flyingsaucer if it was me (which it isn't) i would postposne the "tentative" date to surgey to make sure WLS is after you come home from great trip.. I do know one person on this board who did absolutely great on her trip through Europe after her sleeve. I just could not do that, seeing all those exotic foods and stuff and smelling them , my mouth is watering. My choice would be take your last fling on a wonderful once in a world lifetime trip to Europe, then come back to the real world and start your great WLS journey best wishes kathy

Putting The Scale Away
ProudGrammy replied to Joiebean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ncs-great idea about putting the scale away. but not weighting yoursef for a month.....hmmm i think i would go crazy!! i am really doing well about weighing once a week. I see some people weigh themselves daily, hourly, etc. not meaning to laugh but oh well different strokes for different folks. best to us all kathy -
Hi Cobra I DID have a catheter put in in while i was under, so obviously it didn't hurt at all. Shorly after i was put in my room as they were about to remove the catheter, the nurse said relax and before i knew it - catheter was gone. Don't stress over it. There was no problem. Plus it is up to the discression of the Dr. if you do or don't have a catheter. Have a "great" surgery... and don't worry about things beyond your control. Best kathy

You will get used to drinking 64oz oz liquid, gradually of course, Eating less, etc. with the sleeve, it will all come together. Everyone will say you are now going on your journey...enjoy best kathy -
I Am 3 Weeks Post-Op With Vertical Sleeve And So Excited!
ProudGrammy replied to DisneyMom4419's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi, when i first approaced my PHP he totally approved the WLS from the beginning, he suggested the lap band - luckily during my first "introduction" seminar - after hearing all the info about both the lap band, and sleeve, i chose the latter. What a good life changing decision.kathy -
What Causes Stalls Usually?
ProudGrammy replied to Kiki Von Moonshine's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
hey chicke,"scientific reason" - not that i can think! LOL hi Kiki Stalls - could be the 2nd day of the week, or groundhogs day! or your 2nd mother cousin once removed.! really, you can stall at any time with any rhyme or reason - it just happens, and you can't prevent it, no matter how well you eat, or how much you exercise - it just happens to all of us, short, tall, male or female! we can't prevent it - sorry kinki - fact of the sleeve - which we still love kathy good luck -
hi kjnt the good news - i've heard that medicare is in the process of thinking strongly the credentials for the sleeve, and i hear they might accept the sleeve shortly/eventually!! Thats only hearsay, but look into, stranger things have happened. I don't know what medicare/human is? sorry when i applied for sthe sleeve in november - it was explained to me that Medicare does not accept the sleeve, no if's and or buts - so the procedure to get approved is this ...... you have to go into surgery kind of blind folded - your hospital will send bill after surgery to Medicare, (can't do it before surgery for some rules by medicare- who then will officially deny surgery for after the required 30 days. then the bill has to be returned to hospital - where hospital will proceed to send bill to your secondary insurance (if you have) luckily i do have BCBS from my old employers. Then the sleeve will be officially accepted, if you meet all the required morbities and BMI.. Sounds like congress approving a bill?! I did have long discussions with BCBS prior to WLS who said i was unofficially approved, they were pretty sure... but nothing was in paper. so i went on with my surgery my WLS was 12/15/11 - and i was officially totally approved 2 months later!! long story, but tru - hope i explained it right - actually, sadly true kathy good luck

Medical Bracelets
ProudGrammy replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what i was trying to say is that if you are in an emergencey situatiion - questions are being asked left and right about any medical conditions you have - like diabetes, epilepsy - these are important conditions that are relative to any problems concerning an emergency - but maybe passing out at restaurant, well.... i'm rereading this, i still don't feel a bracelet is necessary, a friend with you would tell of your WLS -regardless answering the question i don't feel a WLS bracelet is bracelet. IMO But if it makes you feel better to wear it, then thats ok too, How is that for a no answer, answer. Sorry Kathy best wishes -
Medical Bracelets
ProudGrammy replied to Stacey Nicole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hello stacey nicole I am wear a medical bracelet NSV. IMO, i don't think it would be necessary to wear any type of bracelet signfying a "medical condition" of WLS - if you are at a restaurant, and they question you about using a childs portion, you can just give them some sort of explanation if you feel its warrented - but if you are rushed to the hospital for whatever - have had WLS shouldn't be reletive to any procedures. If all is well, and you just have to mention certain medical conditions - then yes "by the way" I have had WLS. kathy -
hi fellow sleevers a couple of years ago, i had several orthopedic problems, amongst them breaking my femur,,left knee replacement, and now having the right knee with a knee replacement, just to name a few. i want to say many others might have similar problems contrbuted by excess weight. i went to my orthopedic dr. several months ago to start the plans toward having the knee replacement - as soon as i mentioned that i would be having the sleeve in December 2011 - he put the brakes on. Told me he would love to see me lose some weight. (just saying recovery would be easier, PT) Of course that made perfect sense, but i really wanted my knee surgery. I did decide to wait, and will have the surgery 4/26/12. I have lost 38 lbs so far - my dream would be to lose another 12 lbs, but any excess lost would be welcomed. this just reinforced when we lose a little of weight, we obviously inch fowards, our health does improve in various ways. I won't be able to run around with my grandkids, but at least i might be able to catch up. kathy

hi all for the most part i've been doing really well w/my sleeve - temporary setback w/hospital dehydration - my question is -i have seen people on this board that have had sooo many problems (leaks, stents etc) - i'm one of the lucky ones that have had an easy ride. I feel kind of guilty cuz things have gone well for me since my DOS 12/15/11.- i feel bad for unlucky ones, sounds silly but... is it ok for me to feel good for my history? kathy
