2. VERY informative! I am actually in the process of writing a book about journeying through the life of a Bandster and would like to know if I could quote or reference you.. or even use a few of the above pictures of the port out of place in your stomach. Also I was wondering how much weight you have lost, if you don't mind me asking? You skin looks phenomenal! Way better then I would have expected skin to look after looking all the weight. Here is the part I would quote
Created by MyFitnessPal - Nutrition Facts For Foods

Since this is such a super popular question on here, I decided to freely share my own recipes that I created during my 6 week full liquid phase. Feel free to use, tweak, ask me questions, anything...! ENJOY!!! *I use Jay Robb's whey Protein powder in Vanilla* J’s High Protein Full Liquid Recipes PHASE 2: Full liquid diet This starts 1 day after surgery NOTE: On the Full Liquid Diet, up to 6-8oz per meal is OK for 3-6 meals a day with lots of Water and mini 2-4oz Snacks in between (snacks are optional, but can create slower weight loss). Make sure to drink LOTS of water. The bulk of your fullness should be water. Stop before feeling full. I am consistently losing weight with these measurements. Remember to drink or eat very slowly. You can train yourself by using tiny baby spoons. The point of this 6 week plan, I am told is partly to shrink your stomach and get you prepared for the first band tightening where you will be limited to very tiny amounts. The doc wants you to get bored of these foods, because after the 6 weeks, you go strictly to solids and water. No more mushy or liquids. All of my recipes include ingredients that can be found at most Whole Foods Markets, Trader Joes or Meijers Grocery. Organic products are all optional, but I (from recent experience) highly recommend for those wanting a more rapid weight loss or healthier system in general. Using skim milk over cream or any other dairy milk will speed it up as well. The nut milks are a great way to sneak in even more nutrients. Most grocery stores carry these organic products now, but you have to look for them. *All my high fat recipes include only healthy or beneficial fats that have not been processed and do not include any hydrogenated oils. Please check the nutrition labels before purchasing any ingredients.* My Personal Tips for More Rapid Weight Loss Using the Liquid Recipes: 1. Use my snack recipes only once a day 2. Food addiction

Check out this PHENOMENAL book called Sugar Blues by William Dufty if you ever get a chance! I own 2 copies just to lend it out to everyone I know! It truly puts things into perspective. It even has a before and after picture of the guy who wrote the book and cut all sugar out of his life because of his addiction to it and the harmful effects he found out about it. It's a drug as powerful as cocaine.... Sugar Blues From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia For the song, see Sugar Blues (song). Sugar Blues is a book by William Dufty that was released in 1975 and became a commercial success. According to the publishers, over 1.6 million copies have been printed.[1] In the book, Dufty makes the case that sugar is an addictive drug, that it is extremely harmful to the human body, and that the sugar industry conspires to keep Americans addicted to sugar. The book's central argument is that a small dietary change, eliminating refined sugar, can make a huge difference in how good one is able to feel physically and mentally. Dufty even goes so far as to suggest that eliminating refined sugar from the diet of those institutionalized for mental illness could be an effective treatment for some. Several authors have noted that Sugar Blues makes very wide-ranging and strongly stated rhetorical claims as to the ill-effects of sugar, including a role in bubonic plague.[2][3][4] John Lennon was a strong supporter of the book.[citation needed] [edit] References Refined Sugar: The Sweetest Poison of All, William Dufty, © 1975, extract edited from the book Sugar Blues, first publisher Chilton Book Co., latest publisher Warner books. ^ Sugar Blues, Amazon.com, accessed 23 December 2009. ^ "Dufty compares sugar to opium, morphine, and heroin, and calls sugar companies "pushers". Protein Drinks

This is such a popular question on here that I have decided to share my own Protein shake recipes with fellow Bandsters. Jay Robb's whey Protein (vanilla) from Whole Foods Market (seems to be the absolute best tasting and I heard one of the most popular. It also has 25 grams of protein per scoop! It's the only kind I ever use now. Not only for the taste, but because he uses what I feel to be a better alternative sweeter called Stevia in it, instead of Aspartame. ENJOY!!! pizza and or spaghetti and meatballs

My docs say to relax about food and just eat things that are bulky and like to stay above the band longer. chicken w/ veggie pizza is my absolute FAVE post op food! It works the best with my band since it's still pretty loose ( only 2 fills so far) and I get my carb, veggie and double Protein (cheese & chicken) all in one slice! 2 squares or one triangle of pizza is just perfect for me Just depends how tight your band is, how it's working for you and that you keep it to a very small anmount!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Weight Loss Tools

    Nutrition Guidelines for Shakes/Smoothies

Hi This was my own personal Full liquid diet that I created for myself for the first 6 weeks after surgery. The requirements that my LAP-BAND nutritionist gave me are listed below. Yours may be slightly different, but this is what I used and I lost over 9 lbs during it! NOTE: I was given something totally different at first, and I asked if I could tweak it to be my own and get creative with recipes and was told what I was doing was fine.
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter
J’s High Protein Full Liquid Recipes PHASE 2: Full Liquid Diet This starts 1 day after surgery NOTE: On the Full Liquid Diet, up to 6-8oz per meal is OK for 3-6 meals a day with lots of Water and mini 2-4oz Snacks in between (snacks are optional, but can create slower weight loss). Cheater, Cheater ?

