  1. I'm new to this site - been lurking a bit and reading as much as I can about what I can expect both before and after surgery. I'm feeling anxious but excited. It felt like this day would never come. After making the decision to go ahead with Gastric Bypass back in August, I learned I needed to do 3 months of medically supervised weight loss. Those months flew by and, in hindsight, I think they will make me more successful after surgery - although I certainly didn't think so at the time. I went from my highest weight ever of 296 down to 258 during my MSWL. I'm really hoping for no complications tomorrow. I'm having a hernia repair at the same time. Looking forward to not having acid reflux or heartburn anymore:) I hope to be able to post again soon with a really great surgery story.

Clear Liquids & Pre Op Dieting

My surgery is tomorrow as well! I was allowed all the things listed above. Started bowel prep at 9am. No solids since yesterday at dinner. Learned I hate sugar free jello and Popsicles... Good luck tomorrow. Hoping for an uneventful surgery.

    I'm baaaaaack

So glad you're feeling better. I expect you'll be doing a liquid diet for a while yet as you are healing. I know I'll be on liquids only for 3 weeks and then soft foods for another 3. Only 2 more weeks til my surgery... Stay strong. Love your attitude!
  4. I chose RNY since I want to lose 100lbs and this surgery has the highest amount of weight loss according to stats. I also have GERD and my surgeon really advised against the sleeve since that could make it even worse. I was on the fence about the band but I still held the option in the back of my mind. After my endoscopy revealed a rather large hiatal hernia, my surgeon said the band was no longer an option so that left me with RNY. My choice became very clear at that point

    My journey...

How exciting! I hope your insurance comes through with an approval very soon. I know it's hard to wait for the answer when you've jumped through all the required hoops and just want to get going with the surgery. I also considered the sleeve but found out that due to my reflux issues, that surgery was not suggested. It was discovered during my endoscopy that I have a hiatal hernia so I need to get that taken care of at the same time as my surgery. That made scheduling a challenge since the hernia-fix-it guy is a thoracic surgeon and they are very difficult to book. Wishing you the best of luck! Keep us posted!
