  1. I think a big problem today is that we are soooo impatient as a people. I dont know anyone who has lost 10 pounds in 16 days without surgery or on their liquid diet. I mean be for real. I dont think most of us could do that on our own and if we could we wouldnt be fat. Its the maintaining the loss that counts anyway. So what if you ONLY lost 10 pounds... thats 10 pounds you wont regain next week. It will come off when it decides to. You didnt gain all that weight in 16 days so how can you expect it to just miracle its way off that fast?? Please give your sleeve a chance... you dont really have a choice at this point anyway. I am sure it will speed up for you soon.. Your body has to adjust to the low calorie intake..also, you dont saggy skin from losing to fast anyway. I wish you the best. I think you should try to exercise some patience and let your sleeve work for you. Just my two cents and I dont mean it in a harsh way. We all get like this and I have to remind myself alot to be patient!

    Sept 24th check in

Hey guys! I lost 2 pounds this week. I didnt think I was going to loose any but finally yesterday the scale started creeping down. I hope for more next week. My husband thinks it was because I have been sick. I am still struggling to get enough protein, calories and fluid. Its been a tough week. I did wear my jeans that I havent worn in two years to work this week. That felt great.. Some were size 16 that I bought at old navy after loosing some weight with weight watchers but after about a month, I couldnt wear them anymore. I am such a yo yo'er. Anyways, I will check in next week! Have a good one!
  4. Okay.. I did a rough little tally at these increments.... 2-3 months out ---- 50% 4-6 montHs out ---- 67% 7-9 months out ---- 86% 10-12 months out --- 96% I just went through some posts and wrote down the username, months out and percent weight loss in each group from there tickers/surgery dates etc. There were about 12-15 people in each group. Just a quick overview. Some were lower than others but I averaged them and this is what I came up with. PRETTY IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!!
  5. You can go from sleeve to GP but not the other way around. You have to live with it, not him. Why not give it a go and then if you are in that percentage that doesnt loose all the weight, get the bypass then. I would do what I felt was right for me. Statistics are just that... you dont know where you will fall on the curve and neither does he. I would not want the dumping but that is just me. Its your decision and I think you should just think about what you think is best for you and only you. If you want the sleeve, get the sleeve. Its your body. JMO My doctors office reports near the same results as GB. I went for it because of that. He said many people loose 100 percent of their weight with it just like GB. I dont know where your doctor got his stats from. Lap band is about 50% average I think. Not sleeve. EDIT: I think I am going to take a little poll of people whho are at least 6 months out and see what percent they are on these boards. I will do my own stats to see what the percentage is at 6 months. I will let you know what I come up with.... I am going to look at all the posters and not ask the question... some people may not see the poll... I love detective work!

    Need Help with Protein Please...

    Where do you buy it?
  7. Hi again. I am having serious trouble getting my protein in. I dont do shakes or bars because they are just downright nasty to me. I have to try to get it from food and I am really struggling here. This past week I only got about 30 grams a day and that cant be good. I have tried several brands of shakes, etc and they just dont sit well with me. I also tried a few bars, I cant even get through a few bites. I am six weeks out and I cant hold a whole lot at a time. My dr. says to eat only three meals and no snacks. How do people do it? I eat eggs and bacon in the morning but I cant hold a whole egg. I bought costco shrimp because it had 26 grams of protein but thats for 4 ounces and I had to graze on them all afternoon to get 2 ounces in and thats only half the protein! I am so frustrated! I drink a glass of milk at night to get 8 more in and I had a half of a chicken burger last night with cheese on top. I dont know what to do! If anyone has any protein recipes for like a hot coffee drink or something, maybe I could try that. I know a lot of you have said that the protein powders dont do well in hot beverages though so I dont know. Anything that you think might help me would be so appreciated. I also cant bring myself to try cottage cheese or greek yogurt... the thought of it is not pleasant. Thanks to anyone who will help me.

    Need Help with Protein Please...

