22 Days And Dealing With The Ups And Downs
ProudGrammy replied to 2bfit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am presently unable to leave the house for physical reasons. I know i must walk as much as i can after surgery, the only way i can walk is back and forth through out the house, is that going to be sufficient? i do have a treadmill, but i don't want to start that for awhile, so i don't get in "trouble". How long did it take you to "walk off the gas", or it that you just need to continue walking to get energy back? thanx kathy DOS 12/15/11 ps as far as being nervous & anxious for WLS - i had to go through nerves twice. About one week before WLS I got a call postponing WLS cuz they wanted to change hospitals ( So i went through nerves once, now again till 12/15/11 - boo hoo ( WLS will finally happen, hopefully 12/15/11 -
Difference In Pre-post Gastric Sleeve
ProudGrammy replied to yecats's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My ? is for those who have been sleeved. I will have WLS on12/15/11 - i am soo very excited, like expected. I have heard the "honeymoon" period of the sleeve is around 8 months or so. Does that mean it doesn't work after that? What confuses me about weight loss weekly, is that when you eat so little, why isn't more weight lossed? Many of us WW people would lose minimum 1-2 lbs. a week, so what gives? I see people lose alot of weight weekly but others stalling for months at a time. I know we all stall but..... I'm am so very excited about getting the sleeve soon, i hope its ok to ask these questions. Thanx kathy -
Does everyone get a Drain after Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
ProudGrammy replied to ProudGrammy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanx for the great responses. i was afraid my dr. was the only one not performing without a drain, relieves me to know thats not the case. I can figure what a drain is, don't really understand why a dr. would not use, but oh well, our is not to question why..... kathy -
Has Anyone Cheated On The Week Or 2 Week Pre Gastric Sleeve Op Diet?
ProudGrammy replied to StephanieG86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi babigirl111DOS 12/9/11 - surgery on Friday - WOW i'm envious - yeah, yeah, yeah, i recognize you cuz you started December Sleeves - pretty great are you!! (don't worry i'm not stalking you!!!) LOLOLOL I know you had gained 8 lbs-now losing 4 lbs is great. I also have gained weight.(10 lbs) sob sob sob my WLS is 12/15/11 - i was bumped from 12/6 cuz the dr. wanted to change hospital's due to some cardiac problems he all of a sudden discovered. he said all would be fine, just would rather go to a hospital that was better equipped. Anyways, here's to "all of us" to doing great on our journey. So, whatever we "gained" in weight, we'll "gain" in experience. Can't wait to hear about your story, i'm sure you will do terrific, i'll be thinking of you - my turn one week from thursday 12/15/11 - can't wait. kathy -

94 Lbs In 5 Months=not Good Enough Says Nurse..talk Me Off Ledge!
ProudGrammy replied to 300PoundsDown's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
this nurse is absolutely crazy - we all agree w/that giving you that awful tone discouragement how nasty is that?!!! 94 lbs in 5 months - holy moly thats so terrific. Don't let anyone tell you differently. a nurse is supposed to be professional, giving you that stupid comment about not doing well enough, i just can't believe that. Don't listen to that nut. You're doing great. Keep up the great work, and please don't let anyone tell you otherwise, and don't listen if they do. Please don't sabatoge (sorry msp) yourself though, keep doing what you're doing!!! can i quickly ask a question. I understand now the "honeymoon" period for the sleeve is 6 months, maybe more, but if you continue eating and stuff correctly, won't things continue well, i mean - you know your body, and will stop eating with the portion you always eat? I would think you would continue to lose weight? I've got 92 lbs. to lose with a BMI of 40. I know it probably will take me around 8-9 months to lose. i'm pre-op DOS 12/16/11 thanx kathy -
hey girlfriend congratulations, what an accomplishment. Now you have nothing to be shy about, we want to see pictures, pictures, pictures come on girl kathy

