    Spouses And Surgery

dithdith26 Your husband is probably concerned about a possible change in your marriage with your soon to be weight loss. it might intimidate him. As for mel2463 said, her husband is "concerned" because there have been problems w/between other people, and the policeman who said "one of the officers who had a lapband said "there is a higher divorce rate when WLS is concerned" not sure where that statistic could have come from Probably after WLS some spouces of might show their insecurities, or the person who had the surgery now feels strong enough to be on their own, or look for themselves for a change.......I don't know - but things do change, - we can't be afraid of change though i had close to 100 lbs to lose. when i started my journey. DH never had a problem after my WLS he periodically refers to me as "skinny ass". He is pleased with my weight loss. Lots of thing have changed now for us for the better. the first time he noticed a big difference in my weight loss was in bed continue your plans for 8/7 - it will be the best decision you've ever made - don't let anyone talk you out of something you want to do hope your hubby will realize sooner than later, how good this is for you and him - point out how much healthier and happier you will feel - which should be contagious onto him good luck kathy

    Ghrelin Hormone

lessofmeismore Like SpeciaLK - I was one those lucky ones that after 7 months, i stilll don't have any hunger. Maybe head hunger very seldomly. Shhhhhh....don't tell anyone, hope i didn't jinx myself I've read on the board, sometimes people had to remind themselves to eat. That was probably at the very early stages. i don't have to remind myself to eat anymore, or less luck kathy
  4. Jennifer My PHP suggested the lapband. I told him i had heard of the sleeve. He knew nothing about it i went to another dr. office - nurse and i were chatting and yes my weight loss was commented on - i told her i had WLS. She immediately said, oh the lapband, or was it gastric bypass? I told her it was the sleeve - oh what is that? these are professional people, and the fact that they either never heard about the sleeve, or don't know much about it.... well ..... BTW - i never heard of the sleeve before one of fmy seminars,... but i'm not a nurse it was very unprofessional of the nurses at the ER to ask you questions about the sleeve, while you were in the ER for help, and you were in such pain , hope you are feeling somewhat better. problems with chest pain/abdominal pains. good luck at your dr. next week kathy

    Need A Nut?

StillLooking I had my surgery locally. I met with my NUT that works with my surgeon couple of weeks before WLS. Then I saw her again in a month. Now i see her every 2 months when i weigh in and see my surgeon. NUT (young girl who is extremely nice, and informative) told me to email me with any and all questions. Told me she responds by the end of each day. She does respond by the end of the day. i have emailed her many times, asking her this or that advice etc.. I've even told her about this board. i heard this or that on the board, wll ask her opinion. She is extremely helpful, i don't know what i would do without her. IMO it helps alot to have a NUT. if you decide you want a NUT- call your PHP and ask them to help you find a NUT that is covered by your insurance. good luck on your WLS kathy sometime you feel like a NUT, sometimes you don't (couldn't resist)

    Crushing Pills

cynthia there are certain pills that you are not supposed to crush/cut. it loses some of of is potency be careful - the" medicine police" are always out there checking on people that are breaking the rules I never did have a problem with swallowing my pills, but when i was in hospital they did crush into my applesause - wan't too bad Afer some time passes, many people don't need their diabetes meds with the help of the sleeve. losing weight (i'm one of those lucky ones) Maybe you won't need to take metforman, or other medication for certain problems (or a reduction ). i don't have to take my B/P medicine either good luck kathy

    Fluids

cynthia many many many people have trouble drinking. You must drink though because you don't want to get dehydrated. if you can't/don't drink enough you might end up in the hospital getting IV fluids We are always supposed to follow what the dr./nut says - if he says 4 oz an hour - i know what you mean about having hours in the day. Drink as much as possible. You are only 5 days PO - give yourself a little break - you do need to get as much Water as you can in for now. I never got 64 oz. in those first few days. you'll work up to that amount slowly - you will need to eventually get those 64 oz daily hope you are doing well with your recovery best of luck kathy

    Hello Head Hunger...

Tex this sounds very familiar to me. I used to love to go with DH out to sunday Breakfast. DH and i used to go out frequently to restaurants - for no good reason, just to go out. We don't do that any more. I know I can go out to eat, i've just decided not to go out for now. as everyone says, its amazing how much you money you save. I went to Red Lobster with DH the other day. I had 1/2 appetizer, took the rest home. it was delicious. I stop eating meals when i'm full, so i feel good then sunday want to go out and eat, yup that sounds all too familiar to me dealt with head hunger after i started WLS, but then very shortly it got better it is hard sometimes not to hear those voices of hunger sounds, but you have to try and ignore them, otherwise you'll (i'll) go nuts - short trip, hubby always says good luck you'll work it out kathy

