Skin! Does It Shrink?
ProudGrammy replied to sleevemeup's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sleevemeup OMG - girl have you seen my rear end lately rump is totally gone - all that skin went down south, no no i don't mean it went to florida you silly people the skin is now hanging around my back of my legs first i figured since DH would be the only one to see, oh well, but i'm realizing now that the extra skin is uncomfortable. i just plain ol' don't like it or want it my tummy also could use some help with the doc i think i will eventually have that taken care of with plastics never thought i would say the above (plastics) - but if i can save enough money to swing the price - i deserve it - I went through all this, now want to feel totally better about myself my arms are not the greatest, but i can deal with that, i never wore sleeveless shirts, so i'll continue to be fine w/short sleeves i always look for the good in the bad all you ladies that are upset with your girls going south - i never will have that problem thanx to chemo/dble mascetomy (never learned how to spell that word) i don't mind briefly talking about that problem/dealing with it - just like we need to talk about/deal with our heaviness/obesity - right? good luck with your upcoming WLS you'll love your sleeve -

Cake Is My Weakness, Yes....but I Threw It Out
ProudGrammy replied to NtvTxn's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey Tex i am not a cake lover , i love all chocolate, but not chocolate cake, go figure?- but when you came up with the carrot cake/cream cheese icing/ my mouth started to drool alitte I never/never buy junk food, chips, Cookies, those big chocolate chip ones no kids home, or the grandkids, moved out of state DH is overweight, and i don't/won't buy them for him  if all that stuff were in my pantry, hmmmm, it would be torture - try not to eat of course, but eventually i might have a "moment" i might be sitting watching tv, minding my own business - poof - a couple of hundred candy bars would attack me , then what would i do When i go to a gathering, i'm fine - don't overeat, never have thrown my neighbors potatoe salad out at their barbecue If there were some yummies around just sitting there, begging to be eaten, you know like they are yelling to me, "hey chic, come on over here, we won't hurt you, just a little bite, yeah right if goodies are home, don't like the temptation - so yeah i would throw it out - maybe when i'm a "self-Controlled adult" i won't feel the need to throw it out, hmmmm, maybe in my dreams Tex, to finally answer your question, no it hasn't gotten easier for me, won't eat it, but don't want it around/would throw any old addictions out the window congrats on goal -
msdivine8 thats one of the reasons i chose not to tell many people. I think i was a little paranoid though - "eww, everyone is watching me", much of that was my imagination 30 lbs down in 3 months - hold head up high sounds like you are eating small amounts - no grazing, right??? drinking plenty of Water, not drinking with meals, no drinking again after meals for about an hour - or whatever NUT says give your NUT a call asking for advise and help exercising, walking, small amounts your eating - sounds like things are going well, maybe you need to tweak your food a bit, go get that help good luck