Slowly But Surely.. But Slowly
ProudGrammy replied to itscometothis's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi i would lose weight and gain it back, like many others. my question is this (please don't get mad) I don't understand slow weight losses. When i was in WW even if i only lost 1 lb. a week thats more than some of you for a month. The slow weight loss, does it have anything to do with our small stomachs now, pouches? i am pre-op WLS 12/15/11. So maybe i don't have any right to say this, its just a question ok? Please no egg throwing thanx kathy -
Gastric Sleeve Surgery Without 2 Week Pre-op Diet?
ProudGrammy replied to shellbelle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also went on a food "funeral" - for a few weeksi gained 11 lbs. i was so upset. but my dr. didn't really say much about it. He never put me on a liquid diet or anything - my DOS is 12-15-11. So I put myself on a "self induced" diet a few days ago to primarily liquids., I will continue this til my surgery 12/15/11 I want to lose that extra weight i gained before my surgery. But i still "sneak" in some popcorn once in a while. kathy -
Gastric Sleeve Surgery Date Set
ProudGrammy replied to dominique's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
:welcome: hi dominique. my goodness congrats on taking on 2 very important steps. a little bit of a drinking problem, sounds like you're off to a great start on that. :welldoneclap: now comes the WLS, we all have that dreadful weight problem in common, so we can all relate to our situation. This forum is great, ask us all anything you want. All the emotional feelings you are going through, are very common. Personally,i'm scared, anxious, but mainly very excited looking forward to my new, and healthy new life  . BTW our weights are similar. i weigh 235 and need to get down to 145. I'm 58 and you're 52 right?! "Do or do not, there is no try" you'll do great - kathy :aureola: -
Eating Disorder Developing After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
ProudGrammy replied to CT Fats's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
CT Fats et al I have been seeing a therapist for the past 3 years over different issues We all have them. I think the stigma about seeing a therapist has improved. i'm only pre-op, but i hope its ok i can join the discussion about being afraid to gain the weigh back so you don't eat that much. My DOS is one week from this thursday (12/15/11 is the date) I am also afraid i won't eat much because i'll gain the weight back. I've also been heavy since after i got married and had my first child. So I consider having my daughter excess baby weight that i just can't take off - Of course I had my "baby" 35 yrs ago -
tduval.. I know what you mean about gaining weight while you're pregnant, its hard to take off the weight. Of course my baby weight was from 35 yrs. ago when i had my wonderful daughter :smile1: good luck on your journey kathy

Risks Of A Gastric Sleeve Leak!
ProudGrammy replied to FionaB's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi all, i am pre-op 12/15/11 - i must admit the whole surgery experience scares me a little. I'm sure i'll be fine though. This subject about leaks... well, yeah it scares me a little. if you find a leak, what do you do? call dr. immediately, do you need another surgery? If not, what does doc do.? Don't mean to sound a little apprehensive - but i guess i am a little apprehensive :confused5: thanx kathy -
Yeh! The Lapband Is Coming Out....

Aetna pre-op weight loss required?
ProudGrammy replied to Bypassjourney's topic in Insurance & Financing
My dr. didn't require 5% weight loss. I wish he had because i decided to eat like there was no tomorrow Luckily I'm about 12 days pre-op and will try and lose what i can with the help of liquid shakes. I have Empire and they take the weight that you started with. (I really think most places do that) . I heard the reason you are "requested" to lose some weight prior to surgery is to shrink the liver as much as you can pre-surgery. So worrying about "losing" too much , weight .... well that shouldn't scare you, like i said i believe they take that 1rst weight. I will mention i am pre-op til 12/15/11 but i think these are the facts, I hope i'm right and that I didn't confuse anyone. kathy -
Upstate Ny Gastric Sleeve Docs
ProudGrammy replied to Kimmer's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
hi kimmer My surgery is set for 12/15/11 with Dr. Simon in Syracuse, NY I mentioned earlier that i really didn't explore dr. didn't check and speak with others. Basically the first dr. i met with i liked and went with him. I think it initially concerned me- but he also is doing the surgery at a center of excellence. The dr. postponed my surgery from 12/6 to 12/15 - because he was being cautious about a medical condition of mine. I think him changing his mind (wanted me to go to a different hospital that he felt was more equipped. -
The Waiting Game..until insurance approves Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
ProudGrammy replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
jasleeve, "I need this surgery" this is going to sound naive (msp) but i just don't understand. If you need your gall bladder out, or your tonsils, or even your wisdom teeth - there is no question - you need it done - no ifs and or buts; they should know that WLS is just as important for your well being. The sleeve has been around for years, no long statistic about success rate.... but its great, you all love your sleeve. "the sleeve rocks" Ironically or not, i don't have my WLS for about 2 weeks - but i've heard so many great things, that i know ins. should cover it, without such a big problem. Like i said i probably being a little naive, but i just wish things with ins. would be easier. kathy -
The Waiting Game..until insurance approves Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
ProudGrammy replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
omg - Cosmetic at 600 lbs.???? yrs back when i hadn't even thought of getting WLS - i think everyone thought if you have WLS its because you're vain, and you want to have the surgery, only to improve your appearance. i do agree that by losing all this weight, you will look better - and feel mentally much better. But even if you don't have the physical problems (like diabetes et all) you're more bound to get them being overweight. I do understand what you're saying about the ins. co. would rather pay a little bit at a time - instead of one large price for a WLS. But its ridiculous. -
The Waiting Game..until insurance approves Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
ProudGrammy replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have said this before i think....if the insurance companies used their heads they would realize that covering such morbidities (msp) as diabetes, sleep apnea etc. over the many years of a persons lifetime cost more than having WLS surgery kathy -
Lap Band Or Gastric Sleeve Surgery...losing My Mind
ProudGrammy replied to tamou37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
when i told my dr I wanted WLS - he immediately suggest the lap band. that was really the only WLS i have ever heard of. I went to one of those seminars, after different WLS were discussed - i realized i definitely did not want the lap band. i chose the sleeve due to complications that i could think of with the lapband. After reading so many great things about the sleeve, i'm glad i opted for the sleeve. DOS 12/15/11 -

