    Remorse?

I was wondering if anyone can speak to it being normal to feel somewhat remorseful about choosing to have surgery? I'm 5 weeks post op, lost 30 pounds preop, and only 17 pounds since the surgery. Suffice it to say I'm so disappointed and am beginning to feel like this may have all been for not. Reading about everyone else's success had me hopeful that I'd be sitting pretty on the loser's bench by now, unfortunately I still feel like the fat girl that doesn't get invited to take a seat. Been in a stall for 19 days now and I've tried everything to stimulate some change. I really increased my protein for a week, I ate more calories for a few days, and now I'm on day 3 of the 5 day pouch test. The only difference I've seen is the scale shows I've actually gone up a pound or two then back down. Today I got to eat some eggs as part of the 5 day pouch test and they felt like a rock in my stomach. So uncomfortable and made me feel more miserable than every. I can't imagine that I'll feel like this for the rest of my life when interacting with food. I don't feel like this is normal and all the happiness about my decision is starting to drain away. Can this procedure actually not work? Can the body be so resistant to weight loss that it fights to hold on to it? Is there anyone out there who feels like they haven't made the best decision for themselves? Has anyone gone through a period like this and can speak to it actually getting better? I know it's too late and can't take it back now, but how do I live with it?

    Really Disappointed

Ok I'm totally lost with the changes and updates made to this site. There is no ease of use and it took far too long to even figure out how to post this. I definately don't think I'll be hanging out here as much.

You are positively glowing and there's a twinkle in your eyes! Congrats on your success.
  8. I'm glad to hear your getting that much needed protein in. Are you drinking protein shakes? I know my nutristionist is totally against them, but I drink them anyway. I'm doing super great! Today I had a delicious In & Out burger that was protein style and it went down soooo easy! Life is good when you can eat a modified burger and still loose weight.

  9. Hi Carly! I was just lurking around and thought I'd check in on ya? Hope all is well. By the by I'm in Northern Cali too!

    I just want to cry

Just like the "stall" I think this emotional break is typical for us sleevers and for some reason something we all go through it. I know I felt sad and slightly depressed a few weeks out, but it really did get better. These feelings of worry, doubt, disappointment, and maybe even a little regret will past. Just focus on letting your body heal and do what it needs to do to re-establish an equilibrium.Prayer and meditation may help or if that's not your thing dive into a good book, new video game, or try to figure out what makes women tick! LOL! I am a bit of an eternal optimist and can always find something good to say, but I'm not blowing smoke here... it really and truly gets better, in fact it gets pretty dam amazing! Congratulations on your new life and best of luck!!
  12. I so can't figure out how to navigate this new format, but hope you get this message. Just wanted to check on how you're doing and let you know I'm thinking of you.

    I Answered My Own Question

I just wanted to add this as an addendum to my last blog post as I'm lurking on the site everyday and I see many people have reached this dark place too. I just wanted to say the feeling of sadness, confusion, anger, and yes even remorse will pass. Reviewing what I wrote I can see I was hurting and knee deep in a bad stall. Not understanding the stall and not being for warned about it inevitable happening really messed up my head. Now I know it passes and really can beyond my control. It's something this crazy body decides to do and I just have to continue to do what I know is right; eat well, drink plenty, a get some exercise in. At 3 and 1/2 months out down 30 pounds pre-op and and another 36 post-op I've never felt better in my life! So much energy and a little bit of pride I really couldn't ask for more. Remorse? No. Is it easy? No. Is it worth it? HELL YES!!!

    Cyber-shy

Hi!! Good for you venturing out and congrats on your sleeve. So full liquid stage is pudding, soup, and yogurt right? I think it's the most challenging because you get tired of the sweet stuff pretty quick. For me trying different cream soups really helped because of their rich savory taste. Cream of wild mushroom, tomato bisque, cream of asparagus, and even cream of brocoli were all good to me. How much longer are you going to be at this stage? Just focus on how these lovely light meals are contributing to your weight loss and bringing you one step closer to goal. I don't feel I grasped this during the limited eating phases, but ultimately this is the time to get your mind to focus on the fact that food is primarily about nourishment. I wish you the best of luck and welcome to the loser's bench!!!

    update

Way to go!! You can do this and the diet that Kaiser gives you really works. I swore by my food scale and really learned a great deal about portions thru that phase. I was the same weight starting out so I know its doable!!!! Best of luck to you and your mom.
  17. Hey Amber! If you are who I think you are I believe we have a "mutual friend." She's super sweet, generous, kind, nuturing, and right now walks with a cane. I'm really excited for you both to embark on this journey and wish you crazy success. I saw your post regarding your orientation at Vacaville and I don't remember being given any set % of weight I had to loose. They weigh you at every appointement you'll have and once you meet with your surgeon he/she will tell you how much you need to loose. For me I lost 9 pound from the orientation appointment to my appt with with my surgeon. At that visit he told me to loose 13 more pounds. All toll from an orientation weight of 293 I had to loose 23 pounds in order to get a surgery date. Please contact me if you have any questions I can answer for you. I can tell you this is a wild ride, but it's the best thing I've ever done for myself.

  19. Hey girl!Glad to hear you're doing well. You'll be surprised how everyday just get better and better! I never had a problem with constipation, but my post op plan included prune juice mixed with water if needed...maybe something to try. Good luck!

  20. Hey just wanted to touch base and see how are you're feeling? Is everything going well?

  21. Hi! I noticed on some other post you said you were scheduled to have your surgery yesterday. I hope all went well and you recovering in true diva fashion!

    Good Luck and Congrats!!

  22. Keep your eyes on the prize! Girl you know this isn't about "sucks" its about success so focus and get your mind right. I'm not quite 3 months post op, but I've discovered on this journey its all pretty much a mind game. Keep your thoughts and self talk positive, be your own cheerleader, and be kind to yourself. It will all be fine and you'll excel!

2 weeks post surgery - Having a bad day.

I'm sorry you feel this way. I know there is no amount of "chin up" talk that really helps, but I can suggest that you revel in the joy of not being able to turn to food. Yeah!!! Think how many pounds you WON'T gain cause you drowned your sorrows in a pint of icecream or a super size order of fries. Ok, so you have to face everything without the crutch of a food fix. Great! That's one less thing to worry about. No regret, no remorse, and no shame from comforting yourself with food. This time and moment will pass and you are never ever truly alone. A stranger reading your post wishes you happiness and health!!

First Post, 12 days after surgery.

I wish you much success on your journey! I think your off to a good start with not becoming a slave to the scale. Your absolutely right, your body is adjusting and in about a week you'll be surprised at what the old scale says. Be good to your self and wishing you a speedy recovery.
