3 Weeks Post Gastric Sleeve Op And Eating Real Food...
ProudGrammy replied to Queen of Crop's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm so confused :confused5: I'm pre-op 12/6/11 very excited. I thought you could eat so very later at this early stage. I thought you had to measure and only eat 3 oz., and i hear people can not always get that down. You're eating small portions right?? And how about H20, are you able to drink 62 oz., thats something that will be hard for me. (above i meant to say little instead of later on 1rst line) Drinking all that water sip by sip and still getting it down. I don't, i might not understand everything. Any info and help anyone can explain to me would be so nice. :help: kathy -
As far as pre-op "blues" I figured i didn't have a corner on this. I was so blue, i unfortunately did the worst thing in the world. I figured I would eat some food i should not have, since i know i couldn't later. I.E. Cookies, and other stuff like that :nonod: Over the past 6 weeks i actually have gained 20 lbs :confused5: Boy is it easy to gain weight. I'm so upset this happened. There's nothing i can do of course now. My dr. didn't require a 5% weight loss, so i over ate!! After Thanksgiving I'm gonna put myself on a strict liquid diet, maybe to lose 5-10 lbs. So i just wanted to unload. Thanx WLS 12/6/11 kathy :nonod:

Anyone Over 55 Had Gastric Sleeve Surgery ?
ProudGrammy replied to Jukecat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi all, I will be 58 in January - i am pre-op, sleeve 2b done 12/6/11 - can't wait, so very excited and a little nervous. I'm not that concerned about the WLS - its after the fact that scares me more. I'm worried about my drinking H20, and eating the proper amount of Protein. If anything I'm afraid I'll be so scared that i won't eat enough. I've heard that if you don't eat enough you could go into some type of starvation mode, and not lose more weight. So of course I won't do that. I will be totally honest and say that in the past month i've GAINED 20 lbs. its amazing how easy it is to gain. I just wanted to eat food that i couldn't eat later. I kind of over did it though. I know i have been told i eventually can eat anything, very very small portions, but I think thats a tease. Anyways, since I gained-I should be able to lose when I become sleeved right? That retorical (msp) because if i follow all the rules i should be able to lose like anyone else? Once again - so happy to be sleeved in a couple of weeks. See you all at the Water cooler, i'm buying :grouphug: kathy -
Hello From Atlanta
ProudGrammy replied to Candice1222's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi candice :welcome: the main thing i know for sure, practically everyone is different, they have their own speed for recovering as quickly as one week onward. Some people i've heard are back to work in a week or so. Others not for a couple of months. Not real helpful, but true. Also different weight loss in different time periods for all. I guess the main reasons for the above are that all our bodies are different and react differently. BTW My DOS is 12/6/11, can't wait, very anxious and a little nervous. One thing the same for all, we are all nice, and we have one thing in common: so we love to talk about stuff, ask questions, and get answers. By the way a big hello to GA. My daughter just moved to Peachtree City.!!!! so i wanted to make sure to send a yell. kathy -
Panicking And Fantasizing About Canceling -- Need Your Wise Words
ProudGrammy replied to CoffeeAndMagazines's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do understand your anxiety, nerves etc. I've had a few surgeries and trust me you won't wake up during surgery. you'll do fine with that. And you are right about you not having to panic til January, its much easier just to panic for a few days :smile1: My DOS isn't til 12/6/11. So here's to a great healthy new year healthy -

ProudGrammy replied to Kimma34's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi kim First off you're not going nuts, I still think about my sleeve so much during the day. So very anxious. Its perfectly normal. It seems like I've been waiting for the big day forever - Its finally almost here :tongue2: My DOS is 12/6/11. There is so I'm still trying to learn about after the surgery, thats what i am obsessed about. I know i have to drink shakes for Protein, but i hear that many can't keep that down and H20 is preferable at 1rst. So many other questions with reference to eating. So as you can see, i'm obsessed by the sleeve too, and i'm not nuts...well maybe alitte. kathy :seeya: -
didn't make it, found tickler file section, put stuff together, but didn't come on board. can anyone help me with VERY SIMPLE directions. thanx kathy