As some people on this LapBandTalk forum know, I was getting very discouraged at different points in my journey...Here is something I have thought long and hard about since reading your post... "Cheating" is a harsh and possibly damaging word. If we feel we are "cheating" with our food, then we are still in a "short term" frame of mind and not in the new life yet. We have one foot in those crystal clear waters, but not both. By feeling as if we are "cheating" we can beat ourselves up again! We can fall even further down the path of destruction as a way of subconsciously punishing ourselves. It's your bodies instinct to want to eat real, solid food, not just to drink it. Of course it's possible for some people to struggle to fight against their nature! You don't need to be reprimanded, you need more support. Not to mention understanding of why it can be harmful to force your band to work so hard so early on while it's still trying to heal. It's a fact that this is harder for some then it is for others. No one told me how I was supposed to feel and act before surgery and how to prepare the mind for this. It was a desperate attempt to save my life as I'm sure the same for many others out there. I didn't have time to sit and wait until my brain finally "got it". I needed a tough SHOVE into an extreme reality situation AS SOON AS POSSIBLE in order to "get it"! If your having a hard time, there is a reason for it and a solution needs to be found. Not just with a physical device and a simple doctor's order. This can be very scarey, and very overwhelming at times. It's never something to be taken lightly. We may think we have our heads in the right spot, to then just lose it again later. When we feel we are losing our heads again, we cry out for help! Your already doing the right thing just by coming on here. That takes phenomenal courage! Great job for having true woman ballz to do that! WE decided to do this in the first place. WE decided to take charge of our bodies, and WE can continue to be our own bosses. Let me say this....When I told my nutritionist (who was assigned to me by my Surgeon's staff) about my recipes in detail, she was amused and positive. She felt I was on a real good track and also there was nothing wrong with choosing healthier option soups instead of junk soups like Campbells (as recommended). I whole heartedly disagreed with the kinds of liquids my doc was choosing for me which were PACKED with artificial colors, flavors and sweeteners. My choice of soups actually had LESS calories & fat with night and day difference in ingredients. She saw no problem in me taking charge of my life, as well as when I talked with my assigned psychologist about this. The nutritionist allowed me to get creative on the flavorings of my Protein shakes and use my own sugar alternative instead of the typical sugar free sweeter (Aspartame) that was found in most everything I was told to have. I was taking charge because it's finally time! I felt very strong about my opinions and research on these healthier options (I may be overweight, but I grew up ONLY eating healthy, organic and natural foods..just way too much of them, along with lack of exercise due to a physical disability...) and more then a few of the doc's staff agreed that my surgeons idea of a healthy "after band" diet was out--dated! The only thing I was told was to be careful on the weight and consistency of the foods, and to make sure that if I used something like Peanut Butter that it was to be extra, extra smooth and in scarce amounts. Many bandsters are allowed a mushy faze after a few weeks, and I felt that it was wrong to be on liquids for so long. My gall bladder later proved that correct. I consistently lost at least 1- 2 lbs every week while on this specific full liquid diet... I lost nothing the first week when I was on the original one I was given. (Way too much artificial crap and my body sure as hell rejected it!) I stopped losing the second I started on solids staying strict to the mini bagel sandwiches I was told to be eating, etc.... I have hardly been unable to lose any more since and needed to get creative & take charge again as well as find lower carb options that are bulky enough to not slide thru immediately. That's my body, so watch yours and see what happens for you. What matters most in the very beginning is the time it needs to heal and that you get your protein & nutrients in. Be gentle to your band (it's your new best friend) and save yourself the ouchies later. I agree with Jim...Take a breath and remember why you chose this in the first place. We can do this! BTW..I weighed in yesterday morning and lost 2 more pounds this week after reaching out for help on this forum ; ) It's the first time I lost any weight since starting on solids 6 weeks ago. Good Luck!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

  15. It's just cause it can cause you extra gas, which is the last thing you want more of right now. I am 3 months post op and now enjoy using a straw to force me to drink slower, but I have to pay the price of extra gas pain if I am not careful.
Created by MyFitnessPal - Nutrition Facts For Foods

Fill Question - Removed then re-filled

You were probably just extra sensitive and very tender from all the irritation the band had to go through. I bet you will feel fine at your next fill, so just hang in there. If he wasn't worried, i wouldn't be either.
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

    2 1/2 yrs after banding & Suddenly can't eat

Congratulations! Have you moved to a warmer climate, by any chance? I heard that warmer weather can tighten the band. You may have had it perfect but now it's gotten tighter. Maybe you ate something that made it swell up because it got irritated or you have an allergy to what you ate ? You may have gotten something tiny lodged in there partially plugging up the hole... One girl said that it tightned when she drank cold liquids and loosened when she drank hot...Maybe you should try hot liquids and see if it loosens up a little bit, especially if there IS some sort of food stuck in your stoma. Maybe it will help it come out... These are things I have read from other posts, but only your band doc will be able to find out with their tests. Hope your able to find something that helps. GOOD LUCK!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

Will my husband want more sex as I lose weight?

