My Biggest FEAR is not the Operation but....
ProudGrammy replied to JMS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
JMS ghrelin is the hormore that is produced in the stomach that works with the brain to signal that you are hungy this hormone (I think) is supressed (not made??) after surgery for awhile - therefore you shouldn't be hungry post WLS to be very honest though - some people react differently, and still are hungry just throwing that comment in, but i "think" for the most part - peoples hunger is diminished for awhile for me "it" worked for approximately 6 months - then i gradually became aware that i was slightly hungry again, having "head" hunger is something "we" have to deal with at times - you think you are hungry, but you really aren't or. you just want to eat "like you used to" similar to Pavlov's Dog - "he" would ring the bell and the dog would always run to the food and eat I'm trying to compare the above with me/us turning on the tv (my/our) trigger - and wanting to eat we all/most have to deal with these hunger feelings eventually 2/28/13 WLS - you are right, it will be here before you know it don't set yourself up already and worry about what may or may not happen concerning being hungry right after surgery - hopefully that won't happen to you (for awhile!) you'll love your sleeve - which deals with a new happy, healthy lifestyle for the rest of your longer life!!! good luck speedy recovery -

sleeved in Mexico now I have no after care.
ProudGrammy replied to jamesapricejr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jamesapricejr there is some sort of "pamphlet", booklet/ guide - with much necessary information post sleeve - people have put the link on - and you can read it i don't know how to do that (i'm so sorry) hopefully OP will know what i'm talking about and post the link for now - couple of things IMO you shouldn't be eating anything yet you just had majory surgery, your new little tummy needs to re-cuperate info from deltadown is great drink Protein shakes, pureed, soft foods - examples from delta ablvoe big instructions on Water you MUST follow once you are on solids stop drinking 30 minutes before you eat NEVER drink with your meals do NOT drink for 45-60 minutes after your meal drink, drink, drink all day supposed to drink at least 64 oz of water a day - do the best that you can you need to drink all that water eat slowly putting your utensil down in between each bite chew thoroughly each bite - literally to "shreds" eat very small portions check with your insurance as suggested - speak with your family dr. - ask if he can help you with labs, if he's experienced with the WLS, if he can help you with questions hopefully you can speak with a NUT (nutritionalist) that can guide you find a support group you could call your local hospital - they could help you out - even though you didn't have WLS through them, they hopefully will tell you of a "group" good luck to you come back here for basic questions, problems, whats going on but i hope you are able to get some one on one help too as you read this board - remember, the one thing in common we all have - is that we're different don't compare yourself to others EVER. i.e. their weight loss, how quickly they lost weight any of that stuff - you are your own person - and you will travel on this "trip" through sleeveland your own way congrats on your success read alot, get good info here good luck -

im not convined
ProudGrammy replied to biggurlsneedlove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hun reassurance/help is on the way there is NO WAY that the sleeve won't work - 85% of your tummy is gone, gone and gone since your tummy is so small - you should be able to eat only "x" amount (whatever your NUT says)- you should ONLY eat that small amount (ie 1/3 cup) DON'T eat anymore than your NUT tells you very important - DO NOT "graze" - which means..... NO eating between meals - eating here and there during the day when you are not supposed to, basically just plain over eating, eventually "possibly" causing you to gain weight - or not lose !!!! feeling depressed, incorrectly telling yourself you are a failure - get over it You are NOT a failure you showed your intelligence by having the WLS - knowing you must lose weight to get healthy. you must follow all the basic rules - Water is very important - are you following that ok? if not, you must try harder stop drinking 1/2 hr before you eat DO NOT drink during meal (or snack) DO NOT drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat you lost 13 lbs pre-op, another 20 lbs after WLS - look at the whole picture - you weigh 33 lbs less than you use to. WooHoo!!! please don't get discouraged you need to remember you have a long road in front of you while losing the weight - but then.... you must still eat correctly for the REST of your life-but you can and WILL do this for your own good/health and happiness No one ever promised you a "rose garden" but you CAN do this - i have confidence in you - i can see you are a winner!! Stop eating those "nasty" foods why are they in the house anyways?? if your response is "you have kids and a boyfriend/husband (both? ) - oh well - they don't need all that junk either clean your kitchen cupboards, pantry - get rid of all "those" things. don't need temptation around eventually - you will be able to have a "bite or two" of a "goody" - but moderation - and for now i would nix any fattening food EVERYTHING that the above people/sleevers' (and the ones to follow) have said are true - (we are all very smart ) suggestions are great!!!! but you must work hard too - you didn't go to bed on a friday night, waking up monday morning with an extra "million" lbs - won't come off in a weekend either gmnatbat gave many great responses to what the sleeve will do, and what it unfortunately will not do do or do not there is no try DO stick to all the rules with the sleeve, do have confidence in yourself - and "DO" tell yourself you are not a failure the sleeve gives one more amazing thing HOPE you now have the chance to lose your weight, and become healthier and happier for the rest of your longer life with your sleeve take care bud good luck my hand is holding up a glass of water toasting to your success -

