  1. Two of my incisions on top bother me at times. They seem sensitive. Thats the best way to describe it. Kind of itchy and a little discomfort to the touch if my clothes rub accross them. I figured at a year out, I would not feel anything there but I still do at times. Weird. Almost a itch/burn kind of thing.
  2. You can do this too! It has been a roller coaster of emotion, going through the stalls and wondering if I was done losing, trying to believe the dream wasn't over yet.. I hung in there and kept on keeping on and I made it. You can too.. just keep in mind the end result and you will push through those plateaus! They are a necessary part of the process. I had plenty of them.. you can look in my signature and see that there were months with only a 3 pound loss and I was lucky to get that! I want you to believe in yourself, put yourself first for a change and enjoy the ride!!! You can do it girl!
  3. My husband is the greatest! He really has been supportive of me on this journey. He takes great care of me. I love him so much. He is an English teacher and makes these little videos for lessons and decided to make one for me on my surgiversary.. its actually the 8th but he gave it to me a few days early because my surgeons appt was today. He also went with me to my Dr.! He took the pics there! Great man, he is.
  4. I have been crying happy tears for the past two hours! I also had court this morning (for work) and my new size 6 dress slacks were falling off and I was steppin the bottoms of them. I guess I will have to celebrate this victory by buying a size 4!!!!!!! OMG!

Im in the 130's!!!!! Wooot!!!!!

    Carb Intake

It sure has worked for me to cut those carbs really low. I did not eat very many carbs during the first 9 months or so, I didnt count them really but I did mfp and knew they were in the 50-60 range and then they crept up to 90-100 as I could eat more and stopped my weight loss. Now that they are back down, I started losing again. It should be interesting to see where they need to be for me to maintain my goal once I reach it. My nut says about 70-80 should keep me in maintenance. We will see at that time. Just stay focused on low carbs and I bet you will see results!

    Never Trust A Fart!

This happened to me the day after I got home from surgery. I thought it was just a fart but then it was warm...lol. I made a run for it but alas, I had sharted. Then about two weeks later, I was hospitalized for a kidney stone and sharted in my bed. I didnt even have to fart and just woke up to feeling something warm and realized what it was! I had an IV and I was trying to stop it but there was no use. I made a mess in my bed and I had to call for help to clean it because I was under so much sedation. I had a tough time with constipation after that for months. It was horrible. I started drinking muscle milk again and even though its lactose free, it works like a laxative for me. After so much constipation issues, horrible pain with that, I welcome the runs from Muscle milk. It doesnt happen every time, just about every third day, I will have a very sudden and loose stool. Thats fine by me, at least I dont have constipation anymore. I dont shite myself anymore, but its a close call sometimes! Funny how things affect each of us differently. My sister who was recently sleeved too, had some sharting accidents as well early on. I guess most of us go through this at one time or another.

    Bathing Suit

I am almost to goal and I wore a bikini to the beach in late June, everyday for a week! I was a little self conscience about by skin issues but then I began to realize as I looked around the pool and beach that I had the best looking bod for a 40 something year old out there! Dont get my wrong, some were thinner but had odd shapes and just didnt look good in a swimsuit. I was smoking hot! or at least in my head I was. lol I felt so much better when I saw that I was not standing out as the big fat one or the one with the misshapen body. I blended right in and I even turned a few heads! My husband said to my daughter as they were walking up the beach toward me and my MIL.."who's that little woman talking to Ma?" Neither of them recognized me! LOL. He was just wondering who that pretty woman was talking to his mom. He said he recognized his mother, but not me.. I laughed really hard at this. I said to him.. but you just saw me in this swimsuit at the pool.. I guess I was standing on the beach and looking super cute at the time! LOL. I am accepting my body more and more these days thanks to the sleeve!