I agree with Captain_Morgan that you need to let him know how you feel, otherwise he could just continue being Mr. Oblivious....I was scared at first that it was my weight with my Fiance' but turned out he was just a bit inexperience and shy at first (and had never been with a bigger girls, so was unsure how to "treat" me), and once I "taught" him and he got over being shy it got better....But then he still was less interested in sex then me... turned out that it had nothing to do with me (because I later found out he is addicted to my butt and legs LOL since big girls have great T&A, of course ) it's just that his "junk" doesn't work too well anymore and he is embarrassed about it and scared that he will just disappoint me if he tries. When I spoke up again about it, this time I told him that I love him no matter what and sex just gets better and better now. I know it will get CRAZY better as I lose the weight too Besides.... sometimes all it takes is teachin' them just how good big girls can really be if given the chance you just gotta learn how to work with your curves, so he can learn how to love'em! And hey... soon you won't even have to bother doing that!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

    Cheater, Cheater ?

I also got to the point where I started to cheat until I decided to get creative. Maybe you just need a few more options in your liquid diet. Here is a long list of recipes I created for myself during the liquid faze. ; ) Maybe this will help you get back on track again.... P.S. The Peanut Butter ones can be VERY heavy and can cause some people that pesky shoulder pain, so be very careful with those and start with 2oz at a time if your going to try them. I worked my way up to 4-6oz of the peanut butter ones eventually. Has anyone kept their lap band a secret?

A few yrs ago when I first contemplated surgery, I was so embarrassed about the idea that I didn't want to tell anyone except my closest. But as I went on, I realized that more and more people were like me and needed confidence to do it and didnt know enough about the band and were embarrassed and scared too.. so when I finally was able to get the surgery, I went in a COMPLETELY opposite direction and decided to tell EVERYBODY. I even let them all follow me along day by day in my own daily journal that I am now planning on turning into a book! I share ever gory detail and every hi and low of it. I feel like people need to know and step out of their ignorance. In fact, more people then we really think can relate to the struggles of weight loss, especially in America. I refuse to ever be embarrassed about it again. Turns out more people are comepletely facinated by it all then negative. Most have been extremely grateful for such an honest story. ; ) I feel it's completely up to you what you want to do. There is no right or wrong on this. Good luck in whatever you decide
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

What things can I do to help my skin

If you can, real sea salt baths! Or swim in the ocean AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE if you live near one. You can buy natural Epsom salts at health food stores in the U.S. like Whole Foods Market, or online. The salt smooths and tightens the skin. Just poor about 1/2 a cup into your hot bath Water and soak your whole body. I realize that us being bigger people, baths are difficult to do unless you own a very large tub, but I guess every little bit helps, right? Sometimes insurance will pay for the tummy tuck or (if your real lucky) the arm tucks if your doctor says that it is bad for your health because the extra skin can grow so much bacteria in the folds that it is harmful to your health. (it's very rare that can happen, but the cool docs will report that so that you can hopefully get it covered by insurance). Then, of course there is the typical working out with weight training to firm up. Trainers can teach you how to firm, rather then build to the point where your all muscle-y and stuff. I have 2 hand held weights at home that I like to use lightly every day when i watch tv because I know it's now or never to really start getting my arms where they will need to be by the time I reach my goal weight. Hope any of that helps, and good luck!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

  23. Gas is insane. It can put pain in you that you never would have expected, so getting yourself un-constipated was a great idea. Also, while you are still sensitive and healing, try to stay away from ANYTHING too heavy both lifting and eating wise. Sharp pains around your scars is just the nerves waking up and is to be expected once in a while. Not sure how long that will happen for. If your still feeling pain, gas-y, bloated after taking Gas-X and stuff to take care of the constipation, then try moving around a lot more. Someone on here posted once that sometimes gas can get into muscle tissues as well and that no amount of Gas-X, etc.. with help that. Just time and lots of movement. This forum is actually very good, and a must have for people pre and post surgery. Don't get discouraged by the lack of responders. Some people are just too overwhelmed with their own problems and looking for answers, rather then trying to answer others. I can't explain enough how important this forum is. Keep reading, and you will find it to be one of the best things you could have done for yourself.
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter

    Nervous about erosion, and others

Your very welcome, I just was sad that I was your first responder and didn't have the greatest experience for you to take from. My biggest problem was lack of communication from my doc's and them giving me next to no information on what I was to expect. Unfortunately I found this forum after many disappointments from having incorrect or no information at all pre-band... the good thing is I found this forum! LOL It's nothing but good that you are on here before your surgery, so you will have WAY LESS issues then I did. Keep reading and asking questions on here. I can't explain enough how much being prepared and informed on things with this helps. It's why I am in the process of writing a book about it! I never want another "bandster" to go in blindly like I did. I thought I did all my research, but boy was I wrong. I thought that the docs were telling me all I needed to know, but very wrong again. Knowledge is power, baby gurl and you got it right here! Good luck on your journey with the band and I'll be sending positive energy your way!
Created by MyFitnessPal - Free Calorie Counter