Pep Talk! Was It Worth It?
ProudGrammy replied to jennlhp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
iggychic what awful ordeal you have been going through - my heart and good wishes go out to you i do hope these problems will be solved sooner than later - bringing you to a good point where you will start your life feeling better Like IsB said, "its hard to hear these stories," us sleevers that had no complications, or very little problems feel bad for people who have had many issues pre-sleevers need to hear these stories though - not to scare them away, NOT to scare anybody. They should not have blinders on going into WLS - but be totally aware of "might" happen. IMO most sleevers have good experiences get better and out of that damn hospital - hope you start healing at home real soon Listen to your dr./surgeon he will give you good advise on what to do since your complications, gets lots of rest, you deserve it i do want to say, that after all these problems have cleared - i hope you did not have your sleeve in vane - and will one day enjoy your sleeve, and reap the benefits get healthy soon so you can hug your big little boy - and your big DH my thoughts are with you good luck -
Pep Talk! Was It Worth It?
ProudGrammy replied to jennlhp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jennhlp there is a risk to any/all surgeries, that being said WLS was the best thing i ever did for myself no more meds for diabetes, high blood pressure - no more CPAP i would say it was worth it - for the rest of my long, healthy, happy life good luck -
I Admit It...i Have Cheated A Bit
ProudGrammy replied to luckybee13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kindof like being "a little pregnant" congrats on loosing those 19 lbs with your pre-op WLS you ate a few things that you "maybe" should not have.,get over it DH is right, let it go, don't beat yourself up over it, move forward. Sounds like he's a supportive keeper You are before WLS - you lost a lot of weight - feel proud, you have done wonderful you ate a crumb - you didn't eat the whole loaf since you feel guilty about that little extra eating, i think that will help you in the long run, you'll know to act differently PO People do at times, on a rare occasion cheat throughout WLS - we're only human that being said - you must follow the rules that go with the sleeve - no cheating with the sleeve - follow whatever your NUT./dr tell you, the drinking, chewing- et al i'm sure you will do great with your future with the help of the sleeve WLS is for the rest of your life - a total committment - the rewards are wonderful Health, happiness, and of course weight loss too good luck on friday speedy recovery -
Marriage & Vsg...
ProudGrammy replied to jessfharris's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jessgharris never be ashamed to come here asking for help, venting - you have friends to help you, our fellow sleever you have quite a dilema, you have a bunch of good advice from the above and future comments, you need to pull/weed through good advice from here and there - put it to your heart and listen to it. you must come to a decision. - just as in thinking about WLS, you need to weigh all your options, think alot - not for one or two days, take your time with your thoughts, decision, cuz this is another life time committment just like WLS - glad he did help you a couple of weeks ago after WLS - how are you feeling now - hope you are resting, taking it easy, drinking all that good stuff. you need to take care of yourself through this hard time- and what a time to have this problem after WLS IMO - you should not be thinking of having kids now. If he wants kids, maybe you too? and either of you think this "might help your relationship" - i don't think this is true. In the near future if you do have kids, your personal relationship might continue to spiral downhill, and you would only be hurting the kids. and of course yourself you are 25 years young - you have your future in front of you, weight loss, health and happiness and much more all our thoughts and good wishes go your way i'm handing you a box of kleenex - dry those pretty eyes good luck luv -
Will I Ever Be Able To Chug Water Again?
ProudGrammy replied to TiredOfChubRub's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
TiredOfChubRub from my hospital days, never had any trouble keeping my water down my NUT told me at about 6 weeks, i could "slowly" chug my water, conflict in terms? my problem was getting in my 64 oz , now i get in 80 oz or more some time back i started drinking from a 20 oz btle - now i drink 2 btls am - and 2 pm - for me it works good luck newbie -
keldolbeth I love shrimp and salmon in our grocery store - they have big frozen bags of each. the shrimp - i just pull 3 from the bag and thaw in Water - others stay in bag frozen, ready for next time The salmon is wrapped in individual pieces 5 oz. - eat less than 1/2 - rest goes in tupperware - good for 2 more days. eat veggies w/the fish yum yum the fish has alot of good Protein too i'm not much of a cook either - someone posted this recipe for mini-meatloafs on our site- bought a pan with 4 individual small "loafs", took liberty with the recipe - didn't bother w/all those spices mainly mixed tomatoe sauce, egg, bread crumbs, fresh chopped up mushrooms, green pepper and of course 95% fat free hamburger - i loved it - even hubby enjoyed some it was delicious - one is in fridge now, other 2 in freezer. just food for thought Sure you are probably kidding about the grocery store chain, but it would work - i know i'd shop there by the way, next time you have some good leftovers - give me a call - area code 315........ good luck
-
change4life i used to always luv those nasty "Butterfingers & Babe Ruth Bars" if I "had" to take a bite, i know i wouldn't take more, butttt......all of a sudden that yum/yum taste of chocolate would come back to me - and then i would remember what it tasted like....no, don't want to go there rather be foot lose, care free, sugar free and candy free
-
one of my first visit to my NUT - amongst other things - she said i shouldn't chew gum i was like, "huh, why not", she said i could chew gum without any problem - just make sure not to accidently swallow, that's the main issue gum was never that important to me, so i just avoid a possible problem by not chewing gum
-
CoolBreeze hi there, go with whatever your NUT tells you about this and everything - with food, he/she has the final word good luck

popcorn is my weakness, but yes its a slider i was watching tv the other night - ate popcorn for the first time in 8 months. - said to hubby something like "wow this tastes so good, i don't even feel full yet" then bamm it hit me - i just realized this was what a slider tastes like - never experienced before no more pop pop popin popcorn for me

when IrishEyes are smilin'........... At about 8 weeks i made my first salad - w/the spinich/green leaves - cut an egg up into quarters, some shredded cheese - yum yum, now I put a bunch of weighed out teeny pieces of chicken in the salad for Protein, a couple of walnuts too - i use the no calorie vigignorette dressing (OMG, really spelled that wrong!) i had a Wendy's salad a couple of times - and my salad is basically an imitation of a good thing The lettuce makes me full pretty soon, and with all the other stuff, i usually eat 1/2 what i make, the other 1/2 as dinner - can never judge properly to make the correct size. guess thats why i measure my quantities all the time (well..there can be exceptions) cuz i'm not good at guesstimating, if i don't measure - it doesn't really kill me, cuz i "usually" know when to stop When they took the 85% of my stomach out, they put a 1/3 measuring cup in my new sleeve

