at all. Just 1 inch pencil line on my belly. Service there was so good ! . Probably it was some morphine they gave me, but I really did not want to go home. I can't boast that I have lost a lot- only 11,5 lbs after surgery, and 29,5 total. But, honestly, was not even so strict with the diets ( pre-and post-op). I know - it's a sin, but could not stop experimenting. SO GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I DON'T KNOW HOW THE WEIGHT WILL BE GOING DOWN, BUT SO FAR IT WAS SO EASY !!

I did something similar. The difference - I did not go so far. I freaked out and moved it from 08/29 to 09/19. I can't even explain why. Probably, scared. I found thousand of other excuses ( like I want to shrink my liver more, etc,etc,etc, blah-blah-blah- I was eating like crazy after it). But the funniest thing is that in few days after this rescheduling we found out that the hurracaine is coming to NY on the 28-29th and many hospitals to be evacualed . So - it was ment to be. My hospital was among them. Hopefully, my feeling at that moment was a good sign, because now I have to do it really coming Monday. You will also find your right time!! Just give it another chance

Thanks, I hope it will be the way you say. I would feel more confident, if not the part of my job, related to malpractice and compliance. But you never think, that "that car is going to hit you'... In my real life I had only dental implants and endoscopy, and have seen those endotracheal tubes in the package.That is all I know about anestesia. Are you the operating nurse ?

I am a "coward # 1" , and every detail scares me. Did you feel being intubated? How did you breath after the anestesia ? Any sharp pain? Nausea ? How would you describe your pain 1 to 10 ? Those whom I 've asked, had surgery 3-5 years ago and don't remember a thing. BUT... they all lost from 120 to 200 lbs. Pretty encouraging.

Anyone being banded in NYU ? Mine is scheduled for 9/19/11 , and my "tail is shaking" already.
