Part 2 - Sleeved in TJ

Same to you Gem. We got in at midnight last night and I was happy to be home. I hope you are feeling better. I feel pretty normal today except I burp a lot if I drink too fast. When she pulled my drain tube - she pulled out two stitches...this left a 1.3 inch gaping leaking hole. They should have put steri strips on it. Anyway I bought bandaids at the hotel and Kaite patched me up (good to have a nurse!!) so was good till I got home. Thankfully I bought some steri strips a few months ago to have on hand and when I got home I jumped in the shower and patched up really good. Did you have only two stitches left in that drain wound after she pulled the drain??
  3. It is Sunday afternoon and I have been sleeved for 48 hours! I will blog about the experience.

  4. Dr. Almanza in Tiajuana charges $4500 for the sleeve - everything included except airfare and hotel if you fly into San Diego the day before. I am 56 and will have surgery in the morning (I'm in the hotel now).... Yea!!!! Reb
  5. Be sure to post an update! I'm in San Diego crossing ovefr tomorrow with Gem.

  6. Gem - I am in Room 401 in San Diego....yahoo!!!

  7. Best wishes to WISHES and CoffeBean and HollyB and WannaGetHealthy as they travel to their respective surgery locations! I'll be thinking of you...and preparing for my flight tomorrow!!!

  8. Today is my second succesful day on liquids... thank goodness my surgery is Friday. I'm hoping I don't keel over in the airport. I found out some interesting stuff today about protein. I did not realize that some proteins are for weight loss and some for muscles and some for bariatric patients!! Good thin GNC is just a block away.

  9. Hey - I just found the best 10 minute walk through of jerusalem Hospital in TJ. Check this out.

  10. Amanda that is great and it reinforces my excitement. Friday is my Sleeve Day and I know it will be rough for a while but the very joy of not swooning at the smell of pizza will be a good reminder of why I am here. Did you have sleep apnea? I would be happy if losing the weight gets rid of my CPAP and allergies...and COPD. I really look forward to getting my BMI below 30. Good job --keep on keepin on! Reb_HR That's so you know what I do!
  11. Miss Brook - We need an update! Tell us how you are doing. Reb

  12. 7 DAYS TO GO - I've made my packing list - thankyou very much sleeve-sisters. I received some samples of Chike protein powder and will try my first one tomorrow morning. Also a few packets from the VitaminLady. Thanks to whomever posted the "get your samples" on VST. Gem & Holly - let's ROCK!!!

    backing out

I'm sorry you are scared but remember - YOU did the research. Your family did not. You've obviously been on this website and you need to stay on it! VST members are the best people I have ever had the privilege of sharing with and learning from. When I have questions - people that don't know me from Hannible Lector offer help, encouragement and love. If you are fearful of "not waking up" call your physician and ask him/her point blank. How many people have you personally lost doing this procedure. If he say 22...get the heck out of dodge! But if he says less than .001 percent - then jump on that table and ask for the happy koolaid as fast as you can. Blessing young lady. I wasted 30 years being fat and my grandchildren say, "Nana - how come you don't sit on the grass with us?" Because I need a backhoe to help me get back up! (Well...maybe not that bad.) I'm 56 and will be sleeved in 6 days. Reb

    Missing work??

Actually they can't say you are ineligible because it is elective surgery. FMLA is a federally mandated program and one of the stipulations is a "serious medical condition" which is later defined as being admitted to a hospital overnight OR having two or more visits with a physician and all surgeries would fall into this category. Having a baby is "elective" except for those of us who didn't plan it but were thrilled it happened. Whoever told you "not eligible" shame on them - they obviously are not an HR professional. Reb

    My first Ucky Day!!!!

Glad to know the reality of not everyone feels great --not everyone feels bad. A week from today I will be sleeved and hopefully resting comfortably! Stay on VST and keep up the good work!! 12 pounds Wow!
  16. Remember when I said I was starting my all liquid diet? I sure hope that Snickers Milk Shake counts!

About to talk to my boss....

New Me - Good for you! It really helps when your employer is supportive. I realize they have no legal right to know -- but they will generally accommodate your needs better when you are forthright. In my case the City Manager came into my office and told me to take whatever time I needed - and he would have I.T. set me up with a laptop so I could work from home. What a relief! (I work much better in my PJs than in slacks and a jacket)
  18. Tuesday evening checking on my friends. Prayin for lalaldotdot and KristinaRN having surgery tomorrow. Bless you ladies! I'm wondering how I will feel two weeks from today when I am back home and resting. Time flies...

  19. Good luck Lisha...I start liquid diet tomorrow. Reb

  20. Tuesday - late afternoon - only 9 more days with a "FULL" stomach! We had our birthday luncheaon at work today and I was a good kid. Protein shake raised a few eyebrows...bet the gossip starts..."what's she doing anyway?" "I've never seen Reb turn down real food... LOL

    Soooooooo tired

Welcome to the VST site Purple Lady! Sorry to hear you've had a rough time. The good news is - it will get better - I know because everyone here tells me so. I won't be sleeved for another 9 whole days!!! Check out all the forums - there will be someone who has "leaked" and recovered... plus you'll get tons of ideas for recipes etc. I love this site and spend an hour or so in the evening searching for one more piece of information about anything and everything! Good luck - drive safe and keep us informed! Reb
  22. Best wishes! Drive safe!

    Regretting surgery

Sprite would come right back up. No carbonation from what I hear. You have to let sprite or 7-up go flat overnight. Try the popsicle ..which my sister did when she was undergoing chemo...everything made her get sick and thinking about it made it worse. Distract yourself by going for a short walk with a popsicle.. good luck - let us know how you are doing. (She also used a heating pad or hot Water bottle - just warm - not really hot hot)
