Gastric Sleeve Experts... Please Chime In!
ProudGrammy replied to lillita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First off - such big congratulations :cornut: you are a good one to follow your footsteps. My sleeve is 12/6/11. I see you had your lap band removed and did the sleeve. I see that looks popular to do.. Is the lapband so bad. (I chose not to do it, cuz i had some concerns like band slipping etc.) do you think they will stop doing the sleeve ? I'm so excited about getting my sleeve. I know i won't "cheat" (famous last words) I've weighed this 95 lbs too much forever. Effected my health, diabetes, sleep apnea etc. .... can't stand being out of breath etc. Of course none of us can afford to gain weight back. we all need to be successful. You said above - and this is what i thought too, that as long as you follow how you should - no this or that, only eat what you're supposed to, you MUST lose weight at a good speed. Right. Can you give us newbies some uplifting words of cheer or any advice?! thanx kathy -

Anything you wish you have known/done before surgery that you didn't?
ProudGrammy replied to OilSooner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 58 yr. young. Boy oh boy, i wish i had my WLS 30 yrs ago (dinasour (msp)era :nonod: i now have all these health issues, oh well, whats done is done,. So anxious for my surgery 12/6/11. I've gone to one support group so far. I was disappointed because just about everyone that was there were pre surgery like me :nonod: I was hoping to hear words of wisdom, and get some questions answered. As far as what I'm gonna bring to the hospital, i primarily will me, myself and I. DH is coming too. I don't think i'll be able to concentrate on anything, and probably be in pain. BTW - why does your side hurt so much/?? Don't understand that one. -
3rd day post op
ProudGrammy replied to bethk12@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i've heard about using those medicine cups, sounds like a good idea, then you'll be sure to drink slowly. I think I'lll just drink enough water at first, see how that goes. kathy -
me again:o) continuing post...lololo Sheila, i'm just starting my journey, WLS 12/6/11 - I am so scared things won't work out well, weight loss, then i see a post like yours, and i am so excited. I'm not scared of the surgery or stuff, anestesia (bad msp lolol) I'm worried big time will i eat the right foods, quantities etc. I know i won't eat too much, i have seen recipes on puter, i'm just confused about a recipe that makes 4 normal servings, and we only eat a few bites or so. i'm also concerned about drinking Water too fast at the beginning. Can't think of other concerns, they are out there though. Sheila, you've done so great, you give me hope!!! Keep on keepin on. Congrats kathy

SURGERY ON 11-14-11 :-)
ProudGrammy replied to dying2Bhealthy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi, lucky you, 11/15/11 surgery. I'm envious. My WLS isn't til 12/6/11. I've heard that you should wear there hopital gown, like you said. It has been said that it kindof gets bloody, yeach!! I'm gonna ask the dr. if i need my CPAP machine, overnight it sounds silly to go to all that trouble. I have only had the cpap machine about one year, i'm sure i will probably not need it eventually. The weird thing is, not only do i not mind wearing the cpap, i think it helps me to sleep longer!! So i'lll kind of be sorry to let it go!!! i'm sure you'll get through with your surgery with glowing reviews - best wishes for a new and healthier self :seeya: kathy -
At 2 months out, how much could you eat?
ProudGrammy replied to emily_0192010's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
t hi - i'm pre-surgery. DOS 12/6/11. Are there different sizes of the sleeve? The one thats the smallest lets you eat the least right? I know we drink the Protein shake only for a couple or weeks, correct? My dr. is not putting me on a early diet before surgery. What are sliders? I've heard that expression. Also this sound silly, but the smaller your slleve, the less you can eat, the less you should lose? right? I heard somewhere that after surgery since you're supposed to sip H20 so very slowly, she took a 1 oz little medicine cup of Water, and drank it slowly like that, 64 times - anyone else do this. How slowly did you guys drink. At some point soon I know I can drink more at once, but no gulping, right? Does everyone measure out 4 oz.? I've ready a couple of times that people take a bite here and there. But how do you do it later, when youre supposed to have more of a meal? Thanx for any info - any more stuff about eating too would be helpful. Thanx kathy -
Day 19 and I Can't Stop Smiling!
ProudGrammy replied to Monisue's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Monisu, welcome to the block - i'm one month pre-op, i love hearing all the stories, and info, stuff that i might go through later. Your info was helpful too I hope my surgery goes as smoothly as yours did. You're spreading good vibes;;; thanxl. I also looked into the lapband, i heard certain things i didn't care for i.e. good chances that band can slip. there is even a section that shows people who had the lapband, and then switched to the "sleeeve", that must show something, like the sleeve is better than the lapband. But.... in all fairness, i have been told by some on the board (for lapbands) that they were successful with the lapband. Whatever works right? I'm counting days down til my sleeve 12/6/11. So excited!! Time hopefully will fly by. :Banane06: keep on keepon on - Kathy -
What does your pre-op diet look like?
ProudGrammy replied to Sonja's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Sonja- i'm one month pre op. A couple of months ago, i figured i should eat now and forever hold my peace. :frown5: Well that was obviously a gigantic mistake. After all its not like i was going to die. Actually I was gonna start to live, right. I GAINED 15 lb.s!!! I've lost 1/2 of that. I plan to lose the rest before surgery . I know i can do it. Unfortunately i do have some obstacles. On Friday this week (the 11th) we're going to CA to visit my mom. I live in NY, so thats quite a hike. I know we'll be going out for some meals, esp. dinner. I really will try and be careful with choices I order. Nothing fried for sure/. We'll be home 11/16. Then we go to MA. for thanksgiving with all my siblings (5) thatl also live out of state. 11/23-11/24. The good thing is all this time is passing fairly quickly near my WLS. Now in 12 days 12/6/11 I finally have my surgery :clap2: . Can't wait, so very excited!! Woo Hoooooo -

ProudGrammy replied to BenisaMartim4's topic in Food and Nutrition
hey beni - I love your applesauce directions. How long is the "mushy" phrase? I dread that the most. mushy green beans, fish :confused5: is this done to get you ready for real food? could you skip it, and just do more shakes until your stomach is properly ready to carefully try real food? Chewed up in mouth of course one million times? huh, huh whats the good word. kathy
