Chewing Gum / Breath Freshners
ProudGrammy replied to Donny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi Donny My NUT told me never to chew gum - she said if i accidentally swallowed it, I might have "issues" i asked her again later, and she stood by her "no gum" response btw - you are doing great - heard your earlier belt story, good for you -
Use Your First Six Months Wisely
ProudGrammy replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jane i loved your post - honeymoon period, it does stop/slow down at certain point, whether 6 months or a year. it eventually does stop. "process doesn't end for me when i get to goal" - that's the part that people should understand, this isn't something that once you reach a certain weight, or goal - you must still continue to work to sustain your new great weight trying hard to make this new lifestyle/health/weight last forever - "honeymoon" has ended ...but. not your life after 21 years - my "honeymoon" might have stalled/slow downed a bit but i will continue to enjoy my "honeymoon" life with my DH, still working to "maintain" but live with my continued happiness for ever -
Use Your First Six Months Wisely
ProudGrammy replied to june13sleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi chad what a dilema you have - dr. & NUT not always agreeing with the other. If you have to choose - i would listen to the NUT - she is the nutrition expert. Protein not necessary for first - never heard that, strange. "stick to what you believe" thats gotta be hard/not sure if i agree, but i understand - i would talk and listen more to NUT - you have your great thoughts, a lot conceived from this forum - IMO NUT is the way to go over surgeon quick analogy - i had PT for my knee after replacement - therapist told me to do one thing, dr said something else. i decided i wouldn't have my PT do my knee surgery, and i would NOT have surgeon do my physical therapy, figure it out good luck - you're doing great -
Having A Hard Time After Surgery
ProudGrammy replied to katie.brooks's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Katie AKA NEWBIE welcome to sleeveland - you are starting on a wonderful lifetime journey to health and happiness am i correct that you have no problem keeping water down, not vomitting??? then you must drink as much as you can, then push some more fluids drinking is very important!!!! if you don't drink enough you might become dehydrated - causing you to go to hospital to be rehydrated via IV's. i had to go to the hospital for that, 2 months post op - will never forget the day, 2/14/12 - VALENTINE'S DAY!!! these early days after WLS, water/liquids are the most important, IF you can get protein in, you are ahead of the game - but if you are unsuccessful with getting in alot of protein, for now thats ok - you will be concentrating on protein soon enough, along with the liquid - you've signed up for alot with the sleeve good luck -
Any Regrets? I Do ..
ProudGrammy replied to DawnyBoca's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Dawn i "doubt" dr took too much of your stomach out - the amount i always hear is 85% is to be removed, and he probably followed that some people on the forum say they don't think dr has taken enough of their stomach out, don't feel restriction of food , so people are scared not enough of stomach was taken out - i don't "think" this happens, but you never know - and some people don't feel enough restriction do to the fact not enough % of stomach was removed NEWBIES don't feel restriction those first weeks while on liquids only - once you eat more normally you will feel the restriction "most" people have to experiment with different protein brands/flavors before they find a shake they really like - for me, i drank the shake for the protein, but never enjoyed it take everything slow, one day at a time - sorry you are still hurting, that should improve i am sorry you were effected by Sandy - interested in where exactly you live i live in Syracuse (upstate new york) we had high wins, but no damage take care - hope your life will get back to normal soon after Sandy Again, i'm so sorry you and thousands of people went through the hurricane. what a disaster should make people realize how lucky they are that weren't effected by the storrm bye -

Any Regrets? I Do ..
ProudGrammy replied to DawnyBoca's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
DawnyBoca 3 weeks out - drinking only clear liquids - your rules from your NUT - you need to follow, ok? stomach is healing from major surgery - don't jump ahead and try to eat solids til your told its ok you will gradually eat more forms, finally get to solids, so you'll feel better - you'll be able to eat anything - in very small portions having some stomach pains, MASSIVE pains, unbearable pains? contact your dr. tomorrow if the pain isn't THAT bad, hold on, the pain should decrease one day at a time bathroom issues - yeach, those are also common problems post surgery - that knowledge doesn't help your situation mourning loss of your best friend, desire for food, totally understandable dealing with problems for awhile, IMO, in the long run, are worth the results you get from the sleeve I love my sleeve - sounding trite, but i also wish i had done WLS years ago journey with your sleeve is rewarding - your health, quality of life will improve You've lost 18 lbs post op - WooHoo good luck -
jane you've done terrific with your weight loss so great receiving compliments from family et al - since you might not be used to hearing nice words, might feel a little strange get used to those wonderful comment - who deserves it more???? dressing nicer, taking care of yourself more- what a difference - you can't help but look, feel marvelous keep that head held high, walk with that new confidence -strutt you stuff!!!! congrats

