Rootman nice to see you, its been awhile congrats on your new bicycle - you sound so happy, and proud the 3rd paragraph you wrote - should be mandatory for anyone who is thinking about having the sleeve, people that are pre-op - those who are dealing with stalls, and those who have had problems before, during or after wls, and anyone else i didn't include actually, i think that covers all of us at one time or another Rootman, inspiration to me?- i don't know i, don't want to give you a swelled head congrats on your continued success best kathy

Hun all sleevers lose weights at different speeds, but 40 lbs down is wonderful in 3 months, 13 lbs a month - gotta love that i don't really know what to say about your hunger situation - it is good to drink alot before you eat, that helps fill you up I drink a lot of Water before i eat You most definitely are not a failure People do have many types of emotions they deal with at any time through this process, just as someone might have different emotions for whatever reason they might have. its understandable and totally acceptable get some tissue, wipe those pretty eyes - things will get better. Do you have family/friends someone you could talk to? wishing you the very best of luck - all us sleevers are here for you kathy

The Subject Of Food And Meals
ProudGrammy replied to luckylady131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
luckylady131 are you already eating, or are you just drinking. If you're just drinking - you will not necessarily feel full - but once you start eating - you will appreciate that full feeling before WLS i thought about food way too often now in our new lifestyle with the sleeve, I think about food/liquids alot, just in a different way. I now carefully plan what i'm going to eat for the day, i'm concentrating on chewing alot, eating slowly, and eating healthier, like i'm supposed to. i also put my utencil down between bites. i never did this stuff before, but i must now getting all my Water in for the day - remembering not to drink til an hour after meals, never have a problem with not drinking with meals - i would rather drink while i eat, but i know i'm not supposed to, so i don't Eating is now a new ballgame ,since the sleeve, i do think about food/drink alot - but i don't mind, cuz i know i'm eating healthier, living better and feeling much happier the fact i have to do this for the rest of my life, it will be hard at times - but the positives do outweight the negatives eat to live, not live to eat good luck kathy -
TLP When i saw the title of your post Is there Spice After the Sleeve - i immediately thought you were referring to sex i was going to assure you by saying yes there is spice after the sleeve Now i realize you are talking about food spices, i use paprica on my chicken. jacksmommy719 definitely right decision for moms who have kids, any age to have the sleeve if you need to lose weight - WLS is the best thing you can do for your health/children/family - you want to get healthy and lose that weight to improve your health so you can play with those 2 wonderful kids and watch them grow. you want to chase them around, just have normal fun. Be at the playground - and not sit on a bench and wave to them - you want to be active and help them, and help yourself i've always been heavy - 32 years ago when my daughter was 6, i couldn't run around and play with her., regret that so much That "6 yr old" has now given me 3 amazing grand-kids aged 12, 9, 4 - i can now play/run etc. with them, and when i'm w/the 4 yr old - who can be a delightful handful- i can run around with him and catch him i could never have done that pre-sleeve and 87 lbs ago hope you get sleeve date soon - so you can start your wonderful journey to a healthier/happier life for you and yours with the help of your soon to be best friend - the sleeve can't change the past - but the present and future will continue to be the healthiest, happiest time of your life good luck kathy

Christi hi and welcome to the sleeve board. having the sleeve was the best thing i ever did for myself. Health wise since WLS, I no longer take diabetic pills or insulin, don't need high blood pressure meds either. Other health issues have been dealth with too. Christi you said "depriving myself of food is like taking away my best friend" - not taking away your food could cause something more serious - which would you rather, have a big nice meal - or a big nice life. I always ate alot before WLS, weight went up and down like a yo yo - i could lose the weight, but never kept it off. if that sounds like you - i would go with the sleeve so you can be helped with this tool to save your life, not meaning to be melodramatic, but its true i understand having doubts, 2nd thoughts - this is for you to improve your health, and happiness. I have faith in you that you can do great after WLS - you need to believe in yourself Don't think about not being successful with following the "food, drink rules" don't be pesimistic before the game has started. i hope for your sake, after more deep thoughts, if the WLS is for you - take the plunge. you might struggle a bit after surgery - but its for your own good, and you will be rewarded in the end good luck with your decision kathy

