My Mom Is Having Surgery On 12/03

bethany glad you are doing so well - exciting your mom is about to embark on her new healthier life too but oh no - say its not sooooo................. Mom's in her 50's??? reallly OMG sorry bud i am not really laughing at you, just smiling DOS 12/15/11 235 lbs 11 months later 11/16/12 138 lbs 98 lbs down 2 lbs til goal and century club i'll be 59 in about 2 months, and i'm still around kicking i had NO problems pre-op, post op - recovery - no gas, excess tiredness - had a smooth recovery i just have to get out of my rocking chair once and awhile, adjust my hearing aide, clean my dentures, change my depends, then start all over again oh no, i'm sorry i'm just enjoying this too much!!! ok....seriously - you are being concerned about your mom, that is really nice and totally understandable to be worried about your mom's outcome from pending WLS i can guarentee you there are no guarentee's - but you know that hopefully all will go smoothly - prepare for the worst, but hope and expect the best i had been on diabetes meds et al for the past 20+ years diabetes meds/insulin - high blood pressure meds - CPAP - all disappeared early Post Op age didn't effect me - you are as young as you feel as mom loses weight and gets healthier - she will eventually be mistaken for you "more mature" sister i don't think looking from the outside that your age gives any bad/different side effects maybe, only thing i could think - age/metabolism, exercising, maybe a little different when you are in your 50's then when you are in your 20's - but everything is different as age is a factor. hope i'm saying this right lets not sell mom short - hopefully she'll follow your great footsteps and you can help each other out - after all, she's gotta be pretty terrific, she raised you, and look how you turned out i always love it when i see family members being sleeved togehter - spouses, siblings, mom and daughter etc. good luck to the both of you extra good thoughts to mom btw there are sleevers in their 50's and 60's too!!! maybe 70's - whats in a # right? hope you didn't mind my silly jokes, cuz thats all they were have a great week-end

    Introducing Myself

Marilyn welcome to the board glad you have some visits left with your NUT - since you can't see NUT that often, make sure to gather all your questions and write them out for her - you can always ask the board questions, advice - but we don't have the degree - you/ we need the help of a professional too - we're "just" laymen Dr./NUT should give you more info how much this or that you should eat, what kind of Vitamins to take - just getting good medical advice from a NUT is good/important for me, as i got further out PO, i was able to eat more - i'm probably at my limit of 2/3 c per meal, around 900-1,000 calories per day (11 months PO) all dr/surgeons/NUTS are different - vary with different thoughts, ideas, advice sounds like you are doing well/ and your doc is giving you good info - down 44 lbs - 20 inches, 2 months - WooHoo 500 calories, not counting carbs now - i don't "think" those are ridiculous points for now not counting carbs?? I've heard from some sleevers - that dr isn't big on carb counting- some dr's go with that. you can still keep track of your carbs./food/drink via MFP or other tracker - that can only help multi-vitamin only??? you could talk to dr about that one - taking the B12, calcium, are good, can't hurt - but talk to the doc/or NUT concerning any doubts you have - thats why they are there don't/shouldn't compare your dr orders to orders you've heard about on the board from other sleevers - both sets of dr.s are right for them, just shouldn't get mixed signals from different people - will get to confusing, should follow one person IMO also don't compare your weight loss, or how long it takes you to lose - with any other sleevers results your dr. sounds ok to me??? always ok to question about stuff that doesn't sit well with you - better to ask a question - he/and NUT should be able to help you out not being a bariatric surgeon/expert, IMO he still sounds good you didn't mention complication you had with the surgery, or after - so hopefully things went pretty well? limitted gas, vomitting, tiredness good luck with all see you around the neighborhood

