The Cons Of Gastric Sleeve Life! :-(
ProudGrammy replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not ALWAYS hot, but I definitely get warm, hotter doing simple things like tying my shoes, just bending over to put on my socks etc. Huffing and puffing (we all know about that) when you walk, I can't wait til that stuff doesn't happen anymore. I also agree, i would rather be a little cold and have to wear a nice sexy sweater to get warm :smile1: There is always snuggling up w/my DH in front of our gas fireplace  kathy DOS 12/6/11 egads so soon, but "so far away" -
Weight Gain Before Gastric Sleeve Surgery
ProudGrammy replied to mxmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i am totally amazed (and maybe a little glad) to see that i am not the only one who has gained wt. prior to WLS. I also have been having these "last suppers" - only to have gained. my DOS is 12/6/11- i am so excited. tomorrow morning i will wake up to a "self imposed" liquid diet. dr. didn't require. i will hopefully lose 3-4 lbs. Five whole days to do so before my WLS next week. I have kicked myself too much in anger over what has happened. I'm a little black and blue :cheated: its over, nothing i can do - except stop doing it - and get back on the wagon, and stay there of course w/the help of the sleeve. I'm so so so very excited, nervous, anxious, scared, but mainly excited to start my new healthier life. :thumbup1: kathy dos - very soon 12/6/11 -

ProudGrammy replied to poisonbeauty1's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
hi cludgie your weight loss is terrific, my dos as 12/6/11 - i hope i can do as well as you have done this past year. things are coming up roses for you - be happy  kathy -
I had my pre-op testing today 11/28/11. I was so nervous, and anxious. I didn't understand why at first, but then I realized I was one step closer to my WLS which is Tuesday 12/6/11. I can't believe it, I've been waiting for this day for a long time, yes i'm scared and nervous for WLS, but i am sooo excited too. I know I will be having more "nervous attacks" - but i'm so happy my big day is finally almost here. My DH came to appt. with me, he always does - and this is how we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary! He keeps saying something "he is still waiting to be paroled" I then say "no you got a life sentence" :kiss2: I'm sure i'll talk at ya later expressing my anxiousness, fears, excitement and whatever else comes along. Thanx for your ears :bigear: Kathy DOS 12/6/11

