Any Hints For First Days After Surgery.
ProudGrammy replied to Mortensenmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mortensenmommy WLS December 3rd- excited, nervous - common feelings when you are about to have surgery my dr. never put me on a pre-op diet- you could put yourself on a "self-imposed" diet" - do as i say not as i do you have one week before WLS practice drinking as much Water as possible (64+ oz is the goal) stop drinking 1/2 before you eat don't drink with food/meal wait about 45 minutes after you eat before you drink these are approximate time periods - NUT will be more specific - always listen to your NUT check with NUT regarding coffee, stop drinking regular and diet soda (problem w/carbonation)- your NUT might tell you different later one NUT will say different from another NUT - they are all alittle "cracked" decide you won't be a slave to your scale - only weigh yourself about once a week all people lose weight at a different speed, and different amounts - never compare yourself to others in regards to your weight loss amount, time it takes you to lose get back into exercise hmmmm, a couple of suggestions/comments good luck speedy recovery -

ttammara hi there i would ask United Health Care for some type of "written authorization" saying that you have been "blessed" I was approved by United Health Care i also would check to find out the pre-requisites for being approved - i know they told you about the co-morbities and BMI - sounds good I have heard stories here where people say that they were approved on the phone, then prior to WLS, they found out they weren't approved just playing devil's advocate - not meaning to scare you sounds great that insurance said "all is well" - i would just feel better with written confirmation, but thats just me good luck

Beaversla one of my first meeting w/NUT - she told me not to chew gum?? it happens that i'm not a "gum chewer" but i was surprised at her initiating this subject she told me if i were to swallow the gum - i could be in trouble , and something surgically might have to be done???? oh wellll..????

selbradey DOS 11/19 easy to tolerate food, liquids??? sounds like your sleeve is being a good sleeve, and allowing you to drink what you are supposed to - broth, liquids - doesn't sound like you are overdueing anything your dr. said ok to - eat yogurt, pudding, Jello et al - couple of spoonfulls sounds like you are doing fine, don't look for trouble many many people don't start to feel the restriction of the sleeve until they start on solids take care speedy recovery

First Holiday After Being Sleeved Was Interesting
ProudGrammy replied to jennrus's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jennrus DH and I went out to a buffet. It was nice , but it was strange the "food situation" As we barely enterred the room, i saw the dessert table right there in front of me. I immediately turned aound with mixed feelings - but i was definitely laughing/crying inside???said to DH - OGM I don't believe this Looking at that mass amount of desserts!!!! OMG when i used to be a "normal" person i would have gone out for a buffet with the intent that "boy oh boy, i can eat as much as i want!!! no more Had delicious roast beef, sweet potatoe, and almond green Beans - little, little, little of course. i love stuffing, BUT the "sign" said cornbread sausage stuffing -NoThank you - i knew i would hate it!!! Then a bunch of other stuff i knew i shouldn't/wouldn't eat-so i lucked out, food wasn't that tempting to me I used one of those small plates you put a roll on before the meal, waitress came with Water, I told her i just had stomach surgery and i couldn't eat much. I would like a take out container, she told me she had to check with her supervisor. came back 5 minutes later with a nice container and cover when you are at a buffet you really shouldn't be granted the request of leftovers - but i was honest and they were gracious not to mention we paid good money, and the amount of food i ate might have fed a bird LOL at the end of the meal i went back and filled a regular size plate with roast beef and little little amount of sweet potatoe too - put in in the container, will have 3-4 meals LOL After dinner i went to the table - put a cut up square of raspberry yummy something, and a piece of cherry pie. I had 3-4 bits of each - yumm yumm ate and chewed so slowly, i enjoyed it and didn't regret anything i ate. I give thanx for many things for our life that we are lucky to have but then i got a little sad don't mean to get toooo profound but all i couldn't help but think there are so many obese people in the world (not to mention that room) there are so many starving people something is wrong with this picture -
Hey Newbie welcome if you think you are happy now, give it a few more days - you will be ecstic great life is in front of you - enjoy the ride

Starting To Really Freak Out.
ProudGrammy replied to ShrinkyDinkMe22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ShrinkyDinkMeToo22 ahhhhh, the wise words of Dooter!!! many people come on the board commenting how wonderful their WLS was - no problems, great recovery, etc. but................. stories you hear from people that had unfortunate side effects/problems during surgery, leaks, right after surgery, hard recovery et al small % of sleevers those are the stories that stick out in your mind - yes there is a small % of sleevers that have had problems, and its good to hear their stories, to a point it is good to know the whole story behind "possible" problems with WLS ANY and ALL surgeries have their possible problems try not to let those issues over ride your happiness/excitement - initial wise decision to have the WLS i'm one one of the many many happy recipients of the sleeve - i didn't have problems pre-op or post op - and 11 1/2 months post op i'm one happy camper good luck to all soon to be sleevers speedy recoveries -

Piercings During Surgery
ProudGrammy replied to Jalese's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jalese losing weight - feeling better about myself, confidence went hand in hand tattoo - that was very exciting!!!! above my right wrist M A E heart under each letter MAE initials in small script 1 small heart under each initial tactfully done, looks amazing - i love the feeling that i did this for me (didn't hurt at all, really) stand for first initial of each of my amazing grandkids (Morgan, Andrew, Ethan) - having one heart under each initial signifying they are the loves of my life  having my front teeth capped, improved my appearance different hair color - i was being brave!! face lift??? (1/20/13) after this skin loss, it will help me look and feel better more "to do" will follow, DH is a little scared of whats next!? i wouldn't have even thought of doing such things pre-WLS having the sleeve has made me healthy, self-confident - -
Surgery First Or Baby First?
ProudGrammy replied to heatherjo7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
heatherjo7 Last year, while i was "obese" I was going to have my 2nd knee replacement 2 months before WLS you are now considering having a new baby before WLS? having WLS first, losing a lot of weight before knee surgery was extremely helpful-easier for me with PT and other things with my walking IMO losing weight prior to any surgery is the way to go having a baby is different of course maybe, not a fair analogy?? to me weight loss first is a better option sounds like you have made the wise decision to lose weight first after you have the wonderful baby - you'll be all the healthier, and able to run after him!!! mwrrr made a good suggestion on visiting the other boards for help/advice on pregnancy/losing weight prior to baby - and gaining during pregnancy - and wanting to lose after the fact good luck to you -
