Things You Wish You Knew/did/didn't Do Before Your Procedure....

hi Melissa congratulations on your pending sleeve - we're all excited before being sleeved. I was one of those horrible people that did go on a food "funeral" eating way too much - like i was never going to eat them again. its not true that you can't have whatever you want later after surgery, just in small portions. i'm 6 months post op - never never eaten a sweet, cuz that is my BIG downfall. i don't want to eat a "little" bit, thats like teasing myself. My advice pre-op concerning the food, you can eat a little more before your WLS, but don't overdue. i regret pigging out too much. whats done is done. 6 months post up im down 75 lbs - 20 left - so i've done pretty well. some people do lose some hair. i was one the lucky ones - that didn't have any problems with hair loss. the subject has been spoken of the board - so write a question. my other regret is that i never did i BLOG. you've obviously got that covered -good for you best wishes good luck kathy
  2. I definitely don't think you should go to any of the above events, no way no how Now, not to waste the tickets, where do i meet you to pick up MY free tickets go the shows and enjoy them. since you are only pre-op, you can really eat legally have fun at the bachelorette and bridal shower too ,if you want to curb what you eat, good for you many of, us, including myself went on food funerals before surgery, eating more than necessary cuz you figure you will never eat real food again. that is not true, just smaller portions. sounds like you are in control though, you probably eat less anyways. good for you ps don't lock yourself in your room, i don't have the key good luck on your pending WLS kathy

    I Was Sleeved June 19Th

katrina81 congrats on having the sleeve, doing so well now, and continueing for a great recovery. keep drinking alot of fluids - drink as much as you can. Dehydration is no fun. even though you might feel like you can eat solids sooner than later, do all the proper stages that your NUT/dr. tell you. you shouldn't jump ahead of yourself, just follow all the rules enjoy the start of your new life kathy
  4. Kiki Von Moonshine Since we don't have as much weight being carried around, it makes sense that you are slightly cooler in the summer, or should i say not as hot - which is the same thing. not as much perspiration in the summer - woooo that sounds good. I used to "carry" some suitcases in the summertime with my excess weight, now that i'm not carrying them, i'm cooler. In the winter since my suitcases are gone (no excess weight) you will be cooler. too. this will be the 1rst summer and winter i will be dealing w/this - so new experience for me too. stay cool/warm kathy

    After Wls No Sagging Skin

susan i'm 58 years young, so i agree that no one would see me except my DH. I don't wear shorts, or bathing suit - and again at my age, still young though, don't wear skimpy things either you are also right that a little sagging makes up for my ex heaviness couldn't afford surgery anyways best kathy

    Applebees

jff me again, just wanted to say at 6 months out i haven't gone out to a meal period. I'm a little scared This Saturday night though i'm going to try and be brave and go to Red Lobster with DH. I love this restaurant - and i know it has many good choices. I will take a lot of food home, and i will keep my mitts off those yummy rolls. they are so good congrats on being good with your liquids only and no food at the restaurant- you shall overcome BTW - what a good son you are taking mom out for her b'day remember food is around the bend continued good luck kathy

    Diabetes

Brandy78 before i was sleeved my surgeon told me the sleeve doesn't always get rid of diabetes - the longer you had diabetes the less chance you will be rid of diabetes. (completely) I've had for 20 year But dr still said i might be rid of the diabetes, or at least improve. I was sleeved 12/15/11 - hospital stopped my medicine until i go to my PHP - when i saw my dr. he told me to stay off meds. he monitored me periodically, my numbers are good, but not as low as we wish. will find out soon if i have to go back on lower dosage of meds. thats my story kathy

    Extremely Tired

ladyarwenrose does your supervisor know whats going on with you as far as being pre-surgery, are you taking much time off from work post surgery. now for you - you are all of a sudden taking a lot less calories. it must be very hard on you. that must make you so tired. yes, talk to your dr. for his help. you are only pre-surgery - you need help now, after post op you'll probably be tired again - so nip this in the bud. meds can definitely affect your situation - all of a sudden your taking in so few calories, the body is saying, whats going on here? hope you get an answer/help soon take care of yourself be well kathy

    Applebees

jffjacobs you are doing terrific.- such restraint is most important and you are doing wonderful - and you are at the beginning, liquid phase WOW this is so hard cuz you are just starting your sleeve, self control, not eating normally and in this case, watching others eat. best wishes through your journey kathy

    So Frustrated!

hmmmm, you said a mouthful dh and i always went out to eat, always (he needs to lose weight too) Any reason any time we went out to eat. It could have been tuesday at 2:27, we would Celebrate and go out. groundhogs day , 2nd thursday of the month We don't go out anymore, so yes, we are saving tons of money Rdoatv - In all honesty - i a do wish you didn't have to deal with these financial problems. Its too bad that all insurances do not cover the sleeve yet - it will happen - later than sooner good luck kathy

Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?

got2bthin The above might be true (losing weight faster RNY) - but whats your hurry? You want this WLS done properly and successfully and results being the healthiest. Yes, it has been said that we are the sleeve group and a little bit biased - but the truth is - IMO go with the sleeve. Much better do your research - but i hope you come to the right decision and join our group in sleeveland good luck kathy