laceymmm88 WLS has been my life saver most people here will agree there main regret is "not having the surgery earlier " my doc was fine - but i do wish i had "interviewed" other dr too i told my family i was going to have the sleeve - family was very supportive didn't tell any else i'm 13.5 months PO - i tell people about the sleeve, on occasion when "they" start discussing my weight. "they" have ALL been happy for me - never heard a bad "easy way out comment" i wish i had taken /kept"records" before, during period of WLS measurements pictures blog keeping track of my weight/weekly/monthly i finally learned you can't look back with anything - regret or not - can't do anything about the past - what your/my weight used to be that is "behind" us i am concentrating, enjoying the present and soon to be future wishing you the best on your trip through sleeveland speedy recovery take care good luck

Sleeve of Steel see, see, see what happens when you lose 95 lbs - get thin and sexy at 59 i don't "think" i have to worry its lucky the whole world doesn't turn thin and sexy man oh man - what a population explosion we''d have talk to your doc - he'll give you the proper instructions with eating while being pregnant and having had the sleeve i'm sure there won't be any problems with nutrition et al for that "cutie to be" there is some section/board here for "preggo's" like you people will share their process, give help and advise too i know that one of the many great reasons to lose weight is so that "you" can finally get pregnant ladies - you now have "living" proof that "it" can happen to you too you'll have a blessing during these 9 months of anticipation for your bundle of joy POST WLS - you can enjoy running and playing with that cutie happiness and good wishes being sent your way -
I'd rather drink. Is this normal?
ProudGrammy replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
jennig2 enjoy drinking Protein Shakes, 4 weeks??? all that time and you still ENJOY drinking shakes??? OMG you are among a select few that has "survived" drinking those without any "disgust" reading posts, you'll see many, many, many people hate those shakes and can't drink!!!! i'm at the top of that list.!!!!! so kudos that you have drank those shakes for a month - i'm still looking at you in amazement!!! that being said............ you are supposed to get protein in your food now "Denser Proteins will fill you longer as they take more time to process" stealing correct "wise" words from JerseyGirl68 get info from your NUT/surgeon - always listen to THEIR wise words!!!!!! good luck take care -
cant eat chicken breast
ProudGrammy replied to avndas's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
hey dude congrats on your success 109 lbs gone forever, and ever wonderful, wonderful, and pretty darn good !!! many people say they have a problem with eating this or that, i guess chicken and lettuce don't work for you funny, i never had any problem before WLS eating this or that - for example - Cookies, lemon bars, cakes, chips & dips - lasagna, fried chicken............... oooops, sorry i think i passed out for a minute remembering the good 'ol days seriously now (who me ) my sleeve is content eating any foods - but hasn't seen the above foods for over a year take care guy keep up the great job continued good luck congratulations -

How likely is it to gain weight after?
ProudGrammy replied to Harpo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
ok, ok guys - least get past this ok????continueing like we're just starting to talk.. so how are you all doing today jason - congrats on being sleeved in 3 weeks being excited, scared, nervous, anxious, - all that good stuff - completely normal - been there, done that per most/all dr.s / nuts - the sleeve can not and will not stretch this is a common fear that many sleevers have - but no - your tummy shouldn't stretch 85% of your tummy is gone forever!!! Yah!!!! you say you are not a grazer???thats great people will gain weignt if they eat their meal, extra extra high calories, then wait til tummy isn't full anymore, and will eat more - doing this during the day and or night just like pre WLS - take in too many calories - YOU WILL GAIN WEIGHT!!!! concentrate on getting ready for surgery, deal with your proper eating and drinking post WLS and continue with all the good things that will happen to you on this long wonderful journey through sleeveland preparing for a new healthier happier life main reason IMO to "ever" think about regaining - is to remind yourself not to overdue and go back to old habits good luck speedy recovery btw "This site is awesome & has answered alot of my questions/fears" you were totally right when you said the above we're all here for each other, we do have the right to state our opinions but............. since we're "staring" at each other through a computer, statements sometimes can be misunderstood -when no bad feelings or thoughts were intended give us another chance - we're all good eggs (some more cracked than others ) we don't bite (usually ) take care -
RoseNP Do I remember you??? how could i forget someone like you PM in the mail
