Ready To Get This Surgery!
ProudGrammy replied to cjloveydovey's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
cjlovydovey congrats on your young age all different ages here - from 19-70+ many people on this board comment on how they wish they had done the sleeve earlier. I'm 58 (not that old) but.... i wish i had the opportunity to do the sleeve much earlier hopefully you will hear the good word from the insurance company soon and then get your WLS date. there are many "quirks" as you put it regarding dealing with the sleeve. With time you will learn them all Water is one of the most important things you have to deal with. any liquids, and popsicles. After you heal, continue to drink - should be 64 oz. a day. You are not supposed to drink with your meals. Then you must wait 45 minutes after you eat, before you can drink again. Different NUTS will give various different time periods and advise. all NUTS and doctors are different. Listen only to your NUT and doctor. Do not compare your progress with others, problems, weight etc. - you will have your own experiences that will differ from others. so much to say about the way of life with the sleeve, yet so little time to tell read the board, will get alot of good info that will help you with dealing with your new sleeve. Ask any and all questions. Thats what we're here for. then you can "pass it forward" and help some other Newbie after you've been around the block for awhile good luck kathy -
Houston17 hi there. This waiting game is very difficult medical review board, all that stuff before you can get your official ok then waiting for the date fingers and toes are crossed good luck kathy

News Story In Dfw - Very Sad!
ProudGrammy replied to funkeechiggen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
funkeechiggen thanx for sharing this very sad, but noteworthy article we are all here for the same reason, to lose weight and keep it off forever and a day. whether you are overweight, obese or morbidly obese (I'm talking about all People)- is such a huge health problem. many different health issues happen from being overweight etc...we all know this the whole world should all lose weight. This is advertised and spoken enough about but being heavy is partially due to all the fast food places, junk food - and just all the readily available food vending machines and more that are so hard to resist. Also all soda with that sugar. Not to mention all the gigantic amounts of food we eat and eat and eat we all need to be accountable for ourselves. we're putting the food in our mouths - nobody is making us eat. very sadly this is going to this generation of kids, being overweight - then obesity continuing into adulthood. i hope that some normal sized people who are gaining weight, or the people who are in bad weight condition already, will think about this article and maybe work at their weight. Thats being a little optimistic but i can always have hope I speak of all of the above with the knowledge that i WAS among those many people. that I was morbidly obese. Now we on the board are taking care to make ourselves healthy again with the help of the sleeve. this is such a sad story - the woman being only 29 - but her poor 5 kids losing there mom. too kathy -
courtney333 all people are different in there experiences both pre-op & post op. I'm glad you are not nautious or seem to be having other problems. don't ever compare yourself to others concerning anything, especially your weight. Some people lose weight quickly, others not as fast. but you you, and live with the happiness of enjoying your sleeve at whatever pace. at this early stage, liquids are very important. They always will be. Drinking 50 oz. this early in the game is absolutely terrific. Drinking plenty of Water is always essential really too early to be so concerned about calories. congrats on your sleeve kathy

Maybe I Shouldn't Do This
ProudGrammy replied to NHJulie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NHJulie hi there - think within yourself, be sure if you really want this surgery, its a very important decision ask yourself the following question Can i lose my weight on my own, without regaining the weight Be Succesful Staying on Maintenance? if the answer to the above is yes, i won't regain the weight - then no surgery is necessary if the answer to the above is no, I will probably regain the weight then surgery is a very good option good luck on your decision kathy -
Laurabr1 it will be worth it the stuff the nurse told you I don't understand - but she must be saying what she was told to say, the orders of the dr. i would speak w/dr and nurse to ask questions about why you are to do this. Get all necessary infomation. make sure you understand everything, take notes if you want, maybe bring someone along. good luck on pending surgery kathy

What Cant You Eat Now?
ProudGrammy replied to JentryB2020's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
juliewantsbthin some food items that people eat just "don't agree" with their sleeve Many people can't eat eggs. I am lucky, i still can enjoy my scrambled egg in the morning Others become lactose intolerant. If you eat something that you realize your sleeve might not enjoy, you might get sick. Just don't eat it again I have heard of some people turn into vampires if they ate something bad though good luck on your pending surgery kathy -
MorganK You are only one month PO and you are contributing to the sleeve board nicely this is a wonderful idea. great thought kathy

Ate Too Fast.......
ProudGrammy replied to carriecat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
carriecat You didn't hurt yourself, but i wouldn't recommend throwing up in the future. i admit that i did that once too - same situation. i ate my meal too fast. I know it was just "sitting" in my stomach making me miserable and i was feeling sick, yes i did what you did cuz i felt I had no choice. Never did that again eat slower and you'll be fine and chew a million of times so that bad feeling never happens to your stomach again best of luck in sleeveland Kathy -

Has Anyone Ever Regretted Having Surgery? Be Honest?
ProudGrammy replied to Karen2012's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
can't eat what I want Karen2012 I had the sleeve 6+ months ago. Best thing I've ever done for myself. No regret, no way Before WLS I couldn't walk any long distance, forget about stairs huff and puff all red - you know what i mean Shortly after WLS I no longer have diabetes or high blood pressure good luck kathy -
Hi Debbie So very happy for you Having 5.8 as your new A1C , how great is that? You. must be so psyched Yes, one of the big benefits of the sleeve is getting rid of diabetes There are many other ailments too that will be helped eventually. I still haveSleep Apnea, didn't help me. , at least diabetes and high blood pressure are gone one x- diabetic to another kathy

KS Fort Worth You/me, maybe everyone here are yo-yo dieters I willl lose weight too, only to regain, then lose etc., etc. We can lose the weight, its keeping it off - dealing with maintenance to keep the weight off is the very difficult part You learning more about nutrion is great. It helps with the sleeve too. We talk alot about Protein and carbs and all that other important information If learning all this important material about nutrition, if that knowledge will help you not gain the weight back, thats terrific. You can lose anad never gain again. That would not happen in my case though. Get more information about the sleeve look deeply into your heart, deciding if WLS is right for you. This is a tough decision. Don't take it lightly good luck kathy

Need Some Help/advice
ProudGrammy replied to Happy2Bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy2Bme hi there When anyone hits a stall it is very upsetting. all you can do is ride the wave, and it will eventually be gone. (the stall, not the wave) i hear so much about people stalling, at 4 months i said yea i have not had a stall. Two weeks later i had a 3 1/2 week stall I should never have jinxed myself stalls happen, but they eventulaly will be gone. We just have to be patient. good luck kathy -
