No matter what you are expecting if you go to Mexico - you will be surprised by the differences from USA treatment. Know this in advance and you will do fine!

For example, when we arrived at Jerusalem hospital - it really was just a small "surgery center" in a strip-mall. Ten of us were crammed into a small waiting area as one by one we went into "the door" to the back area for the blood test and then upstairs to prepare for surgery. Two beds to a room and these are not necessarily changed (sheets) in between all people. How do I know? Because - I was prepped in room A - walked downstairs to the surgery area. Walked through two doors ande there were 5 or 6 assistants - all dressed in black (mesh uniforms) not scrubs - that they probably wear the whole day. (No gowns to cover). I noticed a small tear in the VINYL on the OR table and decided - hey ...if someone else survived this I will too! I held out my arms and said bring on the happy gas! I climbed on the table and was out moments later. The surgery lasted about an hour and recovery occurred in a side bed - just within eyeball range of the OR - but not in a separate room. I don't remember that at all. Then I walked back upstairs and crawled in bed (which I don't remember) in room C.

The next morning I was one of the first to be up and around, getting the promised uce cube!!! It was terrific..but not crushed ice...it was those gigantic ping-pong ball sized ice! Anyway - I went to the recovery house which was comfy and a nice cool area to sit in and drink water or eat popsicles. We all walked around with "man-balls" hanging outside our clothes which had to be drained every five hours or so. The next morning we had to drink this disgusting blue dye for our x-ray...even though they give you 8 oz. some people only drank about four swallows and they still xrayed just fine. we went for the x-ray and then on to the airport and we crossed the border a day early and stayed at the Holiday Inn because they have Express checkout - meaning we could stay in the room until 2:00 pm!! (Flight was at 6:00) My daughter had noodles and I drank the broth==heavenly!

If I had to do it over - I would. It's not USA style treatment - but the money spent was worth it! I'm one year post-op on Sep 2! Reb
