Little Green getting little(r)
ProudGrammy replied to Little Green's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hey bud Love your updates!!, keeps me busy off the streets and out of trouble!! i wish i had written a journal. Putting in all my NSV's would have been great. you are keeping great records. It keeps you busy, writing things down that you can look back on. Exciting things to remember, like when you had your first BM, when you passed gas!! Ahhhh, it's the little things. I see you are mending day to day, 15 lbs down!!! Holy Moly!! keep drinking and feeling better kathy -

Going to be sleeved while in college, then studying abroad... input/advice?!
ProudGrammy replied to brashleyy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@brashleyy alcohol, this is one of the many questions your doc needs to answer. I've heard 6 weeks, months, or even a year. as with any/all questions - different docs will give different responses. At the end of the day listen to only YOUR doc/NUT (and me too of course!) Recovery, Listen to your body as it will tell you as you are feeling better. You will have a few months under your belt - slow, and steady, Prague, here you come! You should do well. one final comment /suggestion - take a nice, cute, smart, witty THIN grammy to help you What time should I be ready? anxiously waiting to hear from you!! Have a great surgery, trip, school too. good luck your future tour guide kathy -
@Matt Z hey dude thanx for the info You learn something new every day 108 lbs down!! terrific!! kathy

NSAIDS are not allowed for me extra strength tylenol works "adequately" for me. what is CBD? inquiry minds want to know kathy

@VSGnewguy Whoopi, whoopi have you sent out your new address labels? hurry, mail before stamp price increases!! Onderland, Texas. keep up the good work kathy

@Briswife15 the sleeve is frowned upon if you have gerd. Strong chance your gerd will get worse - or you might develop gerd I also take a few important/necessary drugs. If i would take those drugs, they "might" not be as successful /absorption with the bypass, I know diabetes is helped by both WLS's. Caught between a rock and a hard place? gerd or malabsorption ?? but....covering my small asss to say, check w/NUT or doc good luck with surgery kathy
-
When i was sleeved 6+ years ago, all the info/stats weren't in on the sleeve. since i didn't have much/any gerd in my "past" life - surgeon said sleeve would be a good option for me. As others have said, bypass is the way to go if you have gerd/reflux problems. Knowledge is Power!! good luck kathy

@josephsmom eeeeek - 8 days and you are already thinking sleeve won't work for you!! It's a common phrase that "we are all different". Amount of weight we loose, how much and how fast. directions we get from our NUT/doc. Many OP say they have no/little hunger post op X amount of weeks, months. Even more than a year. Others, like you, remain hungry despite WLS. You are probably on all liquids. That's not filling!! Once you start mushy, soft, solid foods - your tummy will/should be satisfied. "It" does get better!!! - good luck bud kathy

@Richard Foor hey dude - i remember you. sorry you are having regain problems. sad you gained about 100 lbs back - good you have kept about 60 lbs off!! It's taken you about five (5 years) to get back on course. BUT it could have been longer. Fifteen lbs gone!! You are making your kids (and yourself) proud. Keep up the good work. I hope to see less and less of you. Newbie alert, newbie alert - you must remain diligent with your eating/drinking for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life. good luck kathy congrats

Gardein Meat-less
ProudGrammy replied to TakingABreak's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@AshAsh1 the above factors make Gardein look/sound very good. Especially - cholesterol free. bought the crabless cakes and beefless tips. Will try tonight - only concern, they emphasize sauce not included. Do you eat it dry, or do you need to add some type of ""healthy" sauce??? Inquiry minds want to know kathy -
First reflux episode 2.5 weeks post op
ProudGrammy replied to Taoz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Taoz hi newbie shout out to Australia!! Reflux is one of the possible worst side effects of the sleeve (or different WLS) i can count on one hand how many times i've experienced reflux in the past 6 years + since i was sleeved. i've been lucky. I take meds to prevent reflux, i will also sit up in bed (big cushion/pillow) to prop me op. I have "accidentally" eaten some chocolate before bed time. BIG no no!! Ask doc to prescribe something to take to avoid the reflux. Sorry you went through this experience. Hopefully, no more. Good luck newbie with your sleeve. kathy -
Welcome to our group! from this grammy to another grandma...... Bending, pulling, grabbing - don't overdue you should be ok. @Taoz correctly told you not to do any heavy lifting immediately PO. Take things slowly/gradually get back into your more active gardening routine. As with other activities - listen to your body. It will tell you how much you can/should do before stopping. Don't remember how long, but i didn't do the bending for my weeding for "awhile" i was too uncomfortable/physically bending etc until i lost a lot of weight. Now, joy oh joy - i weed all the time (no gardener here, brown thumb!!) LOL good luck with all the hoop jumping with insurance. you are aces in getting the sleeve. I love mine these past six+ years and still trudging along. happy gardening speedy recovery kathy

hi aussie welcome to our group. Been waiting for you!! i feel bad when i realize many newbies don't get proper directions/info from their NUT. Losing 26.4 lbs in 5 weeks is wonderful. You are definitely on the right track. i think 1/4 c of food is the correct amount to eat, for now. sorry you are still having trouble drinking. Hopefully this will improve as time passes. You must keep trying to drink - don't want to get dehydrated. i was hospitalized in need of rehydration. My "dip stick" was dry!! i was walking a few days PO. you need to get out their and move. At 5 weeks you should be able to start off with light exercises. Don't overdue. Careful about how much weight you lift. (for now). These are questions to ask you doc. Protein and Multi-vitamins are essential. Explore, and find some good/adequate tasting vitamins and protein drinks. you have been given some good example - snooop around for more too. They are out their. Good for you on reaching out to OP on this board. Peep will jump in with answers to your questions. give advise - give their experiences too. Good luck - you are a smart cookie having the sleeve - i know with time and help, you'll do great. kathy

Sleeve surgery and acid reflux, got worse or better?
ProudGrammy replied to Jenlo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
i was/am worried about developing acid reflux. I'm 6+ years sleeve, but if it can start at 3 years for you, maybe it could happen to me too? It hopefully/probably won't happen to me. I've experienced reflux on a rare occasion - terrible horrible burn/fire in throat. Wouldn't wish on worst enemy!! good luck - kathy -
What side do you sleep on?
ProudGrammy replied to laurileet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
first day home, i was uncomfortable sitting, yet alone laying down. i tried the first night to position myself on my side to sleep. No way jose' ! by the 3rd night i did sleep on my normal right side. wasn't terrific - but i did it. Things improved daily. One week PO i was sleeping like a baby. A "BIG" baby good luck kathy -
My surgery was a Life saver. Five years later and I’m still telling people about it. No meds or insulin in 5 years. This could be you too.
