Lets Get Real! I've Been Reading A "regrets" Thread
ProudGrammy replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dana you made a good decision to have WLS, I hope you don't make a "bad" (IMO) decision and change your mind now its good for any of us to vent. when someone comes here to talk about their problems/complications, they are upset/sad/mad, pick your poison - and your sleeve sisters/brothers are here to listen and help these posts might stick out in your mind. that being said....in those "regrets" post, i have seen people that say even though they had this or that complication - they do not regret the sleeve. i'm sorry about your health problems - i don't know for sure, but the sleeve might alleviate some issues you have with lupus and ms a few of the common health problems that improve/or disappear are diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and high cholesterol - in my case all my meds/insulin and sleep apnea machine went away eating "normal" - you love steak - good!!! - meats have a lot of Protein you will be able to eat steak, moderation, chewing slowly - again once your eating "regular solids" - the answer to when will you be eating steak, you have to wait and see what your NUT says i understand it can be alittle upsetting/scary reading stories from other sleevers that have had problems with their WLS - but these are facts that NEWBIES should be aware of - things are not always peaches and cream no one should go into any surgery with blinders on, or your head in the sand, but these bad incidents are in the minority there are "possible" problems with any surgery this surgery is so beneficial - you did the research - you know why you want the WLS-i know you still have a couple of months before surgery, please don't sit around worrying - think about all the positive that go along with the sleeve good luck to you - see you later on the board -

ProudGrammy replied to kczar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
kczar ewwww dear - moving heavy boxes this early in the game, probably not the best idea understand you hurt - probably ok/better now, right? if not, better keep your doc posted glad you are doing well otherwise - 4 weeks post op, kiddo you have a lot to look forward too good luck -
Amandazee13 sorry you are having a rough time now. its too bad they coudn't do the gallbladder surgery same time as WLS - maybe they weren't aware of that problem yet? (gallblader) its always a good idea to talk to your regular surgeon/or even your NUT since you are four weeks PO and not getting much/any food in you might get some suggestions/help from the professional take care hope you feel better sooner than later

xavtay2 there is no such thing as a small NSV You called this post "Small NSV" - are you kidding me??? OMG - if loosing your blood pressure meds is a "small" NSV - what the heck is a "large" NSV???? congrats - this is huge the sleeve "helped" get rid of the high blood pressure - BUT it couldn't have been done without you keep up the great work

Size doesn't matter it really is true in this case i am visiting my mom next month, she hasn't seen me since WLS - she knows my weight loss - she'll see me, be happy, my mom sees me she'll ask my size, its medium, she'll be very happy - but if i told her it was a large, she wouldn't be that happy - go figure its the psychological thing about a number - whether it be clothes or the scale Linds324 - you will see the effects of your hard work - others see it - but your reflection in the mirror - looks the same to you - you see it every day-you'll eventually notice the difference continued good luck - you are doing great my friend

last week was "testing the water" concerning plastic surgery showed plastic surgeon the back of my legs -lllllots of hanging skin - he explained that this particular surgery is the hardest, i'd be on the table for a long time - large scar, and very long recovery showed my tummy - realllly don't have much excess just wanted to discuss surgery next, hanging skin under my arms area, finally, discussed my turkey neck i must sound like i'm such a mess - i'm really not i never thought i would have any of these problems losing 90-100 lbs - oooops wrong!!!! never thought i would do plastics, back of legs i really did want done - it just "feels" awkward back there DH is only one that sees me like that, so i decided against any surgery dr. advised strongly on NOT getting any plastics done - ex just telling you there are some ethical dr. - surprise, surprise i know i could go around the block and find another surgeon who would do the surgery i think i'll listen to this dr. - he doesn't mind not taking my money - and i sure don't mind keeping money in wallet

Plastics Dr. Said No
ProudGrammy replied to ProudGrammy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
happpy1957 due to the elasticize in my face (that sounds awful) doc said in his opinion the lift wasn't adviseable - as far as the tummy, arms - he said he didn't think the excess skin warranted plastics the procedure of the skin in back of my legs, was too big of an ordeal for me, very painful, hard recovery . - in his opinion the surgery wasn't necessary basically after we talked for quite a while - he advised against all the plastics - he said it was his ethical duty to express his opinion hmmm, ethical, candid dr. - go figure? -
Plastics Dr. Said No
ProudGrammy replied to ProudGrammy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
AuroraB i never wear shorts - only capris - bought a new one piece bathing suit that looks nice - i only wear suitto Water aerboics, and i'm ok with that - tights not needed - but thanx for the suggestion hubby is the only who sees my skin etc., he doesn't think anything needs to be done, or he's just being a sweetie i just feel uncomfortable for me with that excess skin behing my legs- but it is way too expensive to have this taken care of - plus all the pain and recovery from the plastics - doesn't sound like much fun -
Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes You Don't
ProudGrammy posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
initially i thought everyone had a NUT - now i'm not sure that is true if you had WLS in Mexico, do you get LOTS of paperwork, information on what to do post-surgery - does a "patient" go to his own PCP to help with directions once you are home? there are many people on the board that had the sleeve in other countries - how are you helped - where do you go post WLS its great for sleevers to give info, help here with stages of food and drink, thats what we do - but a dr./NUT would respond in different ways don't misunderstand - we all have our questions, i know i always will, thats why we come here for help just curious about NUT and surgeon - vs no REAL help except the forum of course - we are "real" help hope i said the above ok -

