Friend has CML- leukemia- can she get sleeve?
ProudGrammy replied to Marty McSkinnystein's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chronic myelogenous leukemia is cancer that starts inside bone marrow, the soft tissue inside bones that helps form blood cells. (Google) Marty sorry about your friends leukemia oncologist being on board with the surgery is great doc can speak on her behalf to insurance company for WLS approval her leukemia per say won't improve, but................ many other medical aspects will get better or disappear (diabetes, high blood pressure et al) her medical/mental well being will improve, feeling happier that she is not carrying extra weight/luggage she is lucky to have a friend like you watching out for her best interests i wish her well Marty 80 lb down, down, down the toilet - FLUSH!!!! you are doing wonderful with your weight loss keep up the good work kudos -
VivaDiva01 telling the doc about anti-depressants, per above - doesn't seem to have affected the "go ahead" on passing "shrink exam" for above people so.............tell away "they" want to basically know about your feelings toward food, handling the surgery, pre-op and post op i have seen a therapist for about 5 years - do you blame me after listening to you guys all day??? I chose NOT to mention on my psych appt the fact that i take cymbolta i was concerned about telling doc- just didn't want to chance any problems with getting the WLS but i obviously successfully came through shrinks Q & A my surgeon knew my medical history my therapist told me once.......... half the world sees a therapist - the other half should you'll do fine try not to stress yourself good luck

Melissa1234 slow down bud need to find my sunglasses your excitement is shining right through my computer screen actually, i just had to turn the volume down on my monitor!! sorry you had to go through a period of stress, feeling that the sleeve wasn't covered by your insurance yes, there are a lot of hoops to jump through before you can get your approval for WLS all the hoops are worth it!!!!! pre-op tests galore, yep we've all been there, done that this too shall pass you are on your way to a healthier, happier, longer life with the sleeve good luck

Can I sleep on my right side?
ProudGrammy replied to LynnD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LynnD I don't think it would hurt you to sleep on your side it does hurt physically - but i don't think it does any harm that being said...........to ease your mind - call doc to ask him if its ok to sleep on your side he can tell you if he has no concern with you laying on the incisions all my life, i never could/wanted to sleep on my back - very uncomfortable PO in the hospital - the beds are so "cozy"/small - that i could only sleep on my back it was "ok" cuz i was so tired and basically sleeping when i came home - didn't even attempt to sleep on back i slept on my right side as usual my first night home -incisions hurt alot the next night - the side/sleeping went better next nights continued to improve since you prefer sleeping on side - hope you get the go ahead it will slightly hurt for a while - but like everthing - early PO - "it" will improve good luck speedy recovery sweet dreams -

1stBabeBorn5th can't relate to great Scandal episode don't watch give me the "Good Wife" and i'm there congrats on being approved this is a momentous occassion!!!! this is a very important day today (yesterday) being approved..... i/we can all relate to your terrific feelings enjoy the next days, weeks til WLS continue to come to the boards, ask your questions there is a great book called "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" maybe try and follow some of the drinking rules don't drink with food - wait 45-60 minutes after you eat before you drink again - drink 64 oz liquid a day - just to name a few eat your food very slowly - thoroughly chewing a million times to "shreds" be excited, enjoy this time period before WLS soon enough - you will be starting the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life with WLS good luck take care -

What factors dictate "fast" and "slow" losers?
ProudGrammy replied to JessicaAnn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jessica i think thats why most of us had the sleeve (portion control, binging ) the sleeve will "assist" you in loosing the weight but it won't/doesn't work on its own once you are sleeved, on solids - you will feel the "restriction" that the sleeve gives you that will help your portion problem - you are supposed to measure food - and ONLY eat that amount as far as your binge eating - get a grip don't know what else to say - we all have to deal with that in our own way this is not a magic surgery you must follow all the "rules" with Water, Protein, eating slowly et al for the rest of your longer, healthier, happier life you are pre-op - try and practice some of those important water rules now drinking 64 oz water, not drinking with food/meals - waiting up to 1 hour after you eat before you drink again these are just some of the essential new rules you must follow getting an early start prior to surgery..... what do you have to loose?? good luck take care -
gmanbat i agree with Vicki proud of your wife, bragging how wonderful she looks!!!? thats so nice wifes pictures are amazing!!! the love i "hear" in your words, are beautiiful congrats on both of your weight losses!! continue to enjoy your wonderful new lives into the sunset corn, corn take care

Not sure how to feel
ProudGrammy replied to dfdscott's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
dfdscott glad you are not going to change your mind about having surgery - keep that positive mindset your determination is great - good for you!!!! having WLS is wonderful - you will feel so healthy and happy glad your parents and wife are finally trying to be on board the "thing" about "you can loose weight on your pre-op, so just do this on your own"......... if a person has never been in your/our shoes - they couldn't possibly understand how hard/impossible it is for "us" to keep the weight off we've all yo yo'd - lost. then regained we are abusing our body with all the fluctuations up and down with our weight when someone is "concerned" or comments in a negative way - try to ignore their thought thank them for their concern - but tell them you have made up your mind- end of sentence - then try and change the subject i know "its" easier said than done - give it a try though thats what i did with a few people - "they" still weren't happy - they might have "discussed" bad things behing my back - oh well but............i decided i had to do this for myself - didn't want to listen to any negative!! hope you have your DOS soon good luck speedy recovery good luck with surgery 110% speedy recovery -

Down 76...Only 166 MORE to go! Pics
ProudGrammy replied to deedeemuffin's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
deedeemuffin you said a mouthfull weight on and off easily - overnight???? in our dreams!!!! you are doing great!! i hope its ok to say this but................... when you are a little heavier, more weight to lose - it obviously takes longer to lose all the weight i have heard that you might initially lose weight a bit faster but then you come to a place where you lose at a regular pace/amount i always admire people like you that deal with this battle with more weight to lose like "them" you will be totally successful too after all, what do you have to loose? keep up the great work/job good luck congrats -
Chills562 i started taking the same dosage as you of biotin right after surgery (info from this board) my hairdresser noted that the top of my head/hair was thinning "alittle" i was lucky that i didn't really lose any substantial hair - globfulls in the hand/shower?? thank goodness, no nothing much - unfortunately i have VERY thin hair my daughter has lovely thick curly hair we want to trade places with each other isn't it funny how the grass is always greener??

Barisaxylady 100 lbs loss!!!!! best thing i've ever done for myself!!! "you" look great, inspiring, wonderful et al ya da ya da ya da!!! thats all i ever hear!!!! good reason, its alllll true gotcha did you really think i was "yelling"?? you have done terrific worried about maintaining et al??? (understandable, common concern) the day i/you/we stop worrying about eating/drinking properly IMO is the day we get in trouble!!! you just must keep doing what you have been doing being successful with your Water, Protein, eating slowly - you know the drill i'm sure that after all the hard work you've done these past 6 months - you are not gonna mess up now eating a "couple" of things you wouldn't normally eat, couple things not totally Kosher - welllll....on a vaca you have a "little" room to maybe "explore" - but do your best not to stray "too much" but i know you wouldn't dare overdue - you've come too far - and you are lookin' HOT!!! back from vaca, get totally back to normal - you'll be great!!! we are "told" how much money we will save on not eating out often but we are now spending our "savings" with shopping!!! oh well its a dirty job but...... have fun buying your swimming suits, other clothes for your great trip btw - if you have some extra space in your suitcase for a friend??? I don't take up much room congrats girlfriend
