Am I ever going to be normal?
ProudGrammy replied to Lisa22465's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lisa22465 freaking about WLS is common. most all of us get nervous before surgery you will not be committed to a life of bland food - i.e. chicken you will not be condemned to a world of Protein shakes and Jello - promise you will gradually eat all foods, spicey et al - just very very small portions. but remember your tummy is now very small too, so it won't take much to satisfy your and tummy, you will be/feel full chicken and fish, esp. are high in protein - which is always specified - but all other foods - soup to nuts are accepted!!! key word is moderation eating at a restaurant - fitting comfortably in booth - is terrific get a take out container at beginning of meal - put most of food away - leave proper portion on your plate-you will probably have food at home 2-3 servings hmmm - per Webster - normal -???? usual/natural/average were you normal before?? i was never "normal" i.e. couldn't fit in booths, walk up flights of stairs, ride a rollercoaster, do a 5K, play the violin. now that i've lost 100 lbs i can do all the above now (still can't play violin ) you will love your new, healthier, happier life good luck with WLS speedy recovery -
Surgery postponed (Hurricane Sandy)
ProudGrammy replied to colcol's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Colleen sorry about being laid off from work - yet another fall out of horrible hurricane sandy You post-poned your WLS - you still have it scheduled?? what is the new date? having "cold feet?" buy a pair of fuzzy slippers!!! no cold feet allowed here being seen by a "shrink" is normal protacol. we've all been there done that as far as hearing stories from past sleevers about the WLS - i suggest to go to "search" put in "Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story??? as the above title thread implies - you will hear from many happy campers who have loved their WLS, and proudly tell their story you'll find other comments/successes through out the board from other happy sleevers you can hear, read all the good stories, maybe "a few" bad thoughts too but. 99.5% good comments you came to the wise decision before to have the WLS, don't second guess yourself most people will say "WLS was the best thing they ever did!!!" I'm nodding my head in agreement good thoughts and wishes being sent take care -
My surgeon doesn't tell me anything....
ProudGrammy replied to smallbird's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
smallbird i'm sorry your surgeon isn't being helpful - he sounds useless to me. all newbies are afraid they will stretch their stomachs, i was too. As Cheri said "you can't stretch your stomach" 85% of your tummy is now gone!!! sounds like you don't have a NUT listen to others on board - take pieces here and there about how to eat and drink you know the rules with drinking? don't drink for 1/2 hr before you eat, don't drink while you eat, don't drink for an hour after you eat. drink . most important to drink as much as you can - 64 oz plus - eat slowly, chew thoroughly since you are so early out, and not getting much advice from dr, support groups are always good to attend, others can help you, advise you - tell their situations good luck, things will work out -

how much are you eating 4 months out?
ProudGrammy replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
SleeveShelly per NUT, i measured, volume portions all the time - 1/3 cup - 2/3 cup ie at 4 months po i think you should have never stopped measuring your food - its too early, and many people continue to measure - then you won't accidentally over eat - larger portion - and digest too many calories there i things that i frequently eat, like home made chili - i use my baby bowl - i know exactly how much i am supposed to eat, so in other words i don't measure any more there are foods that i can guesstimate but at one year post op - (not always) but i still do measure -

Anyone Have A Relatively Easy Recovery Story?
ProudGrammy replied to Birdy18's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
great to see a thread telling pre-sleevers, newbies - that sleeve experiences, recoveries go so well. my situation was great no nausea, gas, vomitting - not even super tired - walking around and drinking - things went smoothly people do need to see both sides of the stomach, I mean coin there are sleevers that unfortunately have bad outcomes from WLS - and their stories are important to hear. we shouldn't act like ostriches with our heads buried in the sand - its ok to know what "possibly" could happen. the % of these serious problems are far and few between IMO most surgeries go smoothly, well, with out any complication - the normal side effects, nausea, vomitting, gas, all that good stuff - small price to pay for such a wondersul surgery and great outcome for the rest of our longer healthier happier lives good luck to all pre-sleevers and newbies you are in for the ride of a lifetime -
back at ya girlfriend here is to seeing less and less of all of us this new year