Banded X 5 Years = Tortured X 5 Years
ProudGrammy replied to bindi's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Alenr hi there - sorry you went through a band experience with the lap band - i've heard some people being successful for a brief time - then having many many other problems like you, and then need the band removed to have it replaced by the sleeve - best thing in the world (i must say i was never banded, but...i've heard so much about it, none really good) there is a whole thread on the board concerning people who have switched from lapband to sleeve. i always say, why in the world would there be a section like that - if the band was good? everybody there, wanted the band out, so they could get the wonderful sleeve to help/assist in loosing their excess weight. they all went through another surgery/procedure to have the sleeve, but it is so worth it to most of us sleevers have to throw in that some people have had problems with the sleeve PO WLS - and they regret the WLS - but there are problems with all surgery - there are never guarentees. the only guarentee in life is - DEATH and TAXES i understand about being scared, especially since you had the other procedure before, that eventually failed you like i said most people (ok, not everyone) but MOST,MOST and MOST etc etc. love their sleeve the sleeve has become my new best friend, that has been helping me as a "tool"/assisting me to loose weight. surgery cuts out 85% of your stomach - wow - terrific - BUT the sleeve can't do this weight loss on its own, no way. you have to be right there following the rules, such as drinking alot of fluids all the time - never drink fluids with meals, can't drink anything for about an hour after you eat i say sometimes, "the sleeve is the best thing next to sliced bread" i've just tipped the iceburg with a couple of comments hopefully swaying you to the other side of the mountain, and getting sleeved - take care of the sleeve/and it will take care of you -- this is a life time committment..so do more research - but hopefully you'll come to the right/wise decision that the sleeve is the way to go for health and happiness, and a plain simple way to a wonderful life BTW i no longer have to take my meds for diabetes or high blood pressure, or use my CPAP - way to go - this can happen to you also, with alot of other benefits too ask as many questions as you like about the sleeve to show you that the sleeve is the best WLS, others will confirm and explain more ps - are you getting the feeling that i'm a true/firm believer in the sleeve? you betch your bottom dollar!!! hope to see you soon good luck -
azzyjay i think its safe to say we can all relate to your statement. for one reason or another, we all hit rock bottom/final straw, which then has brought us here. (another thread about this) how embarrassing when those nasty flight attendents showed concern for the other passenger, inquiring if he was comfortable to...................... IMO, anyone representing a company/office etc. - like those flight attendents show be reported. We are all working/achieving our weight loss. are they working/achieving getting over their rudeness? hoping these 3 months do go by quickly, getting approved my insurance and getting a sleeve date. then you can officially start the beginning of your long journey through weighloss and success and a healthier happier you good luck with your sleeve

hm734 i know exactly what you mean about trusting yourself with certain foods in the past 8 months i have not had one sweet, sugar, candy etc. not even a bite. unfortuanately many candy stores have now had to lay off people or have totally gone out of business

Probably A Random/weird Question...
ProudGrammy replied to Huntingnurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
actingnurse i would like to reply to this - but i can't remember the question come on you guys, i could not resist ok, ok - i really haven't noticed any memory loss, i think -
kimmyk sorry your family isn't supportive now. my siblings didn't approve of my surgery pre-op. either, after awhile - they came around - hopefully that will happen to you too you want the sleeve, go for it - don't let family or friends discourage you and try to talk you out of it. its always great to find a support group and talk to people, maybe their still on the fence too - there will be newbie sleevers there asking similar questions as you. veteran sleevers also who will give you plenty of help and advice, and explain to all how wonderful the sleeve is and how it will change/save your life your doctor/surgeon can possibly help you find such a group - or steer you in the right direction its your mind and body - your weight - and your decision - you'll be so glad after you have WLS that you did go with the sleeve want to tell you and all other "youngons" how wonderful it is that you will be sleeved so early in your life the main regret so many of us have/say is "i wish i had my sleeve done earlier hope you make the wise decision and go with the sleeve good luck ************************************************************************************************************************** one more thing (i know i know i talk a lot ) when i was 21 i was pregnant with my only child - gained lots of weight i always said, i just had a baby and can't get this weight off- after 38 years, can't get away with saying that anymore after you get sleeved, you won't need to use that excuse