ProudGrammy replied to ProudGrammy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
good for you - sounds like a planhere is my story dr commented i have a bunch of "elasticity" (msp) and we both kindof said, in otherwords the "lift" wouldn't last that long, and i would "droop" (my word not his) again after a short period of time, i know it doesn't last forever anyways who knows, i might talk to him again - he didn't charge me for consult - this lift would get rid of a "couple of wrinkles" too oh, i don't know...............so happy to have lost all this weight, i might just be too vain - can't decide - no big rush - after all i am gorgeous can i ask why you changed your name, i do love Ms skinniness though i won't use it here, cuz i'm trying to protect the innocent - you can tell me - it will be our secret ps - sorry i talked so much in your post -
hi there - IMO Dr. Kim's office didn't handle your situation well, he shouldn't have ignored your calls, emails - leaving you in limbo if you are a smoker and dr wanted you to be tested for nicotine, thats ok for him to have done - i have heard this process is done - but this should have been brought to your attention earlier i believe other doctors might also test you for nicotine - some might say you have to be smoke free for X amount of days - maybe some won't even do the WLS til you've quit You need to follow whatever doctor tells you good luck with insurance and pending WLS

Cas714 Never had PreOp diet- some doctors don't require it one reason you are put on a pre-op diet is to help shrink the liver, this helps the surgeon/you during the WLS some dr.'s want you to loose 5% or 10% of your weight pre WLS this pre-op stage, getting ready to change your eating habits, drinking, eating less, etc etc. - these are habits that will become your new way of life - in other words, you are easing into the new Sleeve world that being said................you didn't follow the pre-op - but thats over with, whats done is done - the present is all you need to worry about today, tomorrow and the future---for the rest of your life - you must be diligent with your new way of life in respect to your food habits, how you deal with food follow the rules of the sleeve - otherwise you get 1,000 whips with a wet noodle!! resqme4 - girlfriend the above goes for you too both ladies have a wonderful nap tomorrow through WLS - and a great recovery shortly you'll be on that long, forever journey through Sleeveland good luck

Why I Am So Dang Thirsty For Water
ProudGrammy replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
newgrandmother its great that you want to and can drink a lot of water with no immediate problems - but per your post - don't take big sips cuz your tummy then hurts talk to your NUT/Dr. - see when they officially say its ok to drink quicker/gulp whatever - don't hurry though - no rush - Dr/NUT will probably tell you to slow down, take it easy - just listen to them good luck -
How And When To Tell Someone Your Having Surgery..
ProudGrammy replied to Queen In Me's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
told my family, mom, 4 sibling and more - they were supportive,. in my moms case especially, she has always wanted to see me get rid of this weight. don't know that many other people, a couple of people on my block - and they reacted nicely to the fact that i had WLS. i also told people that worked at my various dr.s offices - everyone was supportive too until........................ yesterday i told 3 different people - there reaction was not as good, it surprised me. i started to explain myself to them, saying stuff like "this is not the easy way out" - and they are nodding - i'm thinking to myself then and now - why am i explaining myself to them i decided not to tell anyone else - unless the situation seems right as far as people/family telling you that you can do this on your own - diet/exercise etc. - listen to what they have to say, and then firmly put in your .02 that you are going through this procedure - maybe say you have tried to lose this weight before, it just keeps creeping back - or whatever the correct answer is just stick to your guns - if you don't want to talk much about it - thats fine too - stand firm if they give you any trouble - on the other hand - they might surprise you and be somewhat supportive good luck -
NEWBIE - welcome not sure about the ballooning? i believe we will be taking Vitamins for the rest of our days there shouldn't be any problems with staples - shouldn't interfere sex/pregnancies - sex? you shouldn't do any aerobics for a bit, otherwise sex is what you make of it getting pregnant - i think dr.s say different things, as in how long you should wait to have a baby - i don't think there would be any ill effects after the birth of a baby "difficult/mentally taxing to not abe able to eat what you like?" the answer to that question will change from sleever to sleever we're all different, with different reactions to situations i was in unfamilar territory after being sleeved mentally i had to get used to certain things that go along w/the sleeve, eating (or lack of) drinking, - not being able to drink w/meals - and having to wait about an hour after you eat before you can drink - and of course much smaller portions per meal I can deal with not eating certain foods i used to love - sweets/candy were/are my weakness i can/allowed to have a piece of candy on an occasion, perfectly ok i just don't want to be "reminded" of the yummy taste behind the devil - so i choose not to have any candy, i would just be torturing myself with that little bit i have been candy/donuts/.cookies, etc. free for 9 months!!!! OMG hope i helped you a little good luck

101 Lbs Down And A Lecture From My Doc?
ProudGrammy replied to Debvzw's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Deb IMO your dr was very rude to you telling a patient certain things/how to eat differently, yes he is the dr and you do need to listen to him - but he doesn't have to give you a lecture whatever he tells you, today tomorrow or ever, he doesn't need to be rude/mean to you - he could and should be a little more caring/and have a better repoir with you/his patient in other words he should improve his bedside manner losing over 100 lbs is so terrific - he should have commented on your excellent weight loss - then nicely he could have advised you on what you feel you should be doing differently IMO - for what is worth, you have been very successful but you need/must listen to your dr.- even if he is a SOB good luck -
welcome to the group Sami2211 sounds like you are having surgery in 2 days, is that correct? if this is the case - your feelings are normal and understandable - everyone gets nervous before surgery - take a bunch of deep breathes don't know if you've ever had surgery before - people are usually most concerned about the anesthesia - its easy to say things will be fine - but i truly believe they will be sounds like you are pre-op, so try not to be nervous, easier said than done - and when you come home - drink all that Water - you don't want to get dehydrated, rest - but walk too i hope you have a nutritionist who can help you with what to eat, especially this early in the game look ahead at the wonderful journey you are starting with the sleeve - your health and happiness will improve glad you found this board take care, write back with more details and more questions - someone is usually here with information to help you good luck