Super Weak - Please Help!
ProudGrammy replied to Veda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi Veda - I'm so sorry you're feeling weak. :sorry: My goodness you're able to accomplish things that i've heard are hard. Getting all your H20 and Protein in and even starting towards a marathon :youcandothis: But you are allowed to be tired, taking naps etc. You're doing everything right - I think time will make you better - one day at a time right? You're surgery being only a couple of weeks ago (11/18/11) get off your back. You will feel better soon. Keep doing what you are doing - and being a bit of a couch potato :behindsofa: is totally allowed after what you've been through. Think of the great things ahead that are coming up.- don't worry about being tired now - you''ll get past this. If everything else is going well, don't sweat the small stuff :welldone2: take care P.S. I haven't even had my surgery yet, but this is consolidated stuff i've heard, I hope it was ok that i gave my 2 cents before surgery. sending good wishes toward you kathy DOS 12/6/11 -
A Curious Question If Any Can Help....
ProudGrammy replied to LeLe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I only had 2 appt. with the NUT - but I am told, assured to call anytime, which I've already done a couple of times. yes i am having surgery in US. Syracuse, NY to be exact. ? to people that had surgery out of country, how does it work when/if you have problems? who do you talk to, or if you need immediate physical help? What do you do? Just curious. I was just wondering for a little more info about eating if anyone wanted to say anything, even if i would just be reassured about stuff. kathy -
A Curious Question If Any Can Help....
ProudGrammy replied to LeLe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
jassleeve and Thomas CPA,I am pre-op and also concerned about getting my necessary Protein daily. Can i always, at anytime period in the future have a Protein shake here or there for continued protein? or is it better to get protein from foods, like chicken. A few bites of chicken here and there couldn't possibly have enough protein, could it? I just want to do well in the proper foods and drinks are needed to eat well. I've had surgeries, so i'm, not worried about the actual surgery, the anesthia (msp).etc. I'm not worried that I will over eat and stuff, as i said above, i'm just scared i won't, or won't know the proper foods to get into my stomach. :help: Kathy  DOS 12/6/11 -
Gastric Sleeve Surgery Denied!
ProudGrammy replied to EnjoyingWhoIAmBecoming's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
EnjoyWhoIAmBecoming I am so very sorry for you being denied. You have every right to be sad and cry :cryin: for a while, only. You need all your strength to fight for your rights :fencing: And of course you are correct having the WLS , ins. co. doesn't realize how stupid they are, and they should look at the whole picture. :seeya: Ins. Co. should approve all that are qualified for WLS. After all, the cost for the ins. company taking care of people with major issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesteral (msp), sleep apnea is more expensive over a life time than WLS costs them. Why can't they see that? Yes, WLS will make you look better, and feel better about yourself (which is really good). But that is secondary to all the health issues that WLS will cure, why can't they see that. :noidea: Good wishes in your fight. I have confidence in you. :thumbup1: kathy -
Off To The Hospital!
ProudGrammy replied to Living again 11/17/2011's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi longer-life - i see your helpful posts alot so i thought i would finally respond. I see you had your WLS almost 2 weeks ago. How are you? feeling, looks like you are doing great :Dancing_wub: How are you doing now that days are passing. Better day by day right. 12 lbs down, congrats :welldone2: I would love to hear about your immediate days post-op if you would like to share. You probably have posted stuff already, but can you say some more words of encouragement. My post-op is tomorrow 11/28/11- then the following tuesday 12/6/11 - I will finally be sleeved :smile1: - like most others, I'm soooo very excited, happy, but of course a little nervous, feeling kind of overwhelmed. Long journey ahead - depending on how you look at it my journey is done with sleeve flinally accomplished, but of course my journey actually is just starting. Anxious to be a healthier, happier kathy Keep feeling better, you will continue to do great. I feel it in my bones!!! Best kathy -
hi all you fellow shoppers :party4: I used to love to shop. Not so much though for quite awhile. park close to the store car so I only walk a pretty short distance to the store entrance. (this will change after i start losing weight) But I just get more and more pooped while walking, many probably have the same feeling :sad0: Thats why i especially hate to shop, look around, walk some more, i'm just so pooped. I always use one of those shopping carts to hold me up better making it easier to walk. When I'm with my DH he gives me his arm and things work much better. I think people just think i'm walking w/hubby, how sweet) they don't know I'm kindof huffing and puffing. I need to lose just about 100 lbs. Its never been that, its always been 50 lbs, then somehow it got to 65 etc., now 100 OMG. :focus: anyways - i kept some of my beautiful smaller clothes to maybe wear after I lost weight. But I decided to get rid of them so i would buy new to reward myself. The other day I went shopping cuz i needed to buy something for a gathering, but i didn't want to spend much since i hoped i wouldn't wear a big size later. Well i passed these lovely clothes from sweaters, blouses, pants etc. - of course they were way too small - at first I was so sad :nonod: But then i looked again at the clothes saying ahhhhh, I will be able to fit into these clothes sooner than later, or at least gradually smaller sizes. So once again i looked at the clothes and smiled. :biggrin2: What an attitude huh? So shopping will happen soon, I won't be as out of breath and things will continue to go better :hurray: Fellow December Diva kathy

5 Days Post-op Only But I Need More Than Jello...help?
ProudGrammy replied to md071273's topic in Food and Nutrition
hi lissa i have seen many of your helpful answers to posts. So here goes. I am pre-op DOS 12/6/11. I'm excited, nervous, a little scared about having the surgery. But what I'm the most scared of is not eating correctly. I am supposed to eat 3oz per meal, correct? So if I have broth for lunch for example, thats all i eat 3oz, no more til dinner? correct? this is especially right after the WLS when my stomach is starting to get use to liquids and eventually mushie stuff and then food, correct? Sip, sip, sip H20 and walk around alot, hopefully rest a little too, but i know walking is very important too. Immediately after my surgery, how much SF popsicle can i eat? How do I measure that, along with SF Jello? I like both, how much can i eat? Is this like the 3oz per meal, or is it like drinking Water, no limit? That doesn't make sense, so i'm confused. Could you give me a little help about what to eat immediately post op. Thanx :help: kathy -
I've heard you can have SF popsicles & SF jello after WLS - is this unlimited? Are there other items similar, unlimited.

hi all - went out of state to be with family for the holiday - tried to curb my eating. Decided to tell one of my sisters about the WLS. I was shocked - she is so excited for me :hurray: She didn't understand why i was so apprehensive to tell her (or others) Well, all people react differently to this matter. Really glad I told her, she's so happy I know she will be supportive. I really haven't told others except my mom and daughter (both out of state) My pre-op is monday, sleeve one week from tuesday, 12/6/11. I'm getting so very nervous. Within the past 2 months I have flown :plane: to CA. to be with 81 yr old mom who fell and broke her pelvis - went to GA. to visit my daughter, son-in-law, but more importantly my 3 grandkids Now I just came back from MA. (for thanksgiving) to be with 4 siblings, in-laws, nieces & nephews, phew I have not flown this much since... actually i have never flown this much - man oh man are my arms tired :tongue2: But.... do to all this busy stuff, time really has gone by quickly which makes me so excited. BTW I live in NY. Can't believe my big day is finally around the corner. like so many other december sleevers - i'm a little scared, anxious, just wanting to get it over with and start my new healthy life to go through the end of the year - then out with the old - to start a new great year tomorrow and forever., starting and continuing with success til the end of the year, and through 2012 and then forever more being healthy thanx for listening  kathy