Went out to dinner - 3rd time in 8 months don't llike to go out anymore cuz i question myself with portions. I had little bit of steak too, rest went home. steak was way to heavy for me. I do stop when full, but i just rather not go out for meals - what a switch from before save so much money, i could probably buy my own restaurent kathy

JDHenin I always "ran away" when family pictures, or any pictures were being taken. Thats why i don't have pictures of me standing up, always hiding so have some bad "mug shots" A couple of years ago, big family event (mom's 80th b'day) everyone was there - didn't want any pictures taken Big family event in January, i might be at goal or close(i know wt. loss really slows down at end) can't wait to have a nice picture of me and DH - haven't had one for 20 years.. Rest of family too - especially with the most beautiful kids in the world (present company excluded of course) the 3 kids, you guessed it, are my grand-children things have been going better and better, healthier, happier. just thought i'd share my joys with you all kathy

GregMy NUT told me to have 3 meals a day - no Snacks she explained that for me, if i have 2 snacks, i might eat more often during the day, turning into a grazer. it is hard not to have snacks - but i stick to it - ok, on a rare occasion i might sneak something in, nothing bad, cuz i don't have anything like that at home. i'm lucky i don't have kids at home. One kid, my DH. Tom is obese (hate that word)I don't buy chips, Cookies et al so he can't have at home, mainly so i can't have at home. If i were to sneak/graze i couldn't reach in pantry and attack cookies/chips & dip et. al. -you know the drill For me, it is just easier to eat those 3 meals a day, no snacks, if i'm allowed "one" - i'll overdue with all hope that helps kathy

Bobyour dr. is correct. you've only been diabetic for one and a 1/2 year - thats a big plus, your diabetes will probably resolve very quickly, as i see it did my surgeon explained to me that the longer you've had diabetes, the worse your chances of getting rid of this "problem" will be resolved. I've had diabetes w/meds and recently insulin for 20 yrs. Since WLS i'm off meds and insulin I consider myself very lucky With the sleeve, not everyone will get off there meds, but a good percentage will - glad to hear that you did Gastric Bypass Sugery does get rid of diabetes almost immediately - many many problems with gastric bypass as you know the sleeve is the way to go - it helps with many other medical problems too - i.e. i no longer take blood pressure meds either take care

Excess Skin? How Bad!?!?!
ProudGrammy replied to jessfharris's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
JessHmmmm, so would I from your profile i see your a "youngun" of 25. when your that age, through mid 30's-40's your body reacts better to tightining up, firming up during this WL process exercising throughout this whole process is beneficial, and continue to exercise after the fact is important, of course for ever and a day, but i'm not that religious about it Do cardio, and weights. alternate days between the two. i didn't exercise enough, but i'm working on it now - better late than never I do have hanging skin under my arms, tummy, hmmm - i think i'll stop there After you've lost your weight, your skin does tighten, firm up a bit during the next couple of years I've heard that from veterans on the board. But this isn't a guarentee of course for everyone I think you have to wait a bit before a plastic surgeon will perform anything - thats what i have heard, i might be mistaken most people end up having some excess skin hanging skin is better than a lot of extra weight "hanging" around good luck with WLS on 8/15 speedy recovery kathy -

Will My Diabetes Be Reversed?
ProudGrammy replied to Serendipity's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Serenipityhospital took me off my diabetes meds, insulin. they told me to continue no meds etc til i saw my PCP, the following week. PCP said stay off the meds. Saw him the next month, A1C was 5.3 - it had been as high as 7.4 - doc said "no more meds" Doing the happy dance good luck kathy -
Kiddo sounds like you are doing just fine. do you have a NUT - off Clear liquids, where are you with your meal plan? doctors all give different time periods to eat/drink different stages of food. being 30 lbs down, post op? thats great don't worry - all sounds good - keep up following the "rules", weight will go down slowly but surely good luck kathy