I am going to get some carnation instant breakfast. My kids liked it when I bought it before. I also like the hot chocolate idea too. I ordered some unflavored unjury protein in hopes I can hide it in my decaf coffee. I use sf hazlenut creamer and so I think I could tolerate it. I love peanut butter to and I can lick the spoon! lol. What a novel idea. I like the idea of granola/almonds mixed in the greek yogurt. I am going to try that too. I have some premium mixed nuts but I am not supposed to have those for another week. I think we are sleeve sisters! August 8th right? I will also try to bacon and carnation instant breakfast. I could drink that on my way to work. A quick note: My doctor prescribes me generic zofran for nausea. It works wonders! It is a tiny pill and I take one every morning because my sleeve doesnt like Water or anything really on an empty sleeve. This enables me to drink milk in the morning without the discomfort. I dont have to worry about nausea at all. Its soooooo much better than phenergan. Phenergan puts me to sleep but zofran doesnt. I like that its generic and free with my insurance. Maybe you should check into it with your doctor. Hope that helps some with discomfort with milk, or alternatively you could take a lactose pill over the counter.

    Need Help with Protein Please...

Thanks for the tips. Greek yogurt is a little on the tart side but I had not thought of adding granola or something to it to make it taste better. I like vanilla yogurt like the mcdonalds version..teehee.... so I think I might try vanilla greek yogurt with granola. God knows I am not eating enough calories so I am not going to sweat that right now. I had not thought of making protein puddings either. I love pudding. I might be able to eat that pretty well too. I could not and still have problems with Jello. Weird huh? My sleeve doesnt like it. It sits in my stomach like a rock and feels uncomfortable even if I let it melt in my mouth and swish it between my teeth! I just gave up on jello. I can eat pudding though just really slowly to prevent from over doing my sleeve. It doesnt like thick things like that. I am not a fan of chocolate usually of any kind. I am going to order some unflavored powder to add to things. Maybe I can experiment and find something that works. The cottage cheese thing is all in my head I know but its hard to get passed that. I might try the instant breakfast. At least it has some protein. Also, What kind of string cheese are we talking here? The light sargento ones or just any of them in general? I can eat string cheese. I will try that too. I bought some lunchables and it says it has 18 grams of protein in it.. I am going to leave the crackers off. Thought I might get through half of it anyway. I think my main problem is that i have a LOT of restriction. Three or four small bites and I am done! I have to wait and eat a little more and wait...etc.. So basically I am grazing to get the little bit i get in! I appreciate all the suggestions from everyone and I am going to keep on trying! Making a list and I am ordering some unflavored protein now! Thanks!
  10. Cant get my protein in! Frustrated!

  11. I just posted this same problem in the wrong area! Oops. I too, struggle hard with this. I guess I have a smaller sleeve than others because I cant hold that much at a meal! That would definatelly make it easier! I can barely hold a whole egg. If I add cheese to it or sausage or anything else I can only eat half of it and that defeats my purpose. I can only hold about 1 1/2 oz to 2 oz of chicken or fish. Ughhh this is so frustrating. I am only getting about 400 calories a day on a good day and about 25 to 30 grams of protein.. not even half of what I am supposed to get! HELP!
  12. I am looking forward to: being able to wear the cute jeans! being able to put on my shoes and tie them in the middle! not having the seatbelt dig into my sides on a plane. having my bra fit comfortably and not dig in and make red marks all the way around me. not huffing and puffing after climbing my stairs. being able to change my hairstyle and not worry how it will look on my face shape since it wont be so round! being able to exercise without all that huffy puffy feel like I am dying thing.... getting my self esteem back like it was in college! I was the S%^T! and I know I can be again. teehee

    Having Major Second Thoughts

I told my surgeon that I was not drinking protein shakes, eating nasty protein bars or anything like that. His repsonse was okay, dont. I get my protein from my food. Its a little harder during the liquid stage but i had soups like bean and bacon and the ones with a lot of protein. I was on soft food after three weeks and so I had soft eggs, yogurt, cheese, milk, etc to get my protein. I am 6 weeks out and I refuse to drink protein drinks. I just wont do it. I take a b12 sublingual most days. It melts under your tongue and taste like a sweet-tart only its not tart.. like the powder in the straws we had as kids. Its not bad at all. Sort of a treat! Dont let that scare you off. Do more research and make sure its the right thing for you but I am loving mine!

