You are only one week post- op, the weight will come off you can't help but lose weight with the little you are drinking now - not even eating yet please don't be a slave to that darn scale good luck

    4 Wks Post Op Miserable

Lux531 you are right - everyone needs to do their research - but it sounds like you had good comments from others saying WLS is good, helpful - only a few minor side effects (like gas, tiredness etc.) its good for "soon to be sleevers" to be aware of problems that "could" go along with the WLS - you being in medical profession (or even if you weren't) - the chance of complications/risks unfortunately are always there) a complication could happen when someone has a "splinter removed" come on - you know i'm not comparing the severity of the two - but things happen, hopefully get fixed there are the leaks and other bad stuff glad you are taking care/addressing the problem -(no postage needed ) hope you are better ASAP still would like to know your progress good luck sorry i overreacted take care my friend keep drinking

    4 Wks Post Op Miserable

Lux531 re-read my post - sorry i soulded so "warning, warning" it just seemed you weren't able to hold anything down - and it did sound scary, like i said "i can only imagine how you feel" sorry i over reacted - but it still sounds kind of serious to me glad your dr is aware of everything, and your staying on top of it you and DW being in the medical field - good -you should know what to do, and how to "initially" care for yourself, glad you realize you still need help from the doc good luck - at 4+ weeks - feel better sooner than later ok????

    4 Wks Post Op Miserable

Lux531 I am so very sorry you are having these complication from surgery you have kept in touch with your surgeon/NUT/dr right???- i'm sure you know this has been essentioal these past days, weeks, since you've been home and have your situation you haven't been dealing for the past 4 weeks with out any help/advice?right, you wouldn't do that, right??? if you did WLS locally, you should continue to see/talk to dr as long as this is going on if you did this out of country - call their office too - but you need immediate action i know many people have trouble getting Water in the beginning post WLS - they have trouble holding regular Clear liquids down You probably can't handle a Protein shake - because its thicker with milk and your tummy won't hold it down trying powder with water???? stick to push the envelope very slowly with water, popsicles at least to give you a certain, wetness/liquid the regular drinking is without if ands or butts imperative - people can not exist without water after awhile, if you are not taking any in without have to vomit shortly after this must not continue poor you, i can only imagine how you feel - it must be horrible to say the least all that being said............. IMO you have all of our ears and sympathy, but WE need help in helping you - we're not dr go see your dr - i'm sure you have, right???? keep on it - if he is there with you locally, and you stay in necessary touch - i'm sure you are probably dehydrated - since you can't keep any liquids down dr.s knowledge will probably tell you to go directly to ER and get IV fluids !!!! NOW - i can't imagine a "wait, see, work harder" attitude you are now 4 weeks out, days are passing - you must get help please tell us whats going on, vent to us - i can only "encourage" you MUST take it upon yourself to take action if you don't have anyone at home, family, friends locally.............i hope there is someone that can take action to help you out - if not - reach out to someone to help take a cab immediately to the hospital - or just dial 911 i'm being in such a "concerned" - lecturing state - because that is how i am reading your message - 4 weeks not being able to hold water - food/protein aren't as important - THEY aren't life threatening but going without liquids....... you need water and help - please take action immediately sorry if i sound so desparate for you - get going call dr. do something thoughts, concerns, good wishes go your way please come back and tell us whats going on - you opened the door by telling us your problem - now we wante to follow your improvement / status don't give in, things must and can be taken care of immediately - with the right help, things will gradually go your way, improving take care

    to a new life.....

mychange me again!!! surgery has improved my health tremendously, no more diabetes meds, insulin, high blood pressure meds, and no more CPAP i was supposed to have knee replacement then a few months later WLS - dr changed the order of surgery ortho wanted me to lose weight first 4/26/12 - 4 1/2 months post WLS i was down about 50 lbs - had knee replacement - much easier to recuperate with less weight, PT was much better - and now my knees are terrific- other knee replaced few years ago enjoying new life don't mean to push the surgery too much, hmmm maybe i do it really is great luck again
  10. hi all - i haven't been able to lose my weight since the birth of my daughter - that was 35 years ago. lolol . I am a 58 year old married grandmother of 3. Disability retired since 2006. Since the age of about 23, for my b'day I always got a wt. watchers cupcake with one candle on it from my mother. She never knew how much that hurt. anyways.... that was then, the best is yet to come as they say. I gained 30 lbs over the past 6 months!! OMG bringing me to the heaviest weight of my life. Thats when I said enough is enough - so here i am waiting for surgery - so excited. I've been totally dormant for these past years, watching tv, not getting out much. Having rt. knee replacement in march, after i lose some of this wt. This will help me be more mobile, feel a little better about myself, and hopefully give me enough encouragement to leave the house and do some volunteer work at the hospital. sounds like a plan, right ) I've always yo yo'd trying to lose this wt., and i figured enough was enough. I threw out my "big" clothes from earlier when i lost some weight, i wish i still had them - because i refuse to go out and spend a million dollars on new clothes. I will buy a couple of sweat pants, and one pair of jeans. Hopefully in a few months i'll be down some. Don't know how much to expect, but can't wait for a change. Do or die!! I have diabetes, high blood pressure, and chl. and sleep apnea. Probably the norm for many. Unfortunately much much of my weight is in my stomach - is that pear shape? They say the stomach is the worst health wise place to have the excess - it sure looks horrible, but no extra weight looks great. Enjoying reading the boards, looking forward to some help later bye for now LiKaSuLeMa -FYI these are the first two initials of myself and siblings. 45 years ago my father had a subscription to a kids magazine, and he addressed it the above way, so no kid would get jealous!!!