    Carb Intake

My nut just told me to keep my carbs under 30. I do not do much exercise though. She said it would help me to lose the last 10 pounds in three weeks. This is a little drastic since it is a last ditch effort for me to make goal in the time I wanted to. When I first started this journey and for the past 10 months or so, I was following the 70/70 rule. No more than 70 carbs and no less than 70 Protein. Its an easy rule to apply. My doc and nut always say dont worry about calories as long as these two, carbs and Proteins are in the right amount. The calories will just fall into place. That worked for me and I lost the first 90 pounds this way. I have only been really low carbing it for about 10 days now. Its tough! I dont eat fruit and never really did on this journey. I just eat protein mostly. I got my carbs from milk and Protein drinks mostly. I did develop a snacking habit that i had to break to do this low carb thing. Good luck to you! I know you will get lost of different advice here. The people who work out a lot will tell you to eat more carbs, the people who dont will tell you to eat less. Maybe you could just go with something a little lower in carbs than you are right now and boost your protein up, dont worry about calories. That may do the trick for you since you are exercising so much. Good luck!

    On Surgery Day..

no catheter or drain! Dont worry! It will be okay. If your doctor uses a catheter, it can be put in after you are asleep! Just ask them to do that if necessary.

    Cant Stop Crying Any Help?

I am a lot further out but I stopped losing too. I went to my nut and she told me to keep my carbs under 30. Boy did that do the trick! I had fell back into eating a lot of high carb snacks.. not much at a sitting but still, they added up quick! I use my fitness pal but I had slacked off of that and I didnt realize that my calories were up around 1100 average and I wasnt getting enough protein and around 100 grams of carbs! No wonder I wasnt losing. Most of us have a low metabolism so eating 1200 calories a day will NOT result in weight loss. We have to be lower than that especially the carbs... They need to be under 30 to break the stalls and get things moving again. Try that and let me know if it works for you too. I have lost 5 pounds in a week and a half and I am 94 pounds down! I only have 5 left to lose and it helped me. The last 10 pounds or so are a real pain to try to lose too so you can get where I am coming from. I bet if you lower your carbs and drink your fluids (no carbs or calories in drinks!) you will begin to drop the weight again. HTH. Tammi

Should I Tell The Inlaws About My Surgery?

I would not tell them. I didnt tell my inlaws either. You know them and what they will say to you. You dont need that negativity and you know it will happen if you tell them. Its not their business anyway. If they ask you about why you arent eating much, just tell them you have to take it slow because of your hernia surgery. I bet they stop noticing as long as they dont think you are on a diet. And you arent on a diet so.... I would not visit much if they are nasty to you. You need healthy boundaries with these people. They can chose their lifestyle but so can you! You dont tell them what to eat and what not to. You are not asking the diabetic mil why she is eating desert when she is not supposed to and so on and you deserve the same courtesy! Stand up for yourself! Its none of their business at all what you eat and dont eat. I would not tell them unless you feel it necessary and I cant imagine why it would be necessary. JMHO

    Labor Day Challenge 2012

SW-145 CW- 140.4 GW-135 I lost 2.5 pounds this week! Go low carb!!!!! I am trying really hard to make my goal of 135 by August 8th, my surgiversary. I have two more weeks to lose 6 pounds. I believe I can do it. If I do, I will revise my Labor Day goal to 130. I need to get under my goal so I have some wiggle room. After that, I will start maintenance. Good luck everyone!!!

My Hubby Keeps Eating My Food!

I have had this problem too, only with my kids. My husband is out of work right now and we dont have much money. I have to get my Protein. I buy for them, not junk food so much but things they need. They are small, not young, but small for their ages. My son is 18 and he weighs 110 pounds and my daughter is 100 pounds at 14. They are really active healthy kids but small in stature. They need whole milk and things with more fat in them their doc says. I buy them whole milk and me skim milk. They drink my milk first and then theirs. I cant drink thiers. Its like they have no respect for my needs. I can understand you feeling this way about your husband doing this. Its not that you dont want him to eat healthy, its that he is going to eat yours and then the other stuff too! Its like he doesnt care what you need, he is being selfish and just taking what he wants without considering your needs. I think this deserves a talk with him about it. Seperate your food as best you can, hard to do in the fridge, but try and sit down and talk to him about it. I talked to my daughter about drinking all my muscle milk and explained how i needed it for my health and she can drink regular milk. I will let her have one occasionally but she has to ask me for it. I cant afford to buy those for two people when she can get plenty of nutrition in other ways. She just likes the taste of it, she is not drinking it for the protien. I hope talking to him does the trick. He is probably unaware that this bothers you and I get that its the underlying thing about him not considering your needs, only his wants for convenience, etc.