    Muscle Mass Loss

They have this type of scale at my surgeons office. It showed my %bf was 50 when I first went. Then a week later it had dropped to 49 and I had lost 9 pounds. (preop). When I was there for my two week checkup after surgery... it was 41% and I had lost 18 pounds. I had a kidney stone and a lot of fluids pumped in so two weeks after that it went back up to 45% fat and I weighed 217! I didnt understand how it could go up in fat % but the weight about the same. The PA said it was either a misread the time before, or the way the scale works and it might be all the Fluid retention. I was very puzzled over this. I wonder how they really do work. She tried to explain to me that it subtracts everything else and whats left is supposed to be the fat % but Water retention can make a difference in the numbers. Makes no sense to me. I know I didnt gain any fat over those two weeks. I ate nothing! I was in too much pain. I only sipped water and had pain meds and fluids! I dont know that i would chalk that up to lost muscle mass just yet. It could be other things according to my dr. ?? I am confused about how they work and I dont know that it means you are loosing muscle mass. I am going to try to figure out how they really work and I will let you know what I find out!
  15. Wearing my size 16 old navy jeans for the first time in two years!

  16. I think I might have turned that around on her. I might say something like, "I am also making it a habit to only surround myself with people who are supportive of my decision to get healthy. Your snide comments are unappreciated and I wonder if you CANT be a nice person or is it that you just DONT WANT TO."

Fast tracking to a new life!

I was in the same boat! I had researched it for about a year on and off. I even attended a seminar once but I didnt like the staff (DUMB) so I put it off again. We got new insurance and I was checking to see if they covered it and found a seminar the next day (saturday) and signed up. At the siminar, my husband and I decided that I should go for it. I made an appt for Monday and scheduled surgery for the following MONDAY! My surgeon said I was the fastest seminar to surgery they ever had! I already saw a therapist and had a 20 year track record with weight watchers and my insurance wouldnt cover it because it was new and my bmi was 40 and not 50. We decided to self pay and in a week it was done! I felt like I was in a whirlwind. I was scared but happy it was happening so fast. I only had one week of preop diet but I lost 9 pounds with that and I have lost a total of 29 since I started 6 weeks ago. Good luck! You will do great!

    Eating too fast

I am having trouble with this too. I eat my bites too fast and within three bites, I feel that pressure in my chest and am too full to eat anymore. I am not getting enough Protein or calories this way. I noticed last night, I cooked myself a 2 1/2oz peice of talapia (very small) and I ate it while watching TV. I ate a bite, then I would watch for a couple of minutes and then eat another bite. I almost ate it all and no pressure or feeling too full too quick. It took me about 30 minutes to eat the tiny peice of fish and it got cold but at least I got the protein in without an uncomforable feeling. I am going to keep trying this approach. I find it hard to do this when you are out at a restaurant. You tend to eat at the speed of everyone else and on the third bite, you have to stop. I try to wait between bites and no one else is.. they stop and ask every minute if I am ok. I am frustrated with this. I need a distraction so I can eat slower. I do okay at work because I get on the boards then and I will read a little and then eat a bite, and so on. If anyone else has an idea of how to slow down, I would appreciate it. The old habit of eating fast is hard to break!

    NSV!!!!

I am a forensic scientist and I have to testify in trials alot. They called me for court this afternoon. I have two outfits hanging in my office. One has a suit jacket and a little shell that goes under it with black pants and the other is just a big blouse that goes with the same black pants. I havent been able to wear the shell and jacket for about a year and half because its too tight in the arms and across my back and the shell cuts me under the arms. Its a size 18 and I was a 20. WAS is the operative word here.... I tried on the jacket and it fits great! Plenty of room! I guess loosing 27 pounds did make a difference! WOOOHOOO! No more wearing big loose blouses to court! Yay me!!! Ps.. I am also wearing my size 18 jeans today too!!!! woop! (not to court of course)