ProudGrammy replied to Mynewlife2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanx for writing - like i said i'm sure the dr. is fine, i should have explored more - its kindof buying the first car on the lot - maybe you should look at other cars too - but you just want to buy it and "get it over with" I know this does not sound the best, but i'm going to proceed. i just want to get this over with, ane start a new... i'm sure everything will be fine. but thanx for your thoughts -

ProudGrammy replied to Mynewlife2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi - i don't know if i goofed, hopefully not. When I decided i would have the sleeve i was so excited (still am!) There are 2 hospitals right by me - about 5 dr. that do the sleeve. I picked one, didn't really explore others like you talk about. he is from a hospital of excellence, when we met, went with DH, he seemed fine, nice and new what he was talking about. What i'm, trying to say is, i took the first dr. i met with, i should have explored more, and now i'm a little scared because he might not have been the best choice. I don't want to stop this process that has been going on for months - i'm sure he is fine, i know i should have checked other dr.s too - - me saying he's "fine" is probably right. but i also know i'm trying to convince myself. oh well - DOS 12/15/11 - really excited, nervous, a little scared of how i'll feel after the fact and how my recovery goes. but....... -
DOS is 12/6/11. Can't wait but..... i hope its ok that i cry here. My DH I are going to CA. on Friday for 4 days. to see my 81 yr. old mother We're flying to the west coast to help her after she fell and broke her pelvis.... She has tickets for a play (she'll use a wheelchair) but i don't have anything to wear. Trust me, she wanted me to buy something nice. I went to Kohl's nothing that fit or whatever. i didn't want to spend a lot of money on an outfit i won't wear again. I don't really go out, so the outfit would be a waste of MY money since i hopefully shouldn't be able to wear that size again. it seems my mother has always been ashamed of me and my weight. my other siblings are average weight. She knows i'm having the surgery, I'm afraid to call her and tell her, no new outfit, but i don't want to her to see me when I arrive arrive and get mad. BTW i'm 58 years OLD. Thanx for listening, writing this down has helped me through the tears. i don't know how to do a blog so here i am. thanx again for your ears kathy

The Waiting Game..until insurance approves Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
ProudGrammy replied to jasleeve's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Jasleeve - Phew I can sleep easy tonight LOL - Its good to have friends  :focus: If your insurance co. covers the surgery, and you have all the proper morbidities (msp) if you do have these problems thats good, of course its bad too . then you should be approved, but waiting is the pits. All I can say is keep after the dr.,'s office. Being nice of course so they possibly feel sorry for you, they know how badly you want & need this WLS - and hopefully sooner than later things will work out. Thats all I can say. I do know how hard it is not to constantly think about the WLS and of course your approval - but you have to take a bunch of deep breaths, just don't faint  So many people have been in your shoes waiting and waiting for approval (including me) - and being obsessive we all have been there. I know everybody here, hopes for good things for everyone, since we all want the same outcome. Good luck, i think we all hope are problems with our 2nd "family" work out. Be thinking about you :seeya:
