Does Anyone Have Any Regrets?
ProudGrammy replied to betterthanbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
betterthanbefore not meaning to sound redundant, but................................at 58 yrs young - my only regret about the surgery is, i wish this WLS had been available to me 30 yrs ago. Now i do have the morbitities (msp) like diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure & chloresterol - hopefully i will find out soon that some of these problems are going to be gone or improved sooner than later. i see people in there 20's & 30's on the board, boy that must be so terrific to get the WLS at such a young age, hopefully before they get any health problems. kathy best kathy -
I Wasnt Expecting To Be In This Much Pain...
ProudGrammy replied to thinkingskinny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thinkingskinny remember, we all heal differently, just like we all lose weight at different time periods. The one constant is that we're all different. i totally understand your frustration concerning your aches and pains. Having to take pain meds all the time, no fun. But, if the meds do help, which it sounds like they do - take the meds and be happy they do the trick. Don't worry about being doped up alittle. You are entitled to get a lot of rest. yes i see on the board all the time that people were doing well in a quick amount of time, never had any pain - went back to work in a few days, i know i've heard it all too. so it must be hard for you to hear when you are in your condition, besides this pain will go away - sounds like you are recupperating nicely. otherwise. Some people have complications and stuff so be happy you are not in that boat. i know that doesn't help your present situation though. I think i'm just going in circles saying what you probably know: take your pain meds, and you will feel better, sooner than later. as far as your liquid intake - most people have trouble getting Protein shakes in those first few days after surgery. it is more important to drink liquids (Water, broth, popsicles) don't let yourself get dehydrated.. get better soon best wishes take care kathy -
Truth Moment: Does It Piss Anyone Else Off To Hear People Say The Surgery Is The Easy Way Out? Or You Could Just Stop Eating.
ProudGrammy replied to Anewlifeforme23's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i really don't understand the big problem with the answer to this question. I simply tell whomever asks... that i am watching my weight by watching Proteins (msp), my carbs etc....and excersizing. that is it.. these are all true statements kathy -
Hard Time Dealing And Trying To Stay Away From Old Habits...
ProudGrammy replied to frpringle's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
fpringle OMG i am so sorry for your poor little 3 yr old son. I know it will take time for him to physically & mentally heal. But thank goodness your DH was in the vicinty to help when your wonderful smart little 5 year old ran for help. now onto you - you have done so amazing 125 lbs. gone... congrats but now returning to some old bad habits? Stop, Stop Please don't go backward. I know thats so easy to say - you've done so amazingly well the stress your enduring must be so difficult. Just take a breath, its been so difficult for your family what happened to your little son, but would they want to see you suffer now by going back to bad eating habits. Your 3 yr old wouldn't understand, but trust me the 5 yr would know mommy is doing something different (i have a 5 yr old grandson, he would be smart enough to know something is different) Please don't make this awful acicident cause you to go back to comfort foods. You've come too far - and i know you want to continue this wonderful journey. Your little son will be ok and continue to heal please its your turn to do the same best kathy -
1 Year Out :)
ProudGrammy replied to Denise's New Life's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Denise's new better life you are amazing - what an accomplishment. You have worked so hard and long to get where you are. We all work hard, no question about that, not to minimize anyone elses accomplishment. (mine too) But when you have a little more weight to lose, that must be extra hard. I hope you are giving yourself the credit you deserve. Don't hurt yourself too much - but i hope you are reaching behind you and patting yourself on the back. Don't really have to tell you to "keep up the good work"...but" keep up the good work." so happy for you. may all the days in front of you continue to be terrific happiness kathy -
Rods Wife OMG - give yourself a break - at 4 days many, many people are still recuperating. walking very slowly, sipping water - this is what many newbies do. For you to walk around the block - thats probably ok, but don't overdue it. No marathons, you are recovering from MAJOR surgery. Give yourelf sometime - and you will be there with the other losers, but you'll be a winner. ksthy

Sleeve Capacity At Eight Weeks Seems More Than It Should Be
ProudGrammy replied to Dooter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My NUT told me to fill a 1/3 measuring cup - thats all i get to eat each meal Egads, i asked her when will that increase, she said "when you get to goal". In all honesty i add a "little" more to the 1/3 cup sometimes, not much though. I wish i was allowed to officially eat a cup and a halp, oh well...maybe in another life time... I always have Soup during the day, and a popsicle for desert. I do have trouble getting my 64 oz of liquid in. kathy -
HopeThruFaith i am 3..5 months post op - i burp all the time, during meal time I mean When i am eating I think the sleeve might be telling me I've had enough. Sometimes thats true, and i'll stop in a couple of miutes. Other times, i just started to eat and i still burp. Oh well kathy

What Happens On The First Appoinment?
ProudGrammy replied to Shaniceh01's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi ShaniceMedicare did not accept the Sleeve for me. Luckily I had BlueCrossBlueShield as my secondary insurance through my office. I was never told/asked to have any 6/3 month dietary program. kathy -

ProudGrammy replied to Kareforme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Hospitals Not Hiring Those With Bmi's Over 35
ProudGrammy replied to thinoneday's topic in The Lounge
I was ironically at a dr.s office yesterday when i saw this "news" on CNN - unbelievable - can't wait to see how it will be responded to. Obviously such an outbreak will occur - just how will it be treated - with such a tentative outpour of all. One more discimination obese people endure. -
lilttle confused, i read your sleeve stopped working at 2 years - is that correct - so after that we just eat properly on our own, no help from sleeve? the sleeve is only a tool after all. thanx kathy

seadla i'm so sorry for all you have gone through.- car accident, pains, hurt, orthopedic surgeries - omg. So much you have endured. you have come to the right place -you will get a lot of support here from wonderful people that want to listen to you and help the best they can. even if you just want to vent, we're here to listen. in your case i think thats totally acceptable. to vent. I also had steri-strips, and they come off diisolve in there own sweet time Do you have a nutritionist to talk to and give you advise. The first few weeks i was only drinking liquids - soft food later, Example an egg - but all NUTS (short for nutritionist) are different. ask any questions too, we'll try and answer them to the best of our cababillity. remember, always consult your PHP with any medical questions that we can't help with. feel better good luck kathy -

Knee Replacement
ProudGrammy replied to ProudGrammy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi karen sorry you have been going through your share of orthopedic problems too. our weight sure does not help does it? having the sleve is a great decision., see you on the board. May will be here before you it. Your new life and wonderful journey starts then. nice chatting with you kathy -
hi all i am having my right knee replacement 4/26/12 - i'm getting very anxious, nervous. It's just one more surgery I will have. Like WLS i'm not afraid of the actual surgery, "dying" on the table, or anything. all that good stuff. I also know i will physically be better with knee replacement and helping with helping with my weight. What alway scares/makes me nervous etc. - is the after effect of a surgery the work involved healing, taking care of myself properly, With the WLS every thing went fine and i've lost 47+ lbs with eating correct portions and correct food.etc. BTW everything is going fine, just as I hoped. DOS 12/15/11. But...i had the left knee replaced about 5 years ago, and that was terrible. After i came too i hurt so much, and all the PT hurt and was so hard. I will go to PT rehab (birchwood I think) but its hard Now I'll have the right knee replaced - since i've gone through this before, it might go easier since i know what to expect or not...thanx for listening to me vent. i'm sure i'll be back with same subject. thanx board for listening to me and just being "you" best of luck to me kathy
