Not Sure What To Do
ProudGrammy replied to jessika's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jessika you are only couple of weeks post WLS. good for you on trying to get in all your fluids. there are Newbies that are unable to drink much Water at the beginning you don't want to drink too much, causing you to feel sick/nautious. take it slow - you will get to the 64 ounces soon enough good luck kathy -
rootman, never heard of taping your eyelids shut? kathy

Praying The Sleeve Helps With Diabetes...
ProudGrammy replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
scaredoftheunknown i've had diabetes for the past 20 years. I was on meds and insulin. when i had the WLS, hospital took me off meds and insulin - told me to see PHP one week after surgery. PHP said to stay off meds till i have a new A1C. My new number 5.2 -WOW. no more med or insulin for me. you may be clear of the diabetes meds too - wonderful feeling. other health issues may diminish or go away completely i.e. my blood pressure meds. are now gone too good luck kathy -
First Time Eating Soft Food
ProudGrammy replied to victoriatxgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
victoriatxgirl you said a mouthful when you said all dr. are different/NUTS too. everybody has their own opinions and advise. Always follow what your dr. or NUT says remember that everyone loses weight at their own speed, amount loss. Never compare dr./NUT or yourself to others good luck in your continuing journey kathy -
Veteran Sleevers, No Hair Loss
ProudGrammy replied to KikiCC's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
KikiCC I saw Richard Simmons on a talk show a couple of years ago. his curly hair was still there, but in between the hair you saw a lot of big bald spots. At one time i think he lost a lot of weight too quickly - so that was his hair situation i think. but it never grew back. Maybe theres more to this? Post Op 7 months - no hair loss for me kathy -

Medical Review Went Amazing, Except Irritated @ The Hubby!
ProudGrammy replied to Mzluvee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also was very concerned with the malabsorption problems - to me the bypass surgery was out .initially i wanted the lapband. at the end of my initiali conference concerning WLS Dr. mentioned the sleeve which i had never heard of. All the problems with lapband, i realized that wasn't for me i asked dr. which he thought was better. he immediately said the sleeve. Didn't want to make a snap decision, went home and i also did research, and then went back to dr. saying i want the sleeve. great decision hospital took me off diabetes meds & insulin til i saw my PHP - PHP wanted me to stay off diabetes meds too for a couple of months - i was then cleared by PHP not taking any meds or insulin - i was cleared - my BP had totally gpme bacl to normal - so no longer on BP meds Don't let any dr. try and sway you in any direction. you have your own mind, and you should do whats best for.. Since we're on the sleeve board - i am biased and say that the sleeve is the best thing - it really is the best - biased or not good luck kathy -

Questions On Choosing A Surgeon.
ProudGrammy replied to alley-gator's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
alley-gator new broom sweeps clean, old broom knows corners - Chinese proverb I would go with surgeon #1 - very experienced, sleeve pioneer, low complications, high success rate -successful and well known , center of excellence but, hows this for a noncommital answer - go with either one, both are good - its your choice good luck on your decision kathy -
2 Days Post Op
ProudGrammy replied to ImprovedDreamerGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ImprovedDreamerGirl After surgery its very common to have the problem of lots of gas. It might take a little while to get rid of the problem, walk, walk walk, and then walk somemore this should resolve your gas problem you just had major surgery, take it slow and easy, walking is good for all Newbies - not to mention walking is good for all of us. take care good luck kathy -
sil222 hope you will be feeling stronger and not as fatigued. soon getting your Protein and calories in, you do need to improve on that. you could do a Protein shake here and there to help get your calorie count and protein up. i'm sure you are aware how imperative liquids/water are - by now you hopefully are working your way up to 64 oz. liquids if you are on solids you could eat chicken or fish, they have alot of protein and of course they have calories too. maybe keep track of your food,Water, and exercise on the MFP board. as far as the sagging skin goes... i have alot of "rear end action gong on back there so glad my rear is not as big as it was - but a lot of excess skin just hanging around is no good to anyone. don't wear shorts, or bathing suit, so no one sees me except hubby. you'll be fine - you are exercising that is great. some people that have reached goal say that after a couple of years you do firm up "a little" not sure about that - but i can always hope wonderful that you have lost over 50 lbs between pre-op and after. thats great - welcome to the board good luck kathy

I want to take a big fat marker and write on his forehead, "stupid insensitive dr. for sale" that dr. is just plain stupid, and nasty, rude etc etc. IMO he just said that remark off the top of his head without thinking what a nasty thing he said . or maybe he really was aware that this was a nasty comment - but figured he could get away with speaking like that to a "fat girl" I would have been so sensitive emotional inside - but i don't think i could say anything to the dr. at the time. i would have sat there totally dumbfounded. - and who knows, maybe the dr. figured you (I) wouldn't say anything back, so he got away with it again (how many other people do you think he might have said this to?! btw -on the way home, i would be thinking of all sorts of comebacks i wich i had said - too late not quick enough, would have been afraid to say them to him this hit me way too close to home kathy

Like someone was going to take my plate away and run That was an experience i won't forget too soon. no details take care sure you are feeling better by now good luck kathy

One Week Pre-Op Nerves
ProudGrammy replied to Izuri's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi there, welcome to our " small group" - we're all getting smaller and smaller as far as the the jitters, nerves, excitement, or looking for the door to leave - we always tell Newbies those feeling are totally normal. most of us feel that way pre WLS is very scary people do different things before surgery, to try and help themselves get through that time. i didn't talk or think about the WLS much before WLS. If i concentrated on it too much - i would have gone bullistic (msp) WLS was early in morning, started to get more "concerned" as DH and I got to hospital. thats just me All went well, 7 months later I'm still around to talk to you Being your first surgery, i can only imagine that you feel more nervous, anxious, and a little frightened I hope you have someone to "hold" your hand good luck see you on the other side you will love your new life w/the sleeve kathy -
Amany194 So happy for you. Its such a great feeling, being where you are, enjoying your journey. Knowing you will still open one more door than another..then another towards success. DOS 5/15/12 "still on shakes and puree food" little confused why your still on shakes and..purree foods?.. hmmmm, well i know all NUTS are different you should feel proud of your success congrats kathy

Made Goal But Now I Want To Lose 10 More Pounds.....
ProudGrammy replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeve of Steel IMO your doing so well, if you want to extend your goal to an additional 10lbs, if that is appropriate number for you - continue. Stalls come and go, but eventually they do GO i haven't reached my 90 lb goal , - i decided to go an additional 10 lbs. cuz i really think it would be better for me. I am not "over " doing it. i'm just so excited to be where i am, thats great, and so is life kathy -
Chewing 30 Times
ProudGrammy replied to crystal43zzz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
crystal43zzz my NUT never gave me an exact number like 30 times to chew, but it was crammed into my head pre WLS that I had to thoroughly chew after each bite a whole bunch of times, til the food is basically squished to death you will get used to stuff like this cuz its just one of the rules of WLS that you must follow or the chewing police will be after you good luck on pending WLS kathy -

Ever Feel Like....
ProudGrammy replied to Happy2Bme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Happy2Bme Some people have "thought" they might be the exception to the rule, in other words not lose any weight. But it doesn't happen, that they don't lose weight At this time you are eating around 700 calories a day - you are drinking more Water, sounds like everything you are doing is correct. maybe you are not losing right now - that will change. things will get better, sooner than later best wishes kathy you are not destined to be fat