New Member Just Starting My Journey

LawDiva312 hi there. I was all set to have the lapband. went to my informational conference - and the dr. spoke of they sleeve. that was the first time i had ever heard of the sleeve. - so after talking to the surgeon - i decided that going the route of the sleeve is the best for me. if the lapband was so good - why would they have a whole thread concerning Lapband Revision to VSG. if the lapband was so good why would so many people have them removed and change to the sleeve? i never had a lapband, but there are problems like erosion, band slipping - As far as the gastric bypass - that gives you absorption problems with medication. Sleeve has no problems with absorption. This is one big reason that people are now doing the sleeve. i don't know if the sleeve can experience dumping sydrome problems - my answer will be no.- think that is primarily with the gastric bypass - about the dumping best of luck welcome to the group kathy
  15. Aug2ndsleever I think that "most" people used to drink with their meal, mainly Water. I always drank with my meal, and it still seems weird not to drink w/food. its just a habit that most people developed, drinking w/their meals. No rhyme or reason - we used to drink with our meals - As sleevers, we no longer have that luxary to drink while you eat, or after for 45-60 minutes after you eat per your NUT My NUT told me after about 15 minutes of my last drink, i could start to eat - when i was done - i had to wait 45-60 minutes after i finished my meal, to wait to drink. I believe the reason for not drinking w/food, is you flush away the Protein that you have eaten if you drink too early protein is always eaten 1rst, very important to eat alot of protein, after you have eaten, you don't want it to leave your system. - so thats why you can't drink for a bit after eating. BTW - i do miss drinking my water while i eat good luck kathy

    299 Baby..

trudad 132 lbs down, did i read that right? of course i did that is so amazing - you must be feeling much healthier, and happier i'm sure you'll progress successfully to your next goal, and next and next enjoy your continued journey way to go kathy
  18. chills562 had surgery 12/15/11 - after a couple of months - officially no more diabetic meds. i also had high blood pressure, its gone now - no more meds. i'm 80 lbs down, and yes i do have some hanging skin, mainly behind my thighs , excess rear and i guess a little excess skin at my tummy. a little in my face too- but i would take hanging skin any day, (some people do have plastic surgery) as opposed to continue to be obese i wear capris in the spring & summer, no big deal covering myself that way, wear swimming suit only to Water aerboics - i'm doing excercise for myself, don't worry about people seeing me in this situation We're all different and you might have less excess skin, or more, whichever if its a choice of some hanging skin or being obese, i'll take some hanging skin anyday. words of wisdom? hmmmm i would just say, the decision of having the WLS is yours - don't let anyone talk you out of it. IMO this is the best type of of WLS there is. I havee lost weight over the years, up and down like a yoyo - i never had the strength to stay on a diet forever, which brought the lbs. back the sleeve gives you a new life. it is a tool that helps you lose the weight. You have to co-operate by following the proper procedures that your NUT (nutritionalist) gave you and of course your dr. The main thing is all of a sudden your meal portions will be very small, but then again your tummy will have 85% gone too - so you shouldn't be able to eat as much, and you won't be hungary hope you make the wise decision to have the sleeve, you'll feel so much heathier good luck kathy
  19. hey girlfriend way to go, getting a membership to the honored Century Club I don't think they let just anybody in. you must be pretty special keep up the great work kathy

    Baby Stomachs And The Sleeve

msvickee my mom lives on the opposite coast than me. i tried to explain how small my new tummy is 85% gone. I tried to compare my new stomach and how little it is. won't be able to eat much, i tried to compare her 82 yr. old stomach - she is extremely thin, and she can only eat a little bit per meal. stomach won't allow her to eat more. i think she got it finally - as far as not being able to eat at the beginning and slowing moving on, its like you first have to learn to crawl, then walk, then eventually you can run like you rule the world kathy
  21. Dooter i've heard before about shoe sizes changing after we've lost a bunch of weight. I don't like shoe shopping, so i'll wait till I hit my goal. its a cool though that being a 9w - this width might get smaller. kathy ps cool shoes

AKSleever, never minimize any accomplishments arriving to onederland is such a big deal congrats keep on the good work kahty
  23. Johnathon how nice it is having supportive friends. your friend so willing and able to help you after surgery, Louisiana sounds like a great place to live - hope that goes well for you waiting 12 more days is like waiting for a pot of Water to boil but the pot will boil, and you will get your WLS sooner than later. I was excited , anxious, nervous and all that stuff as WLS was approaching. Sounds like you are very excited to go on that great trip into sleeveland good for you 12 days will turn into 10, and 8 etc. before you know it you'll have your IV in all set to be sleeved congrats on getting your sleeve good luck kathy
  24. charmichelle sorry you are having promblems with you family and friends not approving your WLS. if you choose not to tell certain people about the WLS thats fine for you too (i didn't tell most people either) But - IMO i wouldn't lie about having the surgery either - saying i am going to have gall bladder sugery - the truth will eventually come out, or you just might feel guilty about saying something that is not true. people like your boyfriend might not appreciate the story you fabricated. this is just IMO good luck on your pending WLS kathy
  25. hi muasas After getting the sleeve many, many people are no longer diabetic (always will be considered diabetic) no more meds or reduction of, insulin or reduction too My surgeon told me that the shorter time period you have had diabetes, the better chance you have not to be diabetic anymore. you know, no meds and stuff for the past 20 yrs i have had to take my meds and as of late my insulin - NO MORE! glad you chose the sleeve good luck on losing the diabetes best on your pending WLS kathy