Sleeve Vs Bypass
ProudGrammy replied to READY TO LOSE IT's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
READYTOLOSEIT you are not gonna find many objective opinions on the sleeve board very happy with my sleeve - best decision every made i have heard that people loose faster with the gastric bypass - not sure if thats true for all, but..there are more physical problems, intestines, malabsorption problems et al with the bypass lisa2job - never heard that you will loose 10% MORE with the bypass??? READYTOLOSEIT - don't second guess yourself - go with your instict you look like a smart person - go with the sleeve!!!!! -
hi lisa voice chat option?? sounds like a good idea not sure either how it would be done/or how it would work ok bud - ball is in your court

Hi There!
ProudGrammy replied to Stacy Pendergest-Sandlin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Stacy Welcome to VST There is "safety in distance" ask any question You are worth more than cost of any car - and you don't depreciate - you are worth more as time goes on You "only" lost 14 lbs. - NO NO NO - not allowed to say the "O" word - if you say that word, you will receive 1000 whips with a wet noodle Loosing any weight, we Celebrate - you are not gaining that weight, which is a good thing NEWBIES frequently doubt their weight loss is sufficient./enough - Any weight loss you accomplish is great - as Wolfgirl said - "never compare yourself to others" - how fast you loose, the amount you loose - things do happen differently for everyone - don't worry, you'll continue to be great Enjoy your long forever journey through Sleeveland into health, happiness and a great life keep up the good work -
Trimming On Down!
ProudGrammy replied to valdostaGA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
valdostaGA 8.5 lbs lost per week good job WooHoo -
NEWBIES some people are extremely tired, weak, sore, "maybe" a little nautious after being sleeved. you are having WLS on a Monday - staying out of work for a week is a reasonable amount of time....some people have no problems, tired etc. - go back in 3-4 days - while others a couple of weeks + how was that for a direct answer/ sorry bud bottom line - you can't know when you will be able to go back to work - til after WLS - and see how you feel if you have the time, rest a bit at home, take it easy - you just had major surgery, don't rush back to work, and then possibly have a relapse good luck with WLS have a great recovery

What Should I Pack?
ProudGrammy replied to loveIzMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
lovelzMe i didn't bring anything! (except DH ) I wore my sweats so i would feel more comfortable after WLS when i went home i was in hospital 2 days and nights - i slept, walked, most of the time i didn't have any desire for cell/smart phone, ipod, computer, book et al- just had major surgery they supply a nightgown - if you wear your own nightgown, pj's they might get tangled w/IV chap stick is a good idea heating pad too that being said - many people bring the above stuff and alot more - and thats great too, have i confused you yet there is a thread on the board - what should you bring to hospital good luck w/WLS speedy recovery -
Got My Feelings Hurt...
ProudGrammy replied to stacie9229's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
stacie holy moley - am i seeing correctly? - you have lost 112 lbs so far!! without hurting your arm, reach back and give yourself a pat on the back as mentioned, sizes fit differently from manufacture to another - same thing must have happened w/that belt "they" told you to buy a smaller size because the belts are supposedly "huge" you listened to "them" like any good customer would/should - they messed up, not you to add insult to injury - they actually want to charge you an additional $8.00 to return the belt!!! are you kidding me??? ljam75 is right on target suggesting you keep the belt for motivation "feeling fat all over again" - girlfriend, don't give into shame and stuff you felt from before you lost weight. (never should have felt that way before, but thats easier said than done, i felt the same way) don't return the belt, periodically, try that belt on - before you know it, you can strutt your stuff and wear it with pride and a feeling of accomplishment to that new job of yours big kudos on your weight loss keep up the good work take care -
dadci i liked your positive post hope soon to be sleever and NEWBIES enjoyed reading your post there are times a poster writes bad experiences, thats totally ok - they unfortunately happened its nice to see a post from a NEWBIE like you stating they had no complications, and are alive to say that!!! good for you continued speedy recovery