Lap Band Or Gastric Sleeve Surgery...losing My Mind
ProudGrammy replied to tamou37's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hi - i'm pre-op about 18 days. Since the board has a section concerning band to sleeve, it seems to me that the lap band just doesn't work that well, after people find that out, they "transfer" to having the sleeve put in. Good luck kathy -
thanx to all who wrote about my clothes dilema. I will look into a thrift shop, good idea. I don't want to spend money on clothes i hopefully will never need again. its nice to hear from you all, giving me your nice thoughts, i appreciate it, and will keep my chin up (both of them)LOL DOS is 12/6/11 - here i come..... kathy

ProudGrammy replied to Kimmer's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
hi all - i have Dr. Simon in Syracuse where I live - I have to admit he is in my area, but i didn't really explore looking around to other dr.s I probably should have - oh no oh no this is also being done as "center of excellence" also. i hope i didn't make a mistake DOS 12/61/1 kathy -
hi, i have medicare as my primary. they don't cover the sleeve, so it needs to be denied within 30 days AFTER the surgery, then my paper work is sent to my secondary ins. Empire BCBS I have been told by them i have been pre- approved but nothing is for sure til i get official good word. Then i'll breath easy. I have a BMI of 39, but I have 4 morbitities (right word?) Diabetes, high chlor & high blood pressure and sleep apnea. Isn't is great to have a bunch of problems? lololol even though i don't have the 40 BMI - with all my other probs-your opinion is i probably will be approved?

Nervous about side effects-Setting date on Monday
ProudGrammy replied to Joiebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
stupid question, how can you tell when your sleeve is full? Sounds like your stomach being full? Also i know you have to drink very slllllowly to avoid pain and gas, is that right? Also why does your shoulder hurt? Can i put ice in my water? I love ice. And can i eat hot stuff too? If not either, can you explain. Thanx kathy -

I found a perfect pair of black leggings and patterned purple blouse. For someone who's 58 - I look HOT!! but........ Mom just called to say she doesn't want us to go out after all cuz she is not feeling up to it.!!!! Jokes on me, after running around for 2 days, getting all upset, oh well its funny i guess. hi - my DOS is 12/6 and i am so excited also. i've also had other surgeries. chemo/breast cancer/knees/femur - been around the block too. I am not nervous "yet" more anxious to have it done. my main concern is AFTER the WLS. I just wil follow all the "rules" and do perfectly. I need to lose 95 lbs (that includes a little wiggle room) I really am so psyched. It seems like i've been waiting forever. Well we all have to wait (weight!!) a little more. nice to talk to december sisters, and maybe brothers are around too. See you around the Water cooler. I'll buy the first drink  kathy DOS 12/6

Ashamed of WLS?
ProudGrammy replied to Less of Leslie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, my WLS is around the corner 12/6/11. I can't wait. I have been heavy since i was a teenager - i'm 58. My mother always and still reminds me. I told my 35 yr old daughter who is always supportive of me whatever I do. In a weak moment i told my mom too. (i wish i had not) she's so happpy to be eventually seeing a normal size daughter. My 4 siblings are all normal weight, whatever that is. To tell or not, its up to individual of course In my case, my family has seen my ups and downs so much its just embarrassing. DH and I are going out of state to be with siblings for the holiday. Once more i weigh more than did last time. I think if i told them about the WLS Maybe i don't give my family enough credit, but i feel they would think, "easy" way out, etc. But we all know there is nothing easy about this. I think people actually think we wake up one morning and take a magic pill, and all of a sudden are thin, thats why they think its easy. Oh well. I wish there was a magic pill o( Oh well, I think a great many people decide not to tell many. But on the other hand, some have no problem telling ) Whatever choice you make will be the right one for you. Continued good luck - Kathy -