    Found Yummyness! :)

The wonton wrappers sound like such a good idea!
  21. Well, I have a blended family too and I came from one. If I were in your situation, I would let your husband be responsible for his family and you for yours. Thats how we do it. My husband does not have kids but he buys for his mom, dad, siblings and stuff. I dont take on that role. My oldest son is about to marry a girl that is pregnant with his kid but she has a 5 year old too. I like the little girl but I dont really know her. They dont come around too often. I bought her a nice xmas last year (first year we have known her). I know when my real grandson gets here, he will be my first and I dont want to go super crazy for him and not her too. She does have two sets of real grandparents though and i am just her step grandma. It gets confusing on what is the right thing to do. Back to you... I think that there doesnt need to be a rift in your family about this. Just let him handle his kid and grandkid and you handle your kid. There is literally nothing you can do about how your grandbaby acts if he isnt being raised by you. You can make him behave at your house and while he is with you but the poor kid will be all confused about what to do where. I feel for you on this one. Hopefully as he gets older he will have more structure. I know I plan on my grandson having structure at Mimi's house whether he has any at home or not. HTH
  22. Hey girl. I just had this problem. I was in a stall for about two months, gaining and losing the same two pounds.. so really maintaining my weight. I still had 10 pounds to my final personal goal and I really wanted to reach it by "our" surgiversary. (we are sleeve sisters I think). I went to my NUT and she put me on 20-30 carbs a day--- I was eating an average of 90-100--- last friday. I have lost 4 pounds and it hasnt even been a week yet! I still have almost three weeks til my surgiversary. I feel that i can do this. I am so close! I know I can maintain and live a happy healthy life without dieting once I am in maintenance. I can do this low carb thing for a few weeks to get to my goal of 135. I was 141.5 this morning. Sooooo...... try the 20-30 grams of carbs a day and you will lose the last 10 pounds fairly quickly! Its a little difficult if you have been eating a higher carb diet but its totally doable. She said dont worry about calories. Eat a high protein diet, even all the way up to 120-140 grams if you need to, but carbs must be kept under 30. My calories have been around 700-800 and my protein up in the 70's and 80's. Thats really good for me since I usually was only getting in 60. You can eat as much meat and cheese as you need to feel full so I am not hungry. I just like carby stuff but I can sacrifice that to make goal. I know I will be able to eat more of that as I move into maintenance. I know you can do it too! Come on girl, lets do this thing!

    Longest Stall That Was Broken?

Your calories seem high and thats probably due to eating a lot of carbs. I know you need some carbs for exercise and all but maybe you could see where you are on carbs. My nut just told me to break my stall and lose my last 10 pounds that I needed to go very low carb, 20-30 a day. I am not saying you need to go that low. I am saying that maybe you could examine how many you eat in a day average and cut those back and eat more protein instead of carbs. That seems to be the key to stall breaking. HTH

    150 Lbs...can It Be Done?

My sister and I both had the sleeve. She wants to lose 150 pounds too. The surgeon told us that it is totally doable. You will need to follow your high protein low carb eating to do this however. She just had hers in June so she is early out but has lost 40 pounds already. You can lose all the weight you want to lose with the sleeve. If I were you I would weigh the pros and cons. I think the pros to sleeve are no vomiting, no malabsorption vitamin issues, can eat a larger variety of foods, doesnt keep you from ever taking advil or nsaids and doesnt keep you from having a normal EGD if you should ever need one. With bypass, you get dumping syndrome, we dont. You could be malnurished because of the malabsorption issue, we are not usually malnurished. They vomit a lot because they only have a pouch, we dont. I have yet to vomit once and I am almost a year out. I am sure you can find a lot of other pros and cons to both and its a personal decision. I think and have been told by many surgeons and experienced people that the weight loss percentages are about the same for either, the sleeve has less complications to deal with, with the same benefits. JMHO.
  25. I had to cut back on my carbs to keep losing. I was averaging about 90 carbs a day but I was gaining and losing the same three pounds. When I cut them back to under 30, I began to lose again. I can eat a lot more than I could early on as well. I started eating a few chips here and there and drank a lot of milk. I also ate peanut butter and nilla wafers everyday too. Waaaay to many carbs for the losing phase. I will be able to eat more carbs once I am in maintenance but not now. Thats my advice. HTH.