    to a new life.....

hi fellow grandma!!!! (grandma's here are NOT a rare commodity!!) early on??? no decisions made yet??? sure this is a little scary at first - later too sometimes, but IMO its so worth it sorry your hubby isn't supportive right now, hopefully he'll understand and come along and be in your corner there are risks with life, any surgeries - you hear some bad stories, they stick out in your mind - but the truth is, the "good" stories are all over the board sure people comment their regrets, possible problems..............but that can happen with any surgeries saying all this cuz its out there that being said - IMO most everyone is thrilled with their sleeve. main, constant complaint is when people say "I wish I had had the surgery years ago" DOS 12/15/11 235 lbs 11 months later 11/14/12 138 lbs 97 lbs gone forever 3 til goal and century club yeah, i'm a believer good luck with your decision, hope you decide to go ahead with surgery if you've struggled with your weight, yo yo all your life like me and so many others of course, whatever is best for you - go for it i can tell you are an intelligent grand-mother, and you will do the smart thing and have the surgery btw - this proud grammy has 3 of the most terrific grand-kids, present board company excluded!! good luck take care

    Last Week Sleevers..lets Chat..

IsB hey guy - 2 weeks post op, feeling ok, thats good, dr cleared you for the elliptical already??? sounds like your doing great imo - just my opinion, i wouldn't push the envelope w/the eliptical, upping the resistence yet - unless dr says ok - sounds alittle early to be exercising so riggorously i wasn't cleared for much exercise til 6 weeks we all know that all drs are different sorry you are feeling hunger pangs you weren't on liquids much, eating regular solids yet??? if you are still with the soft - cottage cheese, yogurt your restriction will increase once your on more normal food like chicken you say you get full easily, thats great - solids usually help keep someone full longer with that restriction in your new and improved smaller tummy you "might" be dealing with head hunger - lots of us have that at different times take care my friend keep on keepin on enjoy that new best friend - the sleeve

    2# A Week?

wendy (aka NEWBIE) hey bud look me straight in the eyes - come on straight in the eyes and listen up You're down 17 lbs within 5 weeks WooHoo that's terrific!!!! when was the last time you lost that amount??? you "might" have done that before - but this time you'll be able to keep this weight and more to follow, off - as long as you work with your new best friend - the sleeve Celebrate every inch, ounce, lb of difference in measurements and weight "2 lbs a week is very realisic and healthy" great words of wisdom from UTGal99 now UT, i'd like that payoff for saying that per our agreement in 20 $1.00 bills!!! NO one loses weight in the same time period, amount of weight etc. that others do. We're all different in everything regarding weightloss you are barely 5 weeks PO - you can't even say you are a slow loser - you are barely out of the gate!! keep doing what you are doing, follow basic guidelines for sleeveland and see where the chips land!! stop drinking 15-30 minutes before you eat, don't drink during your meals, or Snacks - don't drink after you eat for about 45 - 60 minutes - AND drink as much water/liquids as possible - 64 oz daily at least chew each bite to little pieces til basically mush in your mouth, (yeach  ) put silverware down between bites - take a 2-3 minute break before you eat again - eat your meal very slowly, you are in no hurry - despite what i used to think pre WLS - no one is going to grab the plate away from you also suggested to put your measured food on/in small bowl - i bought a banded amount of those baby sized plates/bowls - makes it look like you are eating more than you really are these are all basic rules that most NEWBIES et al know, good "material" can never be repeated too often above measurements, drinks, directions, et al should be given to you by your NUT - and her explicit directions should always be followed!! i didn't follow "the rules" most of my life - thats why i dealt with the battle of the bulge up and down most of my adult life NEWBIES et al might have expected to go to bed one night PO - and wake up with ALL their weight gone, out the window, down the toilet etc. - Notttt - doesn't work that way you'll be great, enjoy your new, healthier, happier days for the rest of your longer llife!!!! God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It!!!!! take care bud aka NEWBIE hope i didn't sound to "preachy"

How To Lose This Stomach Help!

