  1. I'm about 4 and a half months post op and down around 50 pounds.. I was pretty happy with the weight loss I was having.. Up until my last visit.. I only lost .9 pounds in 5 weeks. But, I know why.. I can eat as much as I want of whatever I want.. UGH. I know I shouldn't, but I just get hungry.. And eat. Too much. Of stuff I shouldn't have. So mad at myself right now... I have to go back Monday and I'm so scared of going and have gained weight. I will definitely be asking for a fill though. :(

  2. I was very open about it. If I could start over, I dont think I would have been so open.I just get sick of the conversation piece always being about the surgery and being watched when I eat. People assume you will eat a bite of chicken and then be full and if you eat more then (they) expected sometimes they comment..."wow you can still eat alot".... really 14 oz of food is alot? really? I also hate, that I am busting my butt working out, running, lifting, and I have had over weight friends-co workers refer to the band as the easy way out.... EASY WAY OUT? WHAT? I've never worked so hard in my life! For me personally.... I would keep a low profile.

Yeah.. That's one of the reasons I'm not just telling everyone. I don't need other questioning everything I do, especially since most don't even know how the band works. If someone told me I was taking the easy way out, I would probably say very not nice things to them (LOL). I don't even have mine yet and having to change my eating habits and excluding things from my diet completely is soo difficult... Especially when it comes to cooking. It is nice to be able to make one dish and it last for a week though! :)

  3. I haven't been banded yet, but I weight at least once a week.. I feel like it makes me make sure I stay to the pre-op diet (mine is a month) because I know I have to weigh in a few days, but that's just me. I know after surgery my doctor doesn't want you to weight yourself at all, so the only time I weight after surgery is supposed to be when I go to see him.

  4. One of the reasons that the only family that knows is my parents and my one aunt (who doesn't live here) is because they really just can't keep their mouth shut... When and if I decide I want people to know, I want to tell them not them already know from someone else.

As for what I'll tell people when I disappear for two days and why I'm not working, I don't really know. I'll leave that for figuring out later. Haha

  5. if you tell some ppl and they find out later will they be mad cause we didnt share this with them(i haven't been banded and i was wondering the same thing who to tell and who not to tell and what to tell ppl that notice my changes)

If people get mad, they get mad. I don't tell many people personal things to begin with so I feel as if I wasn't close enough to them to tell them, then I don't care if they are mad or not....

  6. I had mentioned to another friend a while back that I was thinking about getting it and all that she would do is just say "No, don't do it" and blah blah but never would give a reason why. After that was when I decided to not tell people. I may tell people later but right now I feel as if it will be easier without others knowing and looking at everything I do and always asking how much I've lost.

  7. Who have you told about the LapBand? I personally am not telling many about my surgery. Out of my family only my parents and one of my aunts know and I also have one friend that I have told about it. People have so many different opinions of it and of course there's always the "It's the easy way out" (which is not the case at all) and the "Why can't you just do it the normal way?" which are really my reasons in not telling others.. Changing life-long habits is hard and the last thing I want to deal with is people criticizing and questioning me, so they just won't know.. Which leads to my next question.. What do you tell people when they ask you about how you lost the weight? Obviously there's always the diet and exercise, but do people really believe it? I'm in college and will be having the surgery over out Christmas break, in which I won't see any of my friends for a month so I'm guessing they will probably notice, and I know my family will notice since I don't come home from school that often.. I guess in the end it doesn't really matter what you tell people and if they believe you or not, I was just wondering what yall tell people

    :)

  8. I eat a Protein shake for breakfast the mix is 24g and milk is 8 so that's 32g right off the bat. Then for lunch some thin sliced deli turkey and a cheese stick that's abt 15g. Mid-day a cup of cottage cheese 28g. dinner usually chicken that's 26g and a salad with veggies and some Protein pudding for dessert that's another 30gs. I drink Sobe life Water zero cal and regular Water. I might throw in some fruit here and there but that's a typical day for me. Good Luck, I know you can do this because you wouldn't be on a site such as this if u weren't serious about droppin some lbs. Just tell urself u can do it and remind urself ur young u have ur whole life ahead of u :D