  11. Marquel What Rootman et al have said is right on target!!! i saw my PCP yesterday - he is continuously amazed at my progress, co-morbitities gone! yeah, i have some extra fatty areas in the face, oh well i'm now living "the healthy American" "dream" but my eyes are open good luck bud
  12. Gina Welcome back, we've missed you and your pretty smile coming here for tough love is great!!! wanting that kick in the butt?? we can do that til you hurt coming back here for support - very helpful you acknowledging/taking responsiblity for your eating "problems", lack of exercise???? that is 1/2 the battle!! good for you never too late to get back on the road - you fell off the wagon for a bit - but sounds like you seriously know/want to get back on track you know what to do, the drinking, Protein, not many carbs, sweets - you know this bud understand that after being "absent" for awhile - things might be difficult at first - like you said you spent alot of money on this WLS - you wanted the sleeve to "help" you with your eating - so......get to work can't change the past - work with the future, its what you make of it - and i can tell you want good things to happen!!!! back to portion control - drinking your 64 oz. - not drinking with meals...you know the routine - grit your teeth and do what you know you're supposed to do!!!! its that easy, but of course its that hard !!! never compare your weight loss to your friends (or anyone on the board) you know better chic successful sleevers you know as friends - wow take advantage of them - they are right there for you - they probably want/and would love to help you!!! support groups in your area??? groups can be very helpful, maybe talking to a stranger is easier than talking to a personal friend/family, that either can't understand your WLS situation - or someone you'd rather not talk to because of possible embarrassement??? sounds like a plan, getting back to MFP - write down EVERYTHING you eat, that way you might check it out later and say "OMG i can't believe i ate that yesterday" - MFP is a good reminder what you did, hopefully showing you NOT to eat that again. starting back to basics for a bit - Protein shakes maybe (yeach!!) lots of liquids- it will get you moving in a faster way, giving you quicker results, success, encouragement "destined to be obese forever"???bite your tongue - not gonna happen to you or anyone as long as you take care of yourself and follow the plan - not only til you arrive at goal - not off the "hook" then!!! this is your new life - embrace it - you were smart to "sign" up for the WLS - get going with what you already know to do oh dear, re-read what i just wrote - didn't mean to sound "preachy", be hard on you, or be so long, but...... you wanted/needed that tough love, right??? get back in the game take "determination/willpower" pills they sell at your local grocery store I know you can do this congrats on keeping 63.2. lbs off - good luck take care
  13. LadyK Very happy for you i can see the determination in your face, that those 59 lbs will soon be repeated with another 29,39, etc. lb - then continued, slow and steady, no race necessary don't compare your weight loss to others - we all lose at different rates- love those lbs you see going down on the scale - don't forget to monitor your measurements - they tell another great story continue this euphoria - awwww, what would i do without my dictionary and thesaurus stay well, keep up the great work hoping to see "less" of you next time take care bud WooHoo

    It Feels Amazing!

kendra awwww shucks - thanx for your nice words  i have a 36 yr old daughter, she could be your "big" sister!!! I would then become your "bigger" sister but............i no longer fit in the "bigger" category!!! therefore, i'll be proud to be your more "mature" sister/friend see you around the Water cooler sis
  15. Jen Awwww, hun - she didn't reject you - would have been nicer if she had called you back to speak with you about the situation. I can understand how you might interpret what happened in "not the greatest way" please don't let this set you back "For your own sake, try not to think of this as a rejection--sometimes things like this really do happen and it's not personal." I totally agree with the words of wisdom from icon23 - (what a smartie pants ) therapists don't scare off that easily "too messed up to deal with this?" nawwwww, i can tell - this was a test for you - you passed the test, now move on to a different person since you decided to see a therapist, food issues (of course we all have them) overweight, surgery - its nice to be able to talk to someone - you'll find someone else you'll "click" with take care good luck with WLS

    Who's Eating Pureed Foods Already?

hey NEWBIE never have admitted this to anyone - so please mums the word, but.............. i hated pureed foods, the thought of it was terrible to me PdxMan made his usual great comments/suggestions i "kindof" skipped over that stage - i did tell NUT - she was ok with it, cuz she didn't have a choice, this was one thing i wasn't gone budge on most people don't mind pureeds - i'm sure its good just not for me luv your thumbs up!!! glad you are happy, enjoying your new food to be love each new day with your new best friend the sleeve good luck ps - i know i can trust you - this is our secret, thanx