Putting Off Surgery
ProudGrammy replied to IncredibleShrinkingViolet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
incredible ShrinkingViolet what a great attitude you have having to delay your WLS for about 9 months - not complaining, even though you are probably disappointed what a mess about finances, sick leave , glad insurance will still be there for you hope you are recovering nicely from knee replacement take care next year you will be on your way to count down for the sleeve good luck -
hey bud bossy, i don't think so - i enjoy reading from more experienced "wiser" sleevers don't see you around the board much - come back more often, ok

Will The Nausea Ever Stop?
ProudGrammy replied to okstate2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hey guy welcome to the new world of the sleeve where you will find health and happiness i see your 36th b'day was on 10/30 - what a great present you gave yourself!!! nauseous, being tired - 4 days postop - totally normal - at this early stage in the game i don't think its anything to worry about you should start feeling better gradually take care happy belated b'day -
Ok hun don't open your wallet yet - don't jump to conclusions i have question per your profile DOS 10/12/12 SW 210 CW 140 70 lbs down GW 120 did i write the above correctly??? not sure if your present weight from 3 weeks ago has anything to do with problems you are feeling - no restriction?? not sure if theres a relationship? - you lost alot of weight pre-op, congrats on that big time glad you are going to talk w/your dr the standard removal of the stomach i believe is 85% - if he was going to remove less, i think that would have been a discussion whatever part of your stomach was removed - you should be careful of what you eat still since your stomach is still in the healing process from major surgery - solids are probably warrented by now if thats what dr told you, but still take it easy don't experiment with how much food your stomach is allowing you to eat, then not feeling any restriction, you are afraid surgery might not have been done perfectly? one thing at a time - dry your eyes - if your post op isn't for awhile - i would make a phone call or two to find out what did happen during surgery, how much of your stomach was removed etc. - mention the lack of restriction you "don't" feel. don't panic - hopefully everything will work out, you'll get some answers to your important questions - and you'll feel better - one step at a time - don't jump to any conclusions talk to the dr and take if from there hope i said the above ok???

hey Tex hurting your ankle? - sounds like you'll be out of commission for a while - no elliptical, treadmill for you !!!! but........you can exercise your hand lift Water btl to mouth then down, repeat, lift arm up, put down - lift up, put down etc. you deserve a short rest after hurting yourself, but if you want to be diligent - situps are good, maybe sit on a chair - leg lifts - if you have weights with you sit down and do exercises with them - i wouldn't carry my weights along with me though - so you can even use some "cans" Soup cans ex to lift with your arms - of course they are totally light, but you will keep your arms limber forgot your swimming suit - oh well....next time i'll call and remind you to bring your suit take it easy - don't beat yourself up over forgetting certain staples you use to exercise. the ellipticil machine and treadmill will have to miss you for awhile - but you'll hop back soon don't push yourself on a machine - only to possibly make matters worse and rehurt the injury you are doing great with your weight loss, down 52 lbs WooHoo!!!!! how long are you out of town? (btw, why didn't you invite me to tag along ) thats ok "this" time, we're still friends for now, concentrate on healing your ankle - the other stuff will come in time take care

Huge Nsv Today! And Sale At Jcpenny's
ProudGrammy replied to sramos89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sramos89 as far as attaining a goal, sometimes i set my goal on the lower end, then when i do better - i feel great you'll get to onederland soon, i can see it in your determined smiling face WooHoo - down 19 lbs your first month PO - good for you!!! leaving women's plus sizes - great accomplishment - i was so happy when that happened to me. i agree that you MUST buy new clothes, especially on sale, it would be a real sin to leave them on the shelves for someone else to buy i tell my DH that all the time - i'm not really "spending" money - I'm saving it, i'm buying stuff yeah - but i'm doing us a favor by buying it on such an indecent sale - it would be criminal if i didn't buy it!!! so what happens ?? more and more clothes in my closet, and i don't feel like a criminal!!! keep buying those temporary smaller sizes, its great - one day when you grow up - you'll be in a small size forever!!! keep up the good work bud