Letia Griggs first off, i wasn't "asked" if i was pregnant, it was just assumed many years ago - someone said something like "oh, when are you due? " EGADS - that is the worst, possibly others have dealt with this too i used to tell people sometimes something like "yeah, i gotta get rid of this baby weight" someone would say, oh when did you have a baby - i would say 35 years ago!!!! couldn't get it off still LOL no extra "baby" weight now - great feeling I "only" had to loose 100 lbs - yeah right, i thought that was "only" - anyways, i really figured i wouldn't have that excess tummy Wwwwwrong - its a little "pouch" kindof hangs there reminding me that i lost all that weight - its not bad, no tummy tuck in my future bought a new one piece bathing suit that looks nice on me - wear it for Water aerobics, otherwise, wouldn't be caught dead in bathing suit  as far as "loosing" the stomach - you "look" like a youngun? right? when you are younger, it might be a little easier , your excess tummy skin might get "stronger" tighter with exercise??? therefore you won't have that "pouch" or not too bad think thats right when you are an "ol' fart" (did i really just say that? ) its not as easy to get rid of extra skin keep exercising - always good for you and skin take care bud good luck

    Nearly 4 Years On

glad your stomach is winning - and you can't eat too much no fun making yourself get sick cuz you ate more than you should have my surgeon jokingly tells me - eat til i'm full, then stop 2 bites earlier!!!! yeah, gotta take care of some head issues, we all have them, you have done so great, continued success 4 years PO - maybe dealing with a couple of food issues, after all they are not going to stop overnight (the issues we had forever) take care my friend - don't let the "devil"/food win - you went through a lot for your success, you can continue, and do better too good luck my friend
  19. Lissa great NSV - i can only imagine how happy you have felt with all your weight loss- successes btw haven't seen you around in a bit, then again, maybe you were standing sideways, too little to see now show that "little" self more often, love to hear and see more (less) of you keep those NSV's coming

    What If?

Di-Sleeve sorry you are not feeling well - but you are early in the game - you and your new tummy are one week old feeling a little dizzy after walking a bit, you are weak from major surgery - thats ok to be tired - you deserve that extra nap - you've been through a lot!! i think its better to over react "alittle" maybe, than ignore certain signs of a possible problem IMO, being weak at 7 days post WLS is nothing to worry about call the dr tomorrow if it makes you feel better, take it slow, rest - you are not ready for the olympics yet if your tummy doesn't give you any trouble while drinking - then yes push the fluids, popsicles can suppliment the need for liquid - but nothing like the real thing push the liquids - you might surprise yourself that you'll feel stronger/not as weak happy speedy recuperation good luck

    Last Week Sleevers..lets Chat..

AaronRene 1rst things first per your profile - happy early 11/15 b'day WooHoo!!!! you gave yourself quite a b'day present!!!! sorry you had such an awful time with the hospital - staff should NEVER be too overworked etc., not to be able to help a pt - especially one POST WLS, with a fever - your dr eventually knew about the temp, right??? glad you are doing better at home - don't be shy about taking pain meds - thats why they were given to you silly take them for a bit to help you feel better - no martyrs in sleeveland have a toast with a friend on thursday for your b'day Water of course take care bud
  22. ProudGrammy

    Last Week Sleevers..lets Chat..

wonderfuss understandable that you are alittle tired. have a good nap but.......i'm confused - ..if you are not too successful in getting in much of your Protein shake (which after one week or so is totally understandable) how are you getting in 50 g of protein, did i miss something??? just curious, but you know what they say about curiosity good luck with re-cuperation, getting all your strength back too, but take a nap for me too

    Two Months Out Pics

newgrandmother if her brain is the size of her little booty, no wonder she said such a stupid hurtful thing i'm sorry you were on the receiving end of that comment i think some people put others down because it makes them "feel" superior, - we shouldn't let them get the best of us - (easier said then done,) they are showing their ignorance IMO gotta pull yourself up, all that good stuff - don't let that "23 year old" get the best of you - you are better than that - and she'll never be able to hold a candle to you btw - attention 23 year old sleevers (you know who you are!!) wow, what a great age 23 is - if memory goes back 25 years but that "person" shouldn't have said that remark - but to all other younguns, 23 years old - you are the best!!!!! great pictures keep up the good work after all, us grandma's have to stick together