I Think I'm Getting A Cold!
ProudGrammy replied to Less of Leslie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi, i am not sure, but if you're going to have surgery they would prefer you not being sick, in case of any complications that may occur. On the bright side you have a few days to get rid of this "potential" cold. You're doing the right thing with trying to nip it in the bud w/meds and taking care of yourself. Speak to the dr. in a couple of days w/a report of how your are feeling. Its a bummer for this to happen now, but you must tell your dr. Wishing you good health - with a great sleeve 2 come. Kathy -
DOS 12/6/11 - unfortunately dr. didn't require pre-op liquid diet, i figured i would get it out of my system and eat while the eating is good I gained 17 lbs.!!! I'm so upset. I can't really blame the dr., but since no pre-op required I ate and ate. I'm so very upset :hurt: I am putting myself on a liquid protein diet til my 12/6/11 WLS. If I can lose 5 lbs. i'll feel a little better. Did anyone else mess up like i did? Gain weight before surgery by going off on the deep end? Am I the only one :noidea: Well whats done is done.... i wish i could turn the clock back. Tomorrow is a new day - and protein shake here i come. kathy

1st Post And Need Advice!
ProudGrammy replied to luv-a-bull's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, first off, rant away - this is the place to do so. we all understand. First off i'm sorry due to your time off from work you had to tell people about the WLS. As far as doing a Protein shake, or more excercise, etc. etc. etc. what business is it of theirs?!!!! Of course you're doing this for you, your health and all those important things. Anyone that gives you negative feedback, especially if their supposed to be your friends, are no friends of yours, so to speak. - telling you horror stories about the WLS and that people they know have gained back weight etc. OMG - this is unbelievable to me that they would say this. But for whatever reason, there are people like this saying this stuff, full of doom and gloom - try and ignore them. I know its easier said then done. Sorry I can't think of any witty things to say to these" "PEOPLE". They are obviously not nice and get pleasure on putting other people down for whatever crazy reason they think they have. Whether, their jealous or just normally nasty. Ignore them . You're the only one you need to do this for, and ignore those others. Your new and healthier life begins soon, 12/13/11! All though I've never been to Bowling Green Ohio - it sounds like a great place , after all its a founder of you right! Head and chin up - you'll do great, all your fellow sleevers are right behind you blowing like the wind all those nasty people who say those horrible things into the air and out of the galaxy. Hope I helped a little kathy -
Someone Chime In / Respond Please
ProudGrammy replied to Sushe's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi sushe :welcome: I've seen you at the Water cooler, just never said hi :seeya: You look different now that you've lost 34 lbs i didn't recognize you. Wow you look great.. How do you like your newly "installed" sleeve? I can tell it fits you like a glove. I don't get many responses either, maybe cuz i'm always hanging around at that darn water cooler :drool5: Don't worry, everyone around here acts like a buddy, so i'm sure people will talk at ya. Please don't worry about "failing" you just started - i know you can turn it around and feel optimistic. You'll do great. Everybody who is either pre-op or post op WLS says basically follow the rules, and you'll do fine. Drink , drink and then drink - but remember not for about 30 minutes after you eat. have your Protein etc. You'll be fine -you'll have so many friends you will have trouble counting them. Consider me a friend too :hurray: kathy DOS 12/6/11 - can't wait, soooo very excited, a little nervous too -
food funerals is the best way to express myself, as said by Lissa above. since i knew i would not be able to eat my favorite foods in larger quantities, and all the wrong stuff like sweets so, I've been stuffing my face :cryin: My dr. did not require me to lose weight pre-surgery. I wish he had. The bottom line is I gained 20 lbs. Yes you read that right. I must be the only one in sleeve history to have gained weight before surgery. Today is Tuesday 11/22/11. I started today my own liquid shake diet. thanksgiving we will be out of town. :No one knows about my WLS, and I'm going to keep it that way.. So 11/22,11/23 on liquids- thanksgiving will eat soooo carefully, and 11/26 I will be back on the liquids. That gives me 12 days liquid to lose maybe 5 lbs. DOS is 12/6 - can't wait!!! Pretty bummed about what I did to myself, nothing will change it, no going back, so i know i got to get over myself, and look to the future, like all of us do. thanx for listening :bounce: Kathy

Please Do Not Ignore Signs From Your Body!
ProudGrammy replied to Happy Camper's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
DOS 12/6/11 do the drains hurt especially when removed? what does it feel like? how long did you have drains. i was so excited about surgery, but now i'm hearing a few too many horror stories. don't worry i'm still very excited about WLS, but a little more concerned now that i could be one of the exceptions to the rules, and have problems, maybe severe. :blush5: kathy -