Thanks! I'll def have to find something besides cottage cheese though haha

  9. Thanx :D I really believe it is the mindset u have to get into. I have not had a fill I just follow what the nutritionist tells me. I told my friend the plan I eat which is 1000/1200 cal a day 100g of Protein a day and at least 48 to 64 oz of Water or sobe life zero cal. My friend tried this and lost 20 pounds in a month she is 49 not banded or super heavy. She only needs to lose 50 pounds to be at her goal, well 30 now haha Good Luck!:D

Thanks! I'll have to try that for a while before I go back to school for the Fall. What do you usually eat? Especially to get that much protein..

  10. Well, I am 58 yrs old, I too, have been up and down my whole life. For about 15 yrs I did stay in a normal range of size 12-14 and then as I got older, I quit smoking gained 45 pds and had my "change of life" really early and gained an additional 45 pds. That weight was never coming off!!! I wanted the gastric but when I started to prepare for the surgery here in Vegas, the Dr. thought it best for the band. I was refused the first two attempts with my insurance company and over a 2 yrs period I was persistent and finally got okayed. I have been banded for 2 1/2 yrs and lost the entire 90 pds, I am down to a size 10 and have been holding. I do occasionally cheat and have Snacks that I wish for and then go back to the basics of eating well. I am off all of my meds and feel like a kid again. I do believe this was the best decision for me and do not regret it ever. I never had to have a fill and that was another plus for me. I was not constantly getting filled and unfilled. Good luck on your decision and sometimes the Dr. really does know best.

90 pounds is amazing! I've probably lost about 40-50 before and I can keep it off for a bit then it just kinda slowly creeps back on. Besides my weight being something I've struggled with my whole life, my major is health related and I feel like making sure the weight comes off, and stays off, may be necessary for anyone to take me seriously. I'm going to a seminar in August.. Are they any questions that you recommend I ask.. Or things that you wish you would have asked before you had your surgery?

  11. So, I know that the Teens part of this is kind of slow, but if anyone does get on here and wants someone to talk to, just hit me up.

I'm 17, and was banded last August. I have been through hell and back with this thing, so I understand most problems you may be having.

If you are contemplating getting the surgery, I can give you my story for that as well (trust me, there is one).

    My email is : andy.penguins@ymail.com

Don't laugh at it please. It's from Junior High.

I'd like to know your story too.. I'm a little bit older than you but I am considering getting banded.

  12. When I decide on the surgery I don't know who I really want to know and who I don't want to know. Obviously my parents will know because they will be the ones getting the surgery for me. Right now the only people that know are my mom (I honestly don't know if she has told my dad I'm thinking about it or not) and I've mentioned it to my best friend. I wouldn't mind my family knowing (they've all seen my struggle with weight loss through the years) BUT there are a few people in my family that just can't keep things to myself.. and I'd really rather not have people find out from others besides me.. much less people I don't even really know.

  13. Hello everyone!

Obviously, I'm new here :). I'm 20 and have struggled with my weight for most of my life. Lose some, gain it back, lose, gain. Seems like a never ending process.. I'm in the beginning stages.. I have no surgeon or surgery date. Right now I'm planning to attend a seminar. I would just like to know everyone's experiences.. good or bad. Especially any one that has had a baby with the band since I'll want to have kids one day.

Well... I guess that's it for now.. Thanks everyone! :)

  14. I don't have a surgery date or anything yet, but I think I really want to get the Lap Band. I'm attending a seminar and meeting a surgeon next month. I'm just happy to know that there are other close to my age (I'm 20). For any of you that have already had it how much of a change was it for you? Especially if you are in college and are on campus? Please send me a message or reply :)
